Mini-OPL(Open PS2 Loader), Launch PS2 Games directly from the OSD(menu) Update

Rating: 2 votes, 5.00 average.
you need to have either HDD-OSD(unmodified original, region-free patched or decrypted&atad patched) or PS-BBN(original or region-free patched) running on your Ps2,
you also need to be able to execute Ps2 homebrew.
i have included a region-free Mini-OPL at the bottom, just replace the one included in the KERMIT_OPL.RAR with the regionfree one and your good to go.
the region-free Mini-OPL works perfectly on my console(PAL 3/4), i cant confirm on other-region consoles, as i just have only one console :p.

Instructions:

1. install a game either via winhiip, kermit, hdlserv or any other software.

2.extract the RAR file "KERMIT_OPL.RAR" and copy the "kermit" folder to the root of your memory card.

3.browse to your memory card where you installed kermit and execute "KERMIT.ELF".

4.when kermit has started, go to "ODEM Manager" and press CIRCLE.

5.select a game from the list and press right, and scroll down to "install hdd-osd data" and hit CIRCLE, then confirm it with SQUARE, and your done.

6. reboot into HDD-OSD browser/PS-BBN game channel, and browse to your game icon and start it. :)

KERMIT_OPL.rar, the Mini-opl in this rar is only for SCPH-XXXX3/4 PS2 Models.

Region Free Mini-OPL, just replace HDDLOAD.KELF from the above rar file with this one, and it will work on any console.

credits goes to the guys who made mini-opl.

Hi! SCPH-39008-works well with region-free Mini-OPL,although some games (screen saver), significantly retarding.
Thanks to Richie and to all who participated.

i only compiled it, and made this tutorial :P
i'm not the original author from any of this software

yes, you can paste any memory card icon on the partition header.
but i belive you can replace the icon in the kermit folder on the memory card, i never treid it.

20 second for boot launchelf from osd... install cd version from winhiip,,, but the hdd bug can't boot from launchelf

if you want to launch "ule" from the hdd, you should consider installing it directly as bootable partition, that way you will still have HDD access in ule,
which would be blocked if you launch it through a cd/dvd-emulation software like OPL, even if its thorugh the osd.

then what does HDAdvance? it does not act as bbnav? so kermit don't create a bootable partition;;;; ok i follow your tuto again for app.

HDAdvance is also a CD/DVD emulation software, but uses usb instead of the internal hdd, i'm not sure if it blocks access to the usb ports for games.
kermit only injects a elf in the attribute area of a HDL partition.
BB-Nav is only a replacmeant for the HDD-OSD/hosdsys, it acts as the same thing.

for me, the above method works fine on Game Channel and HDD-OSD.

but keep in mind for bb-navi, you need the bb-navi mbr, or you wont be able to launch anything, not even disc's at ps2 boot up ;).
since the hdd-osd mbr acts differnt and makes the bb-navi useless. if you want to have both on the same hdd, just make sure you install the bb-navi mbr as stated on my other tutorial, and everything should work fine.

I have two HDDs one Sony BB-Navi(JP) and one Non-Sony BB-Navi(ENG)/OSD-HDD on it, the sony one I just tred and it works but I'll need to add a icon to it somehow. The Non-Sony does not work, well the mbr may not be the same but all of it works but this. http://www.pspx.ru/forum/showthread.php?t=101273 This is the link to Eng BB-Navi I used on my Non-Sony hdd if this helps, it hack so it work on non-sony hdds and no mod-chip needed. I'll try the mbr on your other tutorial for now, Thanks for the help.

Edit: I try the mbr on the Non-Sony HDD and it may or may not work but now it needs a mod-chip, the hack on it is now gone and I'll need to do it all over (I have no mod-chip for ATAD patching).

HDD_SNAPSHOT_20120722_225809.IMG ? I've been a tester for that one. It's a test dump which is not intended to end users and it's a bugpile. Primarily used for showing the *hum* POC.
I think the latest stable releases are :
    PSBBN030_A2_KHNHDD.IMG CRC:5E5E4C79
    PSBBN032_A2_KHNHDD.IMG CRC:AEFB47CD
English dump is PSBBN032_A2_ENG1_KHNHDD.IMG, CRC:65025AFA, and it includes a text file with proper credits to richi902 for his translation work on files.
Latest stable dump of the HDD-OSD is HDDOSD110U_A4_KHNHDD.IMG CRC:D5CDECFC.
Hacked discs are A2 for PSBBN 0.32 and A4 for the HDD-OSD. No changes since mid August because kHn got buttkicked by SCE for the *hum* POC. 0.30 has not yet been released as CD image. Neither HDD-OSD 1.00J and U. SUDC2 is supposedly in progress but I saw no movement :( .
    I didn't try the Mini-OPL but I guess it might work like magic with PSBBN 0.32 A2 and HDD-OSD 1.10U A4.

So the one I used is the old one, I'll try to find newer one or do you know how to get it? I'll love to try it out.

Edit: I can only fine this PSBBN032_A2_ENG1_KHNHDD.7z I'm not sure if this is it but I'm going to try it out.

PSBBN and HDD-OSD dumps are posted at psxplanet.ru. These are just custom dumps of PSBBN/HDD-OSD with or without preinstalled programs, for those who can't install PSBBN/HDD-OSD "normally" with the utility disc (some people still get a red sceen of death using hacked utility discs).
Hacked utility discs are on psxplanet.ru too.

I've downloaded it and it seems to be the good one (CRC does match). Hope it solves your problem.

Problem is solved, works on "HDD_SNAPSHOT_20120722_225809.IMG" and "PSBBN032_A2_KHNHDD.IMG" It was most likely corrupted data on my non-sony hdd. Thanks for the Help, richi902 and Segment_Fault.

Edit: Does someone know how you can add the "res" Folder and "jkt_001.png" for BB-Navi to the game partition? Like in a HEX Editor.

i'm looking for the same answer...
    Where are those coming from?
Are they hard coded into Kermit?
    And can they be changed?
Sorry for all questions, but I like my graphics to be nice...
    Edit:
Oh... those icon´s are hardcoded into the app.
