Yep, it is official. Famitsu had a article on it:

If anyone can translate French or Japanese, that would be helpful

What system? If it's a not next gen system they have to have gone back to using prerendered backgrounds.

Is that supposed to be realtime? If so im quite impressed (although they need to fix the guys hand, and the shadows need to be smoothed out a bit in order to match the quality of the characters themselfs).

Now that is impressive stuff !! I sure hope the XBOX 360 lincense deal that was talked about is true !! That way it may stand a chance in surviving in Japan and make it worth my while to get one with Bio Hazard 5 !! Why not the PS3 you say? Because I like the Dev comunity and we all know what twats Sony are for putting the damppers on that plus not to mention their poor build quality :p

he he translated

The Famitsu magazine announces in its number of this week the development of the play Resident Evil 5 for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. Although the first information seems confused, Resident Evil 5 would be under development under the supervision of Jun Takeuchi (Resident Evil, Resident Evil 2) and would use the system set up under Resident Evil 4. To also note that the character present on the images would not be other than Chris. Capcom does not have for the moment not brought more precision on the date of exit of its play.

From that brilliant translation, it looks as if Chris Redfield will be making a return to the Biohazard series in its fourth sequel, which seems to follow the same new visual style as its predecessor. Also, the console exclusivity idea seems to be no longer employed at Capcom, though I was always under the impression that the first two Resident Evil games were produced by Shinji Mikami and Hideki Kamiya (well, the latter was responsible for the "1.5" concept prior to its remaking under the former's direction), unless Jun Takeuchi has taken over from Mikami - wasn't he supposed to be quitting after the last installment, or am I just getting totally confused with Hideo Kojima? Either way, I'll be looking forward to Resident Evil 5... and the ever-slimming chance of Biohazard 2 Prototype being released in our lifetime!

Shinji Mikami stepped down as a manager of Production Studio 4 in 2003, after the commercial failure of PN03, he was replaced by Noritaka Funamizu. Then later, Mikami left Capcom R&D4 after the production of RE4 was completed, and he joined Clover Studio.

Clover Studio is quite fond of Nintendo, a lot of Capcom's best talent sits there, so who knows what we'll see from them. ;)

They will still have games exclusive to Sony such as Devil may Cry 4 and Onimusha and other games, Capcom are Sony whores, not that there is anything wrong with that, it's just the way it is, Biohazard has seriously wetn down in poularity in recent years, BH4 has made some ground on recapturing the fanbase but not as much as they would have liked, this is why they are employing a cross platform strategy with the new game's.

You all realize that we will never play anything that closely resembles this game. It will be scrapped along with a few other builds and the final product will be totally different.

If Capcom were loyal to anyone it would be Sega and Sega only. Capcom stayed with both the Saturn and Dreamcast until the very end. They listened to their fans and brought us what we wanted (mostly)

As a hidden unlockable, you'll be able to play through Resident Evil 1.5 and the few incarnations of 3.5. Oh, the Gameboy version is unlockable, too ;).

They were exclusive, but they had to make their 'Capcom 5' multiplatform because of financial problems. It didn't quite help with VJ and Killer 7 though...

Game developers are like mercenaries. They will work for anyone if the price is right. If Sony were willing to fork over enough cash they could get Halo 3 or Zelda and vice versa. It's all about money.

There's a movie leaked of RE5! Capcom want all big sites to remove it from there site because it was the movie for the TGS2005.

July 26, 2005 - Citing an official press document from Sony's PlayStation Meeting 2005, Capcom asked Internet publications to remove any sign of movies or stills taken from the [url="http://ps3.ign.com/objects/734/734381.html"]Resident Evil 5 (http://servedby.advertising.com/click/site=0000683409/mnum=0000268354/genr=1/tkdt=B0P0R1T0/cstr=30916192=_42e908e9,1728746896,683409^268354_/bnum=30916192) trailer. According to a company official, the trailer was never to be filmed in the first place and will be aired officially in the near future. No real window of time was given, however.

Those who were lucky enough to catch the wildly popular Japanese trailer were treated to a pretty impressive vision of what the future of Resident Evil looks like. A lone soldier finds himself in a desert town, quite similar to the scenes from Somalia featured in Black Hawk Down. The wavy distortion and haze of the hot climate is a continuing theme. As he searches the city he is startled by a large flock of black birds. The trailer then cuts to a team of undead-like creatures staggering under the bright mid-day sun; soon after, the creatures shadows paint nearby walls, showing they are now running. Soon they close in on the lead character, he spins around to greet them with his sleek, modern pistol and the trailer abruptly ends with the teaser "Biohazard" (known as Resident Evil to the rest of the world.

Be sure to check the official screenshots for scenes from the trailer, but it looks like we'll be waiting -- very impatiently, we might add -- for the official release of the trailer. We speculate this will come before or at the time of the Tokyo Game Show 2005, which takes place in mid-September. Stay tuned.
