    Konami are quite variable with their protection. M2 is about as good as GV. It stopped people swapping the cd's for a good while though, so it can't be that bad.

    CPS2 wasn't badly designed either. Some boards have died, but then alot have survived. I'd say the konami bubble memory games were worse, if you drop them then they die.

    How can you say any game with a "suicide battery" is not badly designed? I bet if you bought a $200 board and it died on you then you would think otherwise :)

    Well these boards were never designed to be used as home video games, so designed a board which was protected and would live longer then the life a general game in the arcades was probably seen as a good thing... it's a bit like buying a F1 car and complaining that the local garage won't service it.

    No it isnt.. Most arcades have a selection of old games, its not just home users who suffer from the problems of the CPS.

    I believe Capcom will still repair the boards. Which isn't a problem if it's making money. If it's not making money then it's not a problem.

    I think it's pretty logical for Capcom to do it, after all the hacked up bootlegs of street fighter 2.

    I don't blame them for a second for adding a security feature to their boards, I just think it could've been done better.

    Hopefully a day will come where you can phoenix any CPS 2 or 3 board.

    better = more expensive

    I think the phoenix roms for the cps2 are the worst thing that could have happened.

    cps3 is better off dead.

    Total Vice does have speakers in the guns, it surprised the crap out of me when I was playing a week or two ago in the local arcade. Different guns then Evil Night though :)

    It's unlikely but it is possible. Some systems will define a fixed area of the address space that corresponds to ram, no matter how much is actually installed. If you only install half the ram then often the same memory will appear twice in the address space. This makes it easier for software too, because you can put your stack at the same address no matter how much ram you have.

    However you could easily write something that assumes that the two addresses are the same. It might not be intentional either, it could be a bug.

    Or it could be something completely different. It could just be something else in the nvram chip it doesn't like.

    Anyway, I found the problem. 8Q, of course, refers to the BIOS rom, and Polystars is the only game that uses an older BIOS rom. That's where it fails. Probably easy to patch, but I wasn't able yet to find the checksum in the code.
    Yeah, It's more likely it needs the old bios rom to work. It might not just be a check, it might be something fundamental.

    hello everyone, I decided to take my evil night boards out for a spin haven't touched them in 5 months at least hooked up my jamma kit and cga conversion card and fired it up booted up like usual but this time it's in black and white?! i tried moving the pal and ntsc switch and a few of the dipswitches onboard, does anyone know the factory dipswitch settings like what positions are they supposed to be in for evil night. seeing as they're not in the manual I can not do a thing

    well I tried messing with the composite adapter, I don't know if it's even possible for the color to get messed up from the game motherboards? maybe? but I know the game definitely works it just pisses me off i finally get a light gun in the mail and the day i decide to try playing again black and white color!
