I'm tying to make a list of unreleased games for the Sega Dreamcast. Can anyone think of some, including the company that was making the game, and maybe some pics (Unwatermarked :icon_bigg)?

I have a list of unreleased in Japan games for the DC (and a lot of other systems)
http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~japangaming/unreleased.php?system=dreamcast
Note, these are games that were announced/planned for Japan, and didn't come out. There's likely some games that did come out in other regions there. Izumo is on the list, and needs to be taken off. :)

Thanks for that list! :icon_bigg I know there's more out there!
...all those people with those unreleased games on their dc dev boxes :fresh:, at least pics would be fine.

There was some realy good games for the console under development...atleast, i think so...
Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings (becouse of the VGA support, this game wouldn't be any problem!)

Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko (i loved Enter the Gecko...)
Half-Life for Dreamcast (everyone that have tried the leaked version knows that this wasn't bad..!)
Half-Life Online
The House of the Dead 3
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 2
Max Payne
Outcast
Propeller Arena Online: Aviation Battle Championship (Just FUN!)
Sim City 3000 (becouse of the VGA box, this wouldn't been any problem either!)

Shienryu 2?
Oh, boy, I think I'm going to cry.
It would have been great to see those other games that went to XBox. Dreamcast could have somehow made it. Dammit, it's interesting and depressive.

I would've killed for a copy of Deus Ex or System Shock 2 on the Dreamcast, but from what I hear neither got past the planning stages. There's very little information on System Shock 2 for the Dreamcast, and even less for Deus Ex.

Well, I fear Deus Ex on DC would be a lot more limited than the PS2 version, considering the DC has half the RAM and a lot less storage (check how big the PC version's saves are). Yeah, I know half this board thinks the DC is more powerful, but in this case it clearly is not.
Half the ram indeed, yet double the VRAM, it could in theory look about the same.

Oh, I know. I love Deus Ex in every shape and form, though (with the big exception of the sequel...), so obviously when I found out there was a DC version planned I became a little curious.
System Shock 2, on the other hand, I think could have made it. The levels were much more cramped than Deus Ex's, and it was much less graphic intensive.

I disagree. VRAM can't store huge levels. Plus, the PS2 can also store textures in RAM.

If you want to play Shienryu 2 there is a version of what it should have been like on the ps2 game "simple 2000 series 37, double shienryu". Called shienryu explosion. Its quite nice though a bit easy, worth a play, though no where as good as the original.
Agartha missing from the list.

I started to develop a list of games right after SEGA announcing the production stop of the Dreamcast, back in 2001. I got pics, videos and other stuff from a lot of sites, its worth a check. BTW, if someone got any others pics/vids, just contact me :-)

I would find that very hard to believe, as WipeOut was bought up by Sony along with Psynosis years before the Dreamcast launch. Sure Sony allowed some ports at first, but I think they wouldn't have liked one of their best in-house franchises to be released on Dreamcast, now would they?
And Outcast was never released on Dreamcast, only on pc.
Outcast 2 was in the works for pc and PlayStation 2, but then they went bust... Belgium's development pride gone... :(
Well we still have Larian Studio's (Divine Divinity), but not like they will ever make something like Outcast 1 and 2...

Now that you mention it, I think someone here did get a GD-R beta though I can't remember who at the moment.
I wonder how far along in development it was? Judging from the advertisements, it did appear to be nearing completion.

I don't think he ever got the GD-R to boot, as he said it was heavily scratched. As long as the surface is okay, it should be usable in one way or another.

According to a recent interview with Toshihiro Nagoshi (to be found at Kikizo, if I remember correctly), there has never been a third Daytona USA, though I guess some people may have mistaken the 2001 edition for such a game prior to its release - shouldn't this be removed from the list? Also, while I'm not sure if anything was every programmed on the Dreamcast, elements (presumably team-related gameplay) from the concept known back in 2000 as "Sonic & Knuckles RPG" were supposedly carried over to Sonic Heroes. Finally, I should mention as well that Virtua Fighter 4 was in preliminary stages of R&D. Producer Yu Suzuki said that AM2 would only go further with a conversion if the hardware could reproduce the arcade game's visuals without significant compromise. Taking into consideration the extra processing speed and memory of the NAOMI2 platform over a stock Dreamcast, it's not too surprising that VF4 never appeared on the console. Still, even a hardcore cynic like myself cannot deny that they did a fantastic job with the PlayStation 2 edition, which was almost flawless in my opinion!
2 years later...
Anyone knows something about "Planet of the Apes"? any betas/protos?

There was a series of auctions on ebay a bit back where I bought some of the remaining inventory from Bleem. I bought some prototype controller adapters they planned to market and I think these papers and that slide came from the same place.
I was wondering who finally got ahold of all the good stuff, I was going to bid on the adapters but my power died the day the auction ended.

WipEout had long since become a Sony exclusive when the Dreamcast launched, so I think we can safely cross that one from the list. I don't remember Time Crisis 2 being linked to the Dreamcast before now, although it's quite a possibility - maybe Namco could even have given the conversion a major graphical overhaul, as it did with such great effect previously on Soul Calibur? As for NAOMI2 ports, was Super Monkey Ball ever officially announced? I've already discussed the non-existence of a third Daytona USA (this probably stems from confusion with the 2001 update) and Virtua Fighter 4, plus a theory linking the "Sonic & Knuckles RPG" concept to what later became Sonic Heroes following Sega's move into multiplatform development as a third party company, but how come nobody has mentioned Shenmue III yet?

