Just like the Xbox linked to SEGA originally, look's like the 360 is doing the same...

wouldnt suprise me, segas had sorta a deal with microsoft since the dreamcast inclusion of windows ce dev enviorment, plus i belive the leaked e3 video had half those games pretty much coming to x-box 360. What was funny was before x-box came out they had it demoed at comic con and one of the reps there said it could play dreamcast games.

I remember hearing stories about ms working with sega to make the xbox compatible with dc games. Theirs probably (?) no truth to it, but its fun to think that somewhere out their is an xbox proto that plays dc games.
Man, Sega should have teamed with Nintendo instead of MS:smt022.
Why? Other then them both being known as companies from the 'good old days', what benefit would their have been in sega teaming up with its former rival who in itself was in decline from a market share perspective?
Because Sega's games sold very poorly on the original Xbox, Nintendo's core userbase seem to appreciate the type of games Sega develop.

Sega have worked together with Nintendo to an extent anyway - look at F-Zero GX, which was made by Amusement Vision.

Indeed, I've spoken about this before as I have Hardware thats related to this:

Not true, SEGA are very happy with sales figures on Xbox.
They are only happy because of the amount of money Microsoft offered on a contractual basis.
The sales of Gunvalkyrie, HOTD3, Outrun 2, PD Orta were all atrocious, Its almost not worth them developing original titles for the system, Luckily a few were Chihiro ports.

Well, now that's interesting stuff.
First sega had control but some microsoft influence.
Then microsoft had control, with some sega software
then there's Chihiro, which is like the "Super Dreamcast" that's discussed in the Dreamcast2 topic - but is really an Xbox
I just have to see how much dreamcastosity the 360 has. If it's more similar to the DC than the original big black box, it would be one hell of a cool machine, at least softwarewise.
Boy, that's exciting.

if i could afford it i would buy a Chihiro and use it as a dreamcast to play the DC games, since that would be in my mind fucking awesome :-D (sorry i like to dream :-) )

Nah, Chihiro is just an Xbox with upgradable RAM module and a GD-Rom drive. It's a standard .xbe file that's contained on the GD disk.

wasnt there an rumor that some team let the Chihiro games run on an modded Xbox?
StarWolf

Indeed, apparently Chihiro games that only require 64mb will run fine on an Xbox, just need to put the .xbe (extracted from the GD via a DC) onto disk/HDD. I'm sure that any Chihiro games requiring 128mb will run fine on a debug/128 mb modded Xbox.

Wasnt this Crazy taxi 3 that started that?
Might of as well just stuck in a debug xbox with some higher quality parts and made a mint profit :-) Or made it dead cheap and got loads of arcade games on it!

Dude, you just gave me a seriously sick and very icky, dirty mental image, and now I'm gonna have to go wash myself.
:no It sucks to have such a vivid imagination.... *shudders.
But going back on topic -
The Chihiro does have GD-Rom hardware, but Xbox does not. I wonder if the Xbox could have initially been planned to have GDs and DVD-size GDs. The dreamcast compatibility would have made me buy one in a flash.

A GD drive, thats the relation between Xbox and Dreamcast ?
Dude, if the X had a SH6 or a VR4 maybe, but its almost completely different.
Obviosly, it would be a different thing if the team that designed the black belt also had desinged the Xbox or the X360

If SEGA was really on the Xbox is weird that they didnt merge with MS, let alone include their name on the console.

It could use famicom disks for all that matters, gd-rom is just a storage format that can be adapted to anything.

...I happen to run a couple of Prototype Xbox motherboards that aren't marked MS, BUT do have the SEGA Arcade Harness Sockets fitted!

You know, it wouldnt sound so creepy if you were a girl :D
Anyways, SEGA arcade sockets? unbeliable. Maybe the xbox was a prototype for a future high-end arcade board (model4 anyone?) and MS bough it when Naomi made into the arcades.
BTW, what did you do to get a Xbox proto?

These are pre-release Xbox protos, yes? So why is there a heatsink over the Nvidia GPU chip, as opposed to a fan which is on all 1.0s? They didn't swap to a GPU heatsink till version 1.1+

...Because originally it was thought (theoretically) that the Xbox GPU would overheat so when the first Retail model was released they took no chances and stuck a fan on 'just in case'. (the last thing you want is loads of warranty claims on the launch of a new console for the sake of a few $)
...You have to remember that the Proto boards had very little 'real life' testing time allocated (literally not much more than a few weeks) so fitting a fan was an easy 'belt and braces' type fix, as dev/retail hours built up the fan was ditched with sure fire data and confidence.

...Look at the gap between the system fan and the CPU heatsink, can you see a black, 2 row, mono-block connector, partly covered by the HDD power supply cable?

this topic is interesting to me. and on the subject of m$ and sega connections, i thought i read somewhere a long while back that sega influenced or possibly even designed the controller s for m$. to me, i can clearly see a resemblence between that controller and the dc version. four face buttons with the same colour scheme just rearranged differently. L and R analog triggers. analog stick to the right with a D-pad below it. so, you can see the similarities. the controller s looks like a beefed up and redesigned version of the dc controller with added buttons (black/white/back) and of course and extra D-pad.
can anyone confirm or deny my theory?...:)

One of the first things the gaming press mentioned during the unveiling of the Xbox back in 2000 was the fact that the controllers resembled those of the DC in terms of layout (and the addition of an extra analog stick). Given that controller designs and layouts aren't vastly different from one another (barring the bizarre designs that come out of Nintendo's R&D labs), I'd say that they did this somewhat intentionally to differentiate themselves from SOny's controllers and to give the DC owners a comfortable controller to start off with when the Xbox was released.
