Motor City Online was an MMO racing game made by EA, that was unfortunatly shut down a few years back. It started life has Need for Speed: Motor City. Basically, has anybody been fortunate enough to come into contact with old betas of it, apart from the one that can be found online easily enough? Some versions of it included offline mode, which is one of the things id be after. So yea, does anyone have betas, alphas, or otherwise of the game? ;)

I remember buying that game not knowing it was mmo, and then returning it back to the store the same day after learning i would have to pay a monthly fee.

That was a mistake, the game was awesome. Easily one of the best racing games ever.

Indeed, it was Street Rod with modern graphics and online. A pitty it was too soon for that kind of idea to work.

It wasnt too soon, it was that no one knew about the game. For whatever reason, EA didnt use any of its advertising power at all, so the max amount that played it was only 50k or something small like that

Id be willing to pay or trade quite a bit for some single player demo of this....Anyone with leads or otherwise (Cmon all you peeps working at the magazine companies with old PC betas laying around) would be appreciated.

So have there been any emulated servers since the game shut down? With this being a a EA game i doubt it.

Nope, I need my MCO fix though lol. I figure if anyone has any leads on old old beta versions with the SP still intact in some form, itd be good (or LAN play, or something where I can race lol).

I got into the MMO scene way too late to play this game. I would be interested in this as well, especially any homebrew servers that are up. I would have loved to try it out.

No homebrew servers, i dont think anyone grabbed enough infos from the servers while they were up, if they tried at all

This game wasn't balanced. All new players where grieved by "veteran leets", which resulted in a lot of people not staying in. As a result - fewer and fewer subscriptions and inevitable death.

All the MMOs are like that really. It was a highly competitive game. And of course a newbie starting car isnt going to be able to race a 100k car, what do you expect? Its a motorhead game

Well, somehow WoW and GW does manage to match players with similar levels, so it's interesting. I still say it's flawed MMO design. If you're selling a service (and that's what MMO is all about), you should catter to all audiences, not select "uber" few. If you do, gosh surprise! No money in your coffers... Too bad so sad.

To rephrase my earlier comment, I'll refer to Spork: "The needs of the many outweight the needs of the few"

Its not an RPG thouh, it doesnt have to abide by all the rules that WoW and GW set out years after the game was closed. Its a racing game. Better car wins. Thats just how it is. You dont have to race with people the first bits of the game, just do a sponsered race...

And this thread is really about NFS:MC more then MCO -_-