Time Crisis II was announced late 1998 before the launch of the console, at the same time as Splatterhouse 4-ever. Only announced in Japan and nothing was ever seen of either of these two Dreamcast games.
I once played a futuristic racer made by Cryo, was some early prototype. Can't remember of the name, but it wasn't Megarace.

Just wondering, is there a beta/alpha/whatever of Colin McRae Rally 2.0 around?
I just know that there is a copy in the hands of sega.
Anthaemia.
06-08-2007, 06:25 AM
Colin McRae Rally 2.0 probably isn't directly in the hands of Sega, as it was being developed by Codemasters - presumably they have the only copies now, if such prototypes still exist. Also, were images from Time Crisis 2 on the Dreamcast really available to the public? I'd only heard briefly about this one, never mind actually getting to see it, though it does seem a little odd that I guessed Namco would go for an all-out visual upgrade as opposed to a straight port. Then again, that was also what they did with Soul Calibur (which appears to have been in development around the same time frame), so maybe I did read about this way back and have just forgotten it since?
exsegadev
06-08-2007, 07:10 AM
Yes, Colin McRae 2.0 exists in the hands of some collectors. It's locked with a VMU dongle so it wont play as and ISO.
Anthaemia.
06-08-2007, 07:25 AM
I'm pleased to hear another Dreamcast prototype exists, even if it is kind of restricted by the required VMU - does anybody know if this method was used for any other games? To be fair, it wasn't too much of a surprise to hear that Colin McRae Rally 2.0 is out there in the hands of collectors as it featured at E3 one year. Hopefully over time more cancelled games that were shown in a similar way might leak or at least come onto the market as well...

WipEout had long since become a Sony exclusive when the Dreamcast launched...
People keep saying this but WipEout and 2097 both featured on the saturn.
At what stage did the franchise become exclusive to sony?
Became part of Sony in about 93' I think...
Sony exclusivity started as soon as the studio was rebranded, which I think, was 2001.
Anthaemia.
06-11-2007, 10:57 AM
The exact point WipEout became a Sony exclusive is probably more likely around the time the third game in this series was being created, and definitely much earlier than its fourth installment.
Would make sense, which would make it 99', as WipEout64 came out in 98', Wip3out was released in 99', on PS1 only.

No it wasn't P.O.D.. It was a genuine Cryo game. I remember that they gave it to us for burning on a GD-ROM for them, for some reason they did not have a GD Burner, or maybe there was another reason I don't know.

Ball Breakers & ECCO II aren't on there.
In Utero likely had internal builds of 'Jekyll & Hide' on Dreamcast (same tech as Evil Twin, so it was portable) but it was unfinished and never worked on (as a DC port) since there was no release plan for this version.

Hot Springs Mahjong 2 is, IIRC, 'Guru Guru Onsen 2' < released in Japan but i'm not 100% sure to be honest.
It's interesting to note that some of these have since surfaced in one way or another, although they still remain 'unofficially' released.
PBA Bowling
Heroes of M and M 3
Take the Bullet
Test Drive Cycles
Flinstones V Rock Vegas
Propeller Arena
Worms Pinball
Half Life
Shanghai Dynasty (not on the list above...someone was selling an English language (?) GDR here in the marketplace recently - If it IS in English then it also remains unreleased, as the only other version was released in Japan only)
Ecco 2 - As mentioned by Mark, this has recently appeared in an eBay auction.
Jekyll and Hyde - mentioned above also.
Castlevania Resurrection - One of the graphics artists did confirm playable GDR's existed.
Dee Dee Planet - Videos of it running on a commercial DC unit exist but, sadly, nothing else.
Can anyone here shed more light on any other games from the list above that are known to exist on GDR's or Devkits (as Ecco 2 was found)?

It would be so cool to be able to play Castlevania Resurrection. The game just looks so cool in some of the preview videos.

From this thread:
http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13239
According to the seller, he was asked by Appaloosa, the new studio, to take the auction down, as well as the YouTube videos of the game running.
The quoted text in the link below was very similar to the email I received from the eBay seller: stingerhu.

Hi,
I need to say you, please remove the ECCO II DC movies from
your page. The newly formed studio from Appaloosa noticed these
videos and make a warning to remove the files.
Sorry about that but they have the published rights for ecco series.
This procedure is not simple easy.
Pending the negotiations (for the bankcrupty) members got a free hand but at the finish they withdrewed all of earlier arrangement. That's why the second katana auction is closed and removed eariler.
I'm pleased you once more: remove the videos & screens - some of my friends is working still there and I wouldn't troubles to them.
Thank you.

Some of the games on that list were pretty far in development I think when they got cancelled because I have a magazine published by sega that shows these games and has pics some even were to be released 1999 or early 2000
Here are the pics
Baldur's Gatehttp://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p136/Rixels/baldursgate.jpg
Castlevania Resurrection http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p136/Rixels/castlevania004.jpg
Renegade Racershttp://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p136/Rixels/Renegaderacers.jpg
Star Trek New Worldhttp://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p136/Rixels/startreknewworlds.jpg
Next was this game called Xleration ever released I've never seen it online so I assume it was cancelled http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p136/Rixels/xleration005.jpg
Finally there was a picture from the Sonic Adventure Article that shows sonic and tails during their first assault on the Egg carrier but it uses the saturn character models for sonic and tails

I'll post a complete table of contents from the book later

Xleration was released;

I would do anything for Deus Ex yo be on the Dreamcast! Although I guess that it would be a bad idea due to the Dreamcast limited resources.
