Your JAMMA connector should have been keyed if you don't know which side is which. Plugging in the connector the wrong way could damage your board. Ofcourse you could just trace back certain wires to figure out which pins are which. The easiest thing to do as I recall is check for which wires goto the power supply, and that side should be on the short piece of the connector. The longer piece is where player inputs and such should be.

It's the most surefire way, but I wouldn't say its the easiest by a long shot. Main processing still needs alot of work in how it handles dual cpus. The biggest hurdle would be the graphics chips which were completely proprietary asics, for which no real documentation exists unless it was recorded in the m2 dev kit manuals.
did anyone check further into the sdk dev manuals ?

All cd based konami boards have something which stops you from just swapping games. On systems where they sell upgrades then it's a dongle, but others have used values stored in the battery backed up ram.

It's alot easier to figure this stuff out in an emulator but it should be possible to disassemble the code. It's normally the game code that refuses to run, rather then the bios refusing to run the game code.
