Do you think they will take bids of like $20 for the really crappy titles like Fur Fighters and Mary-Kate and Ashley?
the current bids make me believe that $5000 is the minimum bid for any title.

I thought that might be the case, shame, would be nice to say you own the publishing rights to something that should be a crime against humanity, like M-K & A.

This had been posted, but it is updated now. It has the dates to go view the files (yesterday and today)
If I lived nearby, I'd at least go check out the files.

That'd be kinda fun. But like you guys said, it appears 5,000 is the minimum. Maybe they'll take less if a bunch don't sell??

5K seems to be the minimum but it seems that they're willing to let you bid on entire series for the minimum as well.

Buy some of the decent ones and remarket them to countries in Central/South America, Indonesia, etc. You will most likely recuperate your money from those markets.

Thats kind of like translating Star wars to Chinese, and then translating it back to English. Oh wait, thats happened before.
It would be so hilariously bad, I bet.

I wouldn't mind owning Populous. I have five grand in the bank. But as I understand it these are only the rights to publish the game on the original system it came out on, right? It's not like I could buy that game, then make a translation for the 360 and publish it again, right? Becasue if you could do that, I could see some investment opportunity here.

I actually called these people the last time this was posted.
The secretary said you could bid whatever you wanted but the guy I had to talk to wasn't in.
Or something. They didn't sound very organized, there is probably a real opportunity here.

You know, now that I think about it, I want to own two. One just for camp value (Street Figther: The Game The Movie The Game) and another, I don't care what, just so I can send cease and decist letters to ROM sites for fun. "Please don't distribute Mary Kate and Ashley: Ultimate Slutting Challenge, I own it."

wouldnt owning the rights to any of these games only be good if for some odd reason someone decided they wanted to release an updated version of the game you own?how does that work with movie lisenced things as well?

I say we should pull a ton of money together and buy a couple of games.

Lol its when you look at the list of games in that auction, you kinda realise why they went bankrupt.

A good number of those franchises would be neat, but it looks like its just the rights to publish certain games on their original platform. For instance 'Ecco the Dolphin' is a property of Sega, not Acclaim, yet its up their for sale.

The more I look at this topic the more I think, potential potential potential.
I have a few questions that I will need to find out.
Like, is the buyer given the source code for the game or just an image?
Can you port the game to another platform?
If you can, then porting some of those 2d and even 3d titles to a cellular phone platform is the way to go. Cell phone games are bringing in bank for those companies.

You don't get/own anything except the rights to publish *that* game, if you wanted to port the game you would have to go into a deal with the license/copyright/IP owner, and most likely have to pay the full developmental cost. You only stand to make any money by re-selling the rights, or if someone decides they want to re-release the game on the console it was originally on.
