View Full Version : Why the N64 have so few protos of unreleased games ?

Hello

i'm searching for some N64 protos of unreleased games for a while now and i must say that it seems that such protos looks very hard to get (which is not surprising) but moreover just to know about their existence .... :crying:

it seems that in fact N64 protos of unreleased games are extremely rare :banghead:

i know about Toon Panic, Echo Delta , a text adventure games in japanese (the missing community dump :-( ), Frogger 2 and ODT and 2 others i can't tell about them but that is all :(

Only 7 unreleased game is discovered, which is very surprising knowing the fact that so much N64 games was cancelled.

May be it's due to the fact that the beta cards was writable but it seems a bit weird for me :oh:

Why NES have so much interesting protos and not my poor N64 ?????????????? :rambo:

Probably beccause the flash carts for development were reusable.

That is exactly it. Why bother wasting a flash cart on a game that has been cancelled? Those were quite expensive in the day so devs would waste no time in reflashing a cart with a new build or a new game.

Your missing doubutsu banchou from the list as well. It was later released on gamcube as cubivore in the US.

A few years back a fully working proto was up on yahoo auctions.

Yep, what he said. It didn't make any sense to keep the game on the cart after it was canceled because they were expensive. If they ever really wanted to release it, they still had the source code and could put it back on a cart. When looking for proto N64 games, look for the computers, not the carts.

Unfortunately 11 times out of 10 the hard drives get wiped.

From what i found out from the auction at the time is the game was pretty much complete.

Sadly i was unable to bid on it, good job really as it went for a fortune

But well i should be happy to have one of them ...

I'm surprised that Acclaim Sports Soccer didn't pop up when Acclaim wound up ...
