View Full Version : Acclaim's The Red Star

This was a title for the original xbox that apparently was canned (despite being completed) when Acclaim closed it's doors. I had the chance to play this game on an xbox demo disc within a store a long while ago and *really* enjoyed it. I was curious if there were any details regarding what actually happened to this game and the possibility of a revival.

Thanks in advance.

As far as i know it was completed and the pal version of it was dumped. A shame really i played it at a comic con awhile back and it seemed fantastic.

The demo I got to play at the Toys R Us kiosk was awesome. I was *very* excited for this. If the PAL version was dumped, possibly know where to get ahold of it (I've checked typical channels). I'd seriously be willing to pay full retail (hell I'll send a check to the developer if I do find it) just for the download of it. If anyone has the demo/kiosk dvd with this on it, I'd be willing to purchase that as well.

It got picked up by someone, i forget who. I expect it to be released at some point.

By saying you expect it to be released im presuming you mean retail, as the PAL dump is ntsc compatable.

It got picked up? Crazy. It's been literally off the radar for over a year now, aside from the occasional posting acknowledging the fact that no one knows where this title went.

Now that we've established that there is a dump of it, is anyone willing to share?

(to the mods: I know I'm new, however, please don't take this as soliciting pirated material... just really interested in a game that I would gladly purchase, if given the opportunity)

Sally

Actually, it got picked up a while ago i think. Either just before or just after acclaim went under.

I was very impressed with the game, especially considering it came from the dreaded Acclaim. If it ever does get released, I'll go out and pick up a copy.

I was never really impressed with it. ALthough I am not really into that style of fighting game.

I have the debug build so I know Accalim had it at least in that state for NTSC. Be interesting to see if anyone releases it. I was happy to see Combat Elite and Juiced get released.

I've never seen any confirmation other than what I got myself, so I'll just repeat it:

At San Diego Comic-Con last year, the team told me explicitly that the game had been picked up by a publisher, and would be released "soon." They refused to tell me who that publisher was, for obvious NDA reasons.

This was nearly a year ago now, so my personal assumption at this point is that the game isn't coming out.

I don't want to throw this too off-topic, but does anyone know if Combat Elite has any wierd popup issues? My Acclaim review copy has some pretty bad popup (for example, sometimes it takes up to three seconds for the terrain to load up).

Probably, its the same thing when they had intial d for ps2 at the tokyopop booth, i asked the guy if sega was planing on bring it to the us and he said yea but hey hadn't decided on a date. I remember before xbox came out they had it for demo at a sobe booth, and the reps were telling everyone it will be able to play dreamcast games. Point being is info at times there can be dodgy or not firm.

Yeah, a guy at work had this game (the Red Star) going at work, the build looked pretty complete to me, I'd say 98% or so (there were still some little issues in the menus and such.) Pretty good game. He alluded to it being availible online, have to ask him where exactly next time I see him.

its around 1.15gb.. dunno how complete it is.. it was doing the rounds about a year ago (title screen says (c) 2004 acclaim / 2000 microsoft). its like a 3d side scrolling shooter, with top down shooter elements in the boss stages (feels almost like this game should have been on the dreamcast)..

thats it... fairly complete, as someone else said a few things are buggy, also parts of the game are HARD AS HELL

I don't know if they were promos, mockups, whatnot, but at the acclaim auction
there was a locked security room with glass walls. Inside the room, against a glass wall
were about 150 shrinkwrapped copies of red star for xbox in green xbox cases.

ha, I was considering bidding on the distribution rights to TRS just so that I could try it out... Bids for their individual properties were starting at something nominal like $1k USD.

Wonder if any of those copies hit ebay??

I know what you mean. Their are several unreleased games that used to be all bt sites, but just can't be found now (though some can still be found on DC++).

Anyhow, here's that nfo file you wanted (if its too hard to understand with this type, past it in notepad):

The Red Star is a U.S. comic created by Archangel Studios. The art style
is groundbreaking and the scope and writing is cutting-edge. Conceived and
drawn by Christian Gossett, The Red Star continues to rocket forwards in
its success.
Set around three key main characters, The Red Star tells the tale of an
alternate Russia, the URRS, where massive technology and futuristic weapons
are wielded by its army, The Red Fleet. An additional twist is that magic
exists in this world and The Red Fleet employs Sorcerers who can cast protokols
(The Red Star term for spells).
The comic book story focuses on Maya Antares, Sorceress-General for The Red Fleet
as she searches for her husband, Marcus, also a soldier in The Red Fleet who was
lost in a disastrous URRS defeat battle some 10 years before.
Along her journey she is accompanied by her bodyguard, Kyuzo, and she meets Makita,
a Nogorkan rebel, who delivers shocking news of Marcus's survival. Now declared
rebels against their own state and having taken command of The Red Fleet's flag ship,
the heroes are ready to journey into the unknown in a desperate bid to rescue Marcus
and bring down the tyrannical, and near immortal, dictator of the URRS. It is here
that the player starts their quest...

I'm not sure on the bumping rules on this forum, but Got an update on the game.

Take 2 has picked up the game, and it was slated for an August rls of this year. Then it was pushed back to Sept. Now it's been delayed again to March 2nd of 07'. It will be hitting the PS2, instead of Xbox.

I have a copy of the game, and it's tough as hell. :banghead:

Good news for all the Kiwis out there - the Red Star game has been slated for a March 2nd, 2007 NZ release date according to Gamewizz, with a RRP of NZ$49.95.

Of course, this date is subject to change as always, but fingers crossed!

And yes, the game is tough as nails. My friend and I managed to play through a chunk of the game. He was as impressed with it as I was.

I'm pretty darn sure that Take Two didn't pick up the game, they might have signed on to distribute the title in select territories but XS Games bought the title from the Acclaim sale and are finishing it off and publishing it themselves.

I found yesterday a copy of the game on blackcats game tracker, and apparently, the version they offert is gold I think, because it even includes a full translation (all texts are in french, since my xbox is configured on this language). But the executable have been compiled like a debug because I successed to connect my debug xbox live account.
