AREA!! (bet you uk people were thinking pub :smt019 )

This weekend i am going to charge up the digi camera and take some pictures of my local area and host them somewhere and post them in this topic, im sure it would be a great for the members to see what type of area's we all live in, and not some glossy holiday brouchure style pictures that are mocked up to look good when in fact they are building sites :smt027

So whip out your camera and start snapping pics of your local area (maybe some examples of game shops in your local areas too) go on its luvverly sunny whether make the most of it :smt040

lol I remember, we had a chat about this on the IRC ages ago and I made some pics for Johnny which I never sent... but they have some use now :smt040

My digicam didnt have enough juice left to make more than 1 pic so I'll see if I can post some more tomorrow.

To start, here's a pic from my neighbourhood taken from a plane:
http://home.tiscali.nl/~antipasta/area/air.jpg

Here's a pic I just took from my window:

Our house (with "comfortable" Mazda 626):

And then another one from further away:

Anti, looks like you live in a very nice area. Lucky you :smt023

I went out to the shops today so I decided to take a few snaps of the local area for this thred :smt023

Five minutes from my house on foot is the main shopping area for the small town (village) that I live in. Take a look.

OK, it doesn't look much but here's what you can see when you get there.

A very rare photo of actual insides of a Japanese Game Center. THese places don't allow photos to be taken at all. I took loads today because the only staff there this morning were all women :smt023 Still had to do an under cover operation though :smt043

There will be more photos of inside Sega World but you'll have to wait for the feature on my site before you can see them.

Also near my home are a few old style Japanese houses.

Everyone lives in some really neat looking areas. Paulo, your college looks really nice, and Anti, I must say if all of the Netherlands look like your area, then I'm moving there! Yakumo's stomping ground looked for a while like it could be a city in Anerica until the Japanese signs started being visible. I guess I expected more tall buildings tho.. maybe it's on account of all the movies and such being set in big places like Tokyo or Kyouto.. :smt043

I'll drag the trusty POS Palm camera to school with me tomorrow, get some shots of my locale. :smt023

I had class most of today, so I wasn't able to get out and about town, but I got a few pics of the college and where I live.

This is the printmaking lab at Southern Oregon University, located in scenic Ashland, Oregon. This is where the majority of my time at school is spent working on projects - I put in 4.5 hours today screwing up what had been a nice print run... :smt011
http://www.sou.edu/~stlouisc/Locale/Printlab.jpg

This is the Marion Ady art building in the art complex at the school, it is where my printmaking class is, and where I'll be spending the majority of the rest of my time at college.
http://www.sou.edu/~stlouisc/Locale/MAdy.jpg

And here are the apartments, or as my roommate calls them, Felony Inn. This isn't nessicarily a BAD place, but it's low rent housing, so we get all sorts of crackpots, people I that swear have to be convicted rapists, and folks who aren't altogether there. That and college students. A little dumpy, but not a bad place to live.
http://www.sou.edu/~stlouisc/Locale/Felonyinn.jpg

Yes, my room is right on the highway. For the most part, this isn't too bad, but the bane of my existance are the assholes that like to pretend they are street racers with their souped up import cars with the goddamn noisy muffelers on them. If there wasn't the screen on my window, I'd keep a stack of rocks ready to lob out at those bastards and see if I couldn't crack a windshield or two. Nothing better than a guy in a Honda Civic going roaring by at 2am in the morning...
http://www.sou.edu/~stlouisc/Locale/room.jpg

This is the view from the kitchen window (the one to the right of my room in the previous pic) looking across the road. A bit depressing, waking up every morning and looking from my apartment over to those nice townhouses..
http://www.sou.edu/~stlouisc/Locale/Townhouses.jpg

And this is our godawful swimming pool. I forgot to mention that our managers are complete idiots that worry more about working other jobs than taking care of the property they are supposed to be in charge of. As a result, we get stuff like this. Nobody believes me about the Fishmen.
http://www.sou.edu/~stlouisc/Locale/Pool.jpg

Tomorrow, I'll try to get some shots of downtown, it's really beautiful there. I live on what you could call the dumpy end of town, if there is such a thing in this place.

madhatter256

You can get rid of those fishmen by just whipping them Richard Belmont style. :smt040

Went biking yesterday evening so I figured I might as well take a few pics:
(most were taken while riding a bicycle so they're a bit blurry)

Some more of my village:

The beloved dumpster where I found my MegaCD, PP1292 and loads of my PC spare parts:

Breukelen's "famous" Chinese-style motel, with a traditional windmill in the front:

Some fields out of town, beyond lies the black market, source of all things dodgy, perverted and/or CD-i related:
http://home.tiscali.nl/~antipasta/area/polder1.jpg

Finally, one I particularly like, took it a few months ago when I got lost in the middle of nowhere but happened to have my cam on me :smt043 :

I wish I had a camera to take some pictures from where I live. Unfortunately I only have a cell phone's camera that can only take small blurry pictures

I specially liked AntiPasta's and jollyrogerdev's pictures.

I'll try to get some pictures up of Palo Alto later. Not really much to look at here...kinda dull actually, unless you have a car and can go elsewhere in the Bay Area.

GSL, Where in Ashland is the dumpy end? I go there for at least a week each year with my family for the Shakespeare festival. It's a pretty cool place to hang around. Biking there around Mt. Ashland is awesome. Are there any good gamestores near the downtown area?
