View Full Version : The X360 final MSRP (price tag)

Due to a leak in Walmarts super-duper intelligence dept. (you know, the one next to the donuts) now we know the official and definitive MSRP of the X360 and its games.
The console/unit/system/dildo will retail at 299 with 99 cents (w00t! 1tz n0t 300 bucks!!1) wich left me with a happy sensation in my pants (my pockets to be precise you pervs) :-D
Now the games: ugly. PerfectDarkZero and PGR3 already have a 59.99 price tag, wich confirms that the games in this generation will be more expensive. This left my GF heartbroken, since my johnshon can no longer stand to such outrage :smt009
SO, you better start making some extra money, specially the euro guys out there, since there the games are sure to go as high as 70euros each :smt1069

Nothing new there. Sony have been selling PS2 games for stupid rip off prices in Japan for a while now :(

Well, then i think they`ll go even higher, specially with the PS3

1) Walmart and Intelligence cannot coexist in the same sentence. I still shop there, though. Go figure.
2) 299 is quite a fair price, compared to other consoles I dare not mention. I still cannot afford even a DS, though. Still, it's nice to know it's not going to require for me to sell my organs or get a third job and stop eating for a couple months.
3) Your Johnson issue might also be due to the radiation. Play games from afar and use the Internet for less time.
4) I'm interested in getting an X360... this feels weird. 299 might be affordable if I start saving now. Still, though, I haven't heard a price tag (or nothing much else) for Revolution...

Games are generally £40 over here in expensive shops, around 30-35 in cheaper places. So we're paying over $60 - Hopefully they won't raise the prices any more :no
MS has generally been reasonably decent in terms of releases in PAL land, so hopefully They won't raise prices of games. And maybe, just maybe for the first time for a console launch they can ditch the shitty $300=£300 conversion games companies seem to love....

$299 is what I paid for my original Xbox back on launch day 2001. A fair price and one that I won't have any issue paying if I decided to be a first-in-line guy.

Ha, $59.99 is still less than we pay in the UK. When new systems come out games are always more expensive. It's simply a way of showing the consumer than "Hey, these new games are better".

If thats a marketing strategy, then i think a better name would be "bent over hoe, and dont cry" :smt043

Call me crazy, but I kind of think the $59.99 suggested retail price of new games might be good for the industry in the long run.
I'll certainly be more careful about which games I buy as well as putting more time into the games that I buy. While inexpensive games are nice, sometimes I find myself buying 3 or 4 cheap titles, playing them once and never touching them again.

So why doesn't everyone wait six months till the price drops, or at least some decent games come out? By then the first batch of releases will be available secondhand. No point spending $££$lots just to have it sat there for six months before the good games start rolling out (unless you want a cheap BluRay DVD). Or just to play your Xbox games on a 360.
I got stung by the Xbox price drop. Nothing I could do about it, and I ended up with 2 games I didn't really want and a crap pad. I know it's cool to have stuff the day it comes out and all, but when we're talking saving a good $100/£65 just by waiting and carrying on playing the current gen it seems to make sense to wait.

Of course. I generally follow this logic as it is.
But there was something just utterly cool about being one of the first to play Halo and PGR on Nov 15, 2001 before millions of others....particularly since the systems were in short supply up through Christmas of that year.

Sure, we may get the cheapest pricing, but we always get the shaft when it comes to special editions/omake. You could always import...
I'm also curious, has anyone else preordered yet? I have 3 :D

The launch games look excellent for the machine. I don't see a reason not to buy it at launch, unless they don't appeal to you.

360 doesn't need another Halo, it needs Micro$oft to redefine their software strategy from that of the original - or they'll fail in the Japanese market all over again.
No title will be the next Halo - but we might have many system sellers - as long as there are enough, it's safe. And it looks like they might be succesful this time, at least softwarewise.

I know what you mean...
I bought my PS2 like... 3 months after it came out in Mexico - and it cost a fortune, but I still had some money from selling a lot of paintings in an art exhibition.
That, I think, was the closest I've ever been to buying "at launch". My brother did have a 1979 or something Atari VCS, but it already was the 4-switch.
I got my C64 in 1988, NES in 1990, Snes in 1993, PSX in 1997, and Dreamcast in 2001 - so you could say I'm not precisely an early adopter.
In the year after I finally had enough free time after graduating, I did get a Virtual Boy, N64, another Snes, an Intellivision, an Atari 2600, a 7800 and... my PS2 died.
But I'm divagating.
I meant to say that buying at launch is not something I really like to do unless I'm very sure and I also have the money, which is very rare.
I'm still going to try and get the X360 and Revolution as soon as I can. Nowhere close to launch, but soon.

