    Proto Silent Hill?

Somebody is claiming to have an unreleased version of Silent Hill for PSX on eBay. I've never heard of such a thing, is it legit? Here's a link to a story about the auction. The auction link is contained within.

Hmm, I'm sceptical about this, I always thought that those Child creatures were in the US version and we in Australia got the Teddy Bears.

They do look different to the Mumblers in the NTSC version though don't they?

Hmm, it's not really Proto more like Uncensored or Un-Altered (Like the Ebay link claims), I wouldn't mind it but not for the insane price it is now.

Maybe someone decent will end up with it and will talk more on what's changed.

Didn't the preview version that amongst others came with the PAL release of Metal Gear Solid feature the opening scene to the game and a 'battle test' at the school?

The guy clearly says it's an original disc and that it's not the full version of the game..

    *boots up demo*

Okay, different opening quote before the opening FMV.
Some minor changes during the intro sequence up to you pick up the radio (where the trial ends)
Most noticable, "child like" demons instead of the ones in the final

And... let's see, "battle" brings us to the school, and yup, instead of the usual enemies, there's the 'child like' creatures instead.

Guess someone's gonna be very happy when they realize they've paid a fortune for what's most likely the very same demo of the game as the one that came with MGS (PAL) :p

hes kinda playing off peoples ignorance. i PMed him the night he posted the auction, and i asked him what the game id was. this was his response:

While I'd rather not disclose this, but seeings you ask, it obviously means something to you. The serial number is SLED-01735.

using google as my internet detective, it leads back to this cached google link

Released with European versions of Metal Gear Solid (SLES xxxxx xxxxxxx), along with a little poster. You play in the school, both normal and alternate versions. Tiny changes from the normal game.

also, when you google it, you get links to dead bitenova and emuparadise torrents for it.

this is the equivalent of ebaying the RE1 directors cut demo as an UNRELEASED version of resident evil 2, which is a half truth. yes, it was unreleased in the sense that the demo build was not part of the final release, but it was released in the sense that im looking at that particular demo right now as im typing this.

A fool and their money will soon be parted.

There is a Silent Hill "beta" or something floating around. I have it and played it extensively with a few friends and have found nothing obviously different. The info that came with it described differences from the European prespective with the censorship.

There are differences that are tangible right now. The file sizes and dates on the disk are different from the final US release that is available. One file considerably different. I don't recall the specifics. In one of the files there are a set of plain text viewable with a hex editor that points towards a debug set of info. Things like errors. I don't know how to hack any of it so there might be a debug menu hidden away for all I know.
