View Full Version : Who wants to start over with the boards?

We have around 1000 0 and 1 posters from eons ago, and I would like to have more board options like skins and have the cool option of rooms, again. I for one, wouldnt care if all my posts were deleted to start anew.

Anyone with me?

EDIT: This was going to be a poll, but I pressed wrong button.

Just say yes or no.

There would be an advantage to having complete control over the forums again for ASSEMbler, but the question is, does he really have the time/desire to start from scratch again?

Time wise it would cost too much

I don't think it would be a good idea to start afresh. I was amazed by the results when people typed certain words in google & found references to either my site or this forum.

It would be nice if this place gets a new makeover...

I think it's too rash to just start over from scratch. I don't know how long it took to make this iteration, and I really like it a lot.
A reorganization would be very hard, as well. I'd say let's stick with what Assembler is doing to change the structure, and let us, as well, keep civility and quality, as a pledge to ourselves and the community.
Then let's see what happens, with time.

IMO it would also be good for a clean wipe with a new php forum (without CJPC admin) and a return to the classic red/black theme but who knows if it will happen. I couldn't really give 2 shits about my post count going back to 0, but maybe an invisible post count but the rank still goes up after posts (noob twinkie -> active member etc) would be good too.

i'm maybe a bit off-topic, ignorant, or maybe i shouldn't even ask, but what's the story about cjpc?

oh, i see.

well, i don't care about my post count and all, but i care about everyone's post. i mean, i like searching through the archives and all to see if i missed something, for my knowledge or just to read the good posts and threads again.

Yeah, that's the point. As long as the posts of the past remain there to be read, it's okay either way, count or no count. But they should be there to be read and consulted, as we've had very cool discussions with lots of great info and humour.

I just don't really see the point of changing the forum or resetting it, as I think it's very okay the way it is right now, as long as we all pledge civility and quality in our posts. I'm sure another overhaul would be way too much work, as we're still in a way getting used to this one.

I agree. There is some interesting stuff that has been discussed over the years, and it would be a great loss to delete everything - especially stuff like the SNES CD-ROM thread.

I don't care about the post counts or anything - I don't get some forumers' comptetiveness with how many posts they can make.

Is it possible to make it so accounts are "pruned" if they have been inactive for a certain length of time - say 3 months?

Zilog's Idea sounds very reasonable. The auto-pruning will help, I think. Three months sounds reasonable as well.

Really, because he is still active on another forum...

So, you're going to fill us in....right?

I don't know if that's a good idea. I wouldn't want a replay of what happened with the Neo-Geo forums.:no

The forum wars, duh!

Yeah, pruning accounts would be good, although 6 months would be a better time limit (Since many people are busy for various reasons and cannot post all the time). However, it would be a waste to lose a good majority of the better topics on the forum that have taken some time to build up.

agree more with the 6 month limit than the 3 one.

would you really erase, say, retro account because he didn't posted for a while now?
i think members with a good number of post should be protected from this.

That is also a good idea. What would the ammount of post have to be, though? 100? 200? 500?

Cahaz has said it.

I say after a certain amount of posts, your account becomes impervious to pruning. Otherwise, if you go MIA more than 6 months, you're gone. You can re-register anyway, if you ever come back.

What were the "forum wars"? Is it off topic to ask? Are these the same as the "Zealot Wars" I've seen mentioned here as well? If not, what were those?

AWS - why not direct a PM to ASSEMbler and tell him where he can find CJPC? That way it's all kept safe - he'll know what to do about it and we don't have to know where, thus minimizing the potential for conflict.
I'm not pressuring you to do it, don't get me wrong - but if you want to, that's the safer way to do it, at least in my opinion.

Edit - I'd say somewhere between 300 and 500 posts would be a good choice.

And a nice word it is. If you see any way I can help, though, don't hesitate to ask. Good luck.

And..."Sending" guys to "cause trouble" at a forum... Isn't that sort of... dumb? It's not like crashing a party or sending people with aluminium bats to a crowded bar...

It basically shows they have nothing better to do. Talking about their one console must have gotten boring by now.

aaah... so that gay sex image poster was sent from the neo geo forums? talk about stupidity and immaturity.

From what I saw, he spams up their boards, too.

That's what I pretty much had in mind, to just let ASSEMbler know so he could deal with it and that way the rest of the board does not get involved and we don't have another "forum war".