IDK when the GC came out, like Nov. 01? Well I got it for my birthday that year (Dec 15th). PS2 I don't remember, I just know I got it at least 2 months after Devil May Cry came out, maybe more. I got Xbox during Christmas time in 02-03 whenever the JSRF/Sega GT 2002 pack came out. I suck at remembering.

Judging from the number of preorders and that fact that so many places have stopped taking preorders, yeah, I'm hoping for an eBay dash :D
If nothing else, I can always sell them for face value or export one of them.

Don't know if this is how he feels, but for me it was basically Goldeneye with a new skin. Same game but it looks different and has a different story.

Well, yeah, I suppose so, but then again, it was a psuedo sequel for 007...I thought that by the time it had come out, me and my friends already played the hell out of 007, and PD just wasn't different enough, even with all the modes and crap, so we eventually moved on to other 4 player games (plus PD ran crappy). However, I totally loved single player, I thought it had enough new stuff, I loved the reload animations, and it was pretty fun to play through what with all the cussing and stuff like that..........................at least, I liked it. I just hope this 360 one won't be balls or like Halo 2's single player.

It is not Goldeneye with a new skin. The game is a farce compared to Goldeneye. An utter joke. The true testament to this? My friends never ever wanted to play PD in multiplayer. Why? Because it was crap. I was not motivated to go past the 4th or 5th level in single player. Why? Because I could barely see anything due to the blurry graphics, chop o licious frame rate, and the game simply wasn't fun. Joanna Dark isn't cool, the characters aren't cool, they aren't anywhere near Bond, and the game, as a whole, was a huge letdown.
PhreQuencYViii
08-04-2005, 08:12 PM
It's pretty hard to go back and play either of those games sadly.....there too choppy and hard to control when your used to newer controllers and consoles, but after a little while you get back into 30fps N64 mode. :D

ive just skimmed over this board....cuz i ts late and plus i have to go work....but ill throw in my to cents
59.99 for an x360 game.....really it isnt all that bad
i can remember when the ps2 shipped and even xbox to some degree, alot of the games were selling for more than 49.99, but as soon as the hype dropped and the second generation games rolled out...the prices dropped.
also,...remember the 16 bit rpg days...when a good rpg went for 70 bucks
and the n64...the games for that were rarely under 55 dollars
so i think we shouldnt be bitching about this, really its not that bad
at least we arent paying 200-300 dollars per game like the neo-geo*
*that will come with the ps4

i liked perfect dark alot, and i played the multiplayer to death. Yeah, it have crappy frame rates, but you just can't say it's a bad game, imo. The single player was more intersting and less repeatitive than goldeneye's single player. It wasn't just ''Destroy this'' ''take that'' ''Defeat him'' the guns where great and the gameplay too. it felt less ''cheap-shot'' than golden eye, the replay value was also higher, if you tried the game on a higher level in goldeneye, enemies where always as dumb, but just more ridiculously resistant to guns, in infinite number, and could still kill you after you pressed the pause button.
i don't say golden eye is a bad game, not at all, i just feel that perfect dark is way under-rated.
as for pd0, i think it will suck.
PhreQuencYViii
08-05-2005, 10:19 PM
Lmao I remember the best thing ever was in Goldeneye, I shot an enemy in the head and he grabbed his foot, then shot another in the foot and he grabbed his crotch lolololo.
Yeah PD0, I'm hoping it'll be as good or better then PD, but to me the charactars and things are looking a little unapealing.....but who knows.

also,...remember the 16 bit rpg days...when a good rpg went for 70 bucks
Yea i remember, but that was cuz ROM carts were way too expensive at the time, and a 32Mb cart like the one in SSF2 was too expensive to make, let alone the RPgs, some of em were 64Mbs
Now the problem its diferent, cuz in this new generation the production costs are said to go up a 40%. Think that, between the 16bits and the 32bits the increase was a mere 3%, and sometimes zero.
Lets say the resistance is futile :smt071
