Extending the deadline, even if by only a month might be a good idea. Really hope this fundraiser comes through.
This goes back to the age old arguement of people thinking that everything must be released for FREE or it isn't in the interest of the 'community'.
I have given as much information as possible all the way through and am not trying to hide anything from anyone. I stated that the owner of cart 1 was taking a loss on his purchase price and that was when the fundraiser was $2k for 1 build, there is now a second build to factor in!
I haven't posted this anywhere else myself but I know other people have linked this on various sites.
I will look into a possible extension but I was thinking the addition of a second build would spark new interest and we could keep the same deadline.
A lot of people have said they will donate to the fundraiser in the last week but this isn't really giving us a true reflection of the funds at the present time.
If people do intend to donate and do have the funds available then I would suggest to get them in ASAP
I fully agree, a second build is a fabulous addition.
But it is after the holidays, times are tough etc. I'm sure there will be a flurry of donations near the end (definitely stick me down for $100 minimum) but we can't miss this opportunity lol.
Perhaps we could keep the original deadline for now (to encourage donations sooner rather than later), but with an option to extend it for a little if the target is close at the end of Feb (say 75% there)?
Anyway, thanks for this Kiff, regardless of the end result! You're a star and a real asset to this community!
I still haven't donated myself, still waiting on the money to come in :\
But what about rule 2 'goals must be met in a set period of time' and rule 3 'if the goal is not met, refunds must be given' which I think adds more weight to rule number 2?
I think the rules wont mean anything if you just keep extending the time period each time when a goal isn't met. This way, a fundraiser could go on forever and ever, so why have a rule to set a time period at all?
On the other hand, I'd like to see the deadline extended if it would result in the target being met. It's not as if the seller necessarily wants to keep extending the deadline either.
And what if people who donated dont want to wait longer without their money?
They donated under the assumption of game or refund by X
Quite interested in donating. Should have a nice amount to donate by mid Feb.
I understand that, thank you for clearing that up for me. The confusing part for me was "Offered at no extra cost" in the new updated first post. I assumed you got hold of that new cart without spending a penny, my mistake.
Well, donations seem to have ground to a halt, I was merely offering a possible solution to get the ball rolling again. I want to play this as much as the next person, and if this fundraiser isn't met I wouldn't like to see the game fade into obscurity for another 12 years, any playable build would be fantastic.
As far as I see it if there is no extension and refunds are issued, kiff is probably free to recreate a new fundraiser with a longer timelimit and people are free to put their points back in. Given PayPal fees it wouldn't be a good idea though as a buttload of money will just evaporate.
If an extension is granted, the best thing that can happen is those that want out get their money back.
I for one will be happy to throw in an extra few bucks given as there will be another build now but the wallet says no at the minute.
Gotta have to find another way to try to donate, but anyway, why we donīt ask to the donors if they can wait a little longer?
They retain the transaction fee/20p these days. So even to refund cost you money, but like you said it wouldn't apply if the money was gifted. Although keep in mind that not all countries have a gift option within Paypal; people in such countries will need to send the money as if it were to pay for an item. This means that for those outside Europe sending money to someone in the UK, there will be a fee of 4.9% the transaction amount plus the 20p. And the individual who processed the refund will never see that 20p again.
I have never seen them keep 20p?
Any refund I have done has always been the correct amount (Paypal fee + the extra from my balance).
Paypal amended their user agreement in the UK in September to include their transaction fee/20p retention, so any refunds issued since then should have had the fee deducted from the total balance after the refund. Did you issue these particular refunds before this time?
I think I have done 1 refund since then, didnt notice any fee.
But I will be sure to check it out next time, as thats a crappy move.... even ebay refund your final value fees on a refund.
Edit:
Their refund page states that the fee isn't refunded after 60 days. Less than 60 days works as I described.

Paypal, always trying to find out how hard they can push to make more millions...
Alright, calm down people. I just took the chance to let of some steam!
(Hey I can expect that for 100 $!)
If people are going to donate within the last week, then there might be a chance. I'm considering to add 300 $ in the next few days.
I would be very happy to see the stuff released, trust me. It is just that I have kind of lost my enthusiasm :(
Sent in $100.
This is great news that we now have two builds. hope we get some more donations now. :-)
