Does anybody know why I get the following error message when trying to load up CD/DVD Recording Unit Controller 2.0??
It says "ASPI manager loading failed".:noooo:
Is this happening because I am missing a certain driver or something or do I have an incompatible CD/DVD RW drive...??
Stumped on this. I tried installing it twice and it still says it.
The CD/DVD Gen 2.00 program opens fine. I have put in all my files etc but when it goes to save the .iml and .ims temporary files I get the above mentioned error. That's when it opens the Recording unit controller program right?

Hmmm - Just read this in the requirements bit? What the heck is this?
32-bit ASPI Manager
ASPI32 for Windows must be active. In Windows 2000/XP, you will need to install the Manager.
Is this my problem and if so any ideas where I get it?

you need waspi.dll. You can get the .dll file off Nero,if you are running WindowsXP.The link to get the ASPI driver is at http://www.Nero.com (http://FCx%28this.href%29;%5C%22) in the support section under ASPI drivers. After you download the wnaspi32.dll.You have to place the .dll file in your Cd/Dvd Rom Gen folder.
EDIT: Even then i can't get it to spit out a working iso file... :crying:

Well, ASPI is installed ok BUT...
When i go to open the recording controller thing now it says "The recording unit is not connected. initialization failed"
Is my CD-ROM burner incompatible. I just thought in this day and age pretty much any would work with it.....
It's not in the list of "approved burners......" :-(

Can I connect any of these burners to a laptop??
If not I may need to resurrect the old Windows 98SE PC from the loft , install XP on it and record off that. Got the SCSI adapter and driver Sony recommend but I can't find the approved CD Rom generator (Sony or Plexmaster one...).....

You should get two errors, "The recording unit is not connected" and "Initialization has failed". If you click ok on both of those you should get the recoding unit controller app. Hit file, export image. That'll save the image to your HD. The .000 file is an iso file, so you should rename it and burn it. Unfortunately it isn't master patched, and when i try to use looser's patcher against it, the files go corupt...
Unless your burner is on the aproved list, you won't be able to burn to it from the sony gen. you'll have to export the iso and use different burning software.

There were only 2 approved burners that the software supported, and both were difficult and expensive to get hold of, even for developers.
I think one was the SONY CDU900i or something. The other may be the 480 or something but it's been a long time since I used one.

If you are trying to make PS2 compliant ISO images, you should use cdgenps2 v3 instead of the sony cd/dvd software, it's way easier to use it....

I'm trying to create QA Tool (v2.4). Can it be done using cdgenPS2 (v3) then??

Would the Sony CDW900E model work or is that just a PSX CD burner?

THe 9000e will not work. The burners that work are cdu921 series (CDU-920s, CDU-924s, CDU-948s) and DVD Pioneer dvr-s201 (authoring drive), dvr-a03/103, dvr-a04/104, dvr-a05/105. There is a patch available for use with other Pionner Burners and NEC Burners.
If interested I am going to selling my two burners (CDU-948s + DVR-103) with dev software within the next week or two most probably on ebay.....BTW: The only nice thing about CD-DVDGen is its there official tool and a nice all in one disc creation/burning app. It really makes no diffrence if you create the disc using this app or another as long as it follows the standards of a PS2 disc.....

The Pioneer A07/107 will also work. Instead of going record, go to File, Export iml file then save it. Download DVD IML2ISO TOOL and convert the iml to an iso then burn away.

QA Tool is CD format but the only form I have it in is (.ccz) the CD/DVD Rom generator format. You have to make the disc yourself from the .ccz file which is why I need the official burner - unless there is a CD version of IML2ISO......?
Anything else out there that can get my iml image burnt onto CD-ROM and boot on a TEST station?
there are two iml2iso programs:
- the old iml2iso.exe, which is executed from the dos-prompt, is only for cds. if you need it, just tell me.
- the newer DVD IML2ISO is for dvds. it should also work for cds. but I have never tested it.

MDMX - if you could send me the CD version (the DOS one) that would be really cool. When I run the DVD IML2ISO.exe file I select the .iml file that CD/DVD gen created for me and when I click on "Start" it says:
"Error!!!!!!! This is not DVD version of iml file"
I'll try the CD one and see if that works - can you email it to me please. I've PM'd you. Did the patched HDD disc work btw?
oh sorry, I was wrong. DVD IML2ISO.exe seems to work only for dvds :(
btw I would prefer cdgenps2 v3 too.

I just found another program converting iml to iso, don't know if it works but you can try.

Try that, but really your best option is to buy one of the supported burners and go from there. If you only have a laptop to use you could use and IDE to USB adapter and run the drive off that.

I assume you're talking about booting a burned game on an unmodified retail console?
Is it possible? Yes and no. In theory it could be done. Is anyone going to tell you how to do it, no....
