With the good comes the bad. I figured the Your best game trade / unbelievable deal stories here thread needed a Yang to it's Yin.

For me I have to that come to mind. One time at Kay Bee toys I missed out eight copies of Snatcher sitting brand new in the closeout bin for around $5.00 or $10.00 dollars. Another was when I had the chance to buy twenty copies of Panzer Dragoon Saga at $19.00 dollars each at a local KMart. Both times I had enough money on me to do it. If only I could have forseen Ebay.

for me it's missing out on a boxed, new, sealed 3DO Blaster for approx. 12e. I didnt even have a clue what it was, I thought it was a 3D accelerator of some sorts (sue me, I was 12 years old or something :p) but I didnt have enough cash on me and I couldnt persuade my brother to buy it :(

Furthermore, when I just bought my Saturn I was so stupid to shell out 30e for a boxed copy of Virtual On.
Some years ago I bought a Megadrive2 + 2 pads+ one game for 20e, but then the seller let me have his NES + 2 pads + zapper + game for 0.30e so that wasnt such a bad deal :p

Or ordering Street Fighter Alpha 3 (GBA) for 13 quid in the UK because I couldnt find it in Holland, a week after I got it its in budget bins everywhere for 15e

Hmm, let's see:

Buying a Super 32X of Evil-Bay from England. It was described as complete, but after receiving the package, it was beat up and missing it's original power supply. (The pics looked good :-[)

Sending back a broken MGD2 w/PCE attachment, with out insurance or tracking. :-( At the time (a few years ago) I paid $250, all down the drain. All gone.....

I haven't made many mistakes, but a few it too many.

Also trading 2 Magic Knight Rayearth's to J&L [I will hold back my comments :-)] for $20 each, when I could have easily sold them on Evil-Bay for $40+.

Oh well, live and learn......Or in my case, just live. :-|

A shop near me thought the Neo Geo Pocket would be the next big thing and had loads of systems and games available.

Just before the store got sold off all the games were sold very cheaply (even the PS2 stuff which was pretty new at the time) I remember multiples of Pocket Reversi being there for £5 and a host of other games, unfortunately I thought little of it at the time :(

I purchased a prototype Master System out of eBay, October 1999.
The seller said he appreciated our work at SMS Power, and offered to pay shipping. He sent it uninsured via surface mail. Never arrived.

My worst nightmare.
It makes me want to cry.

I bought an MSX games I REALLY wanted new sealed for $299 only to see it 4 years later for $80.

And I paid $500 for my neo mahjong controller about 6 years ago
before they found a huge warehouse of them.

well you should know J&L is a bunch of rip-offs... even De Platenkoning in Amsterdam is cheaper (Dutchies will comprehend the graveness of this comment :p)

Anyway, now we're talking about never-arriving parcels, Trigga 007 once sent me a bunch of good games (JP Samba de Amigo (DC), PAL Sega Ages (Sat), KoF95 (PAL SaT) etc but they never arrived :Hangman:

Fortunately they cost me nothing but the whole affair awakaned a permanent hate for the British mail system in me :snipe:

I got lucky one time, actually, very nearly blowing my money on an eBay auction gone mad.
It was for WipeOut XL (Japanese version of 2097) for the Saturn... something I had been looking for... and this other guy and I ended up engaging in a bidding war that drove the price up to $156, which was my final bid near the end of the auction... I regretted placing that bid rather immediately and already accepted my fate.... when he topped me one last time and won the auction at $158. I was relieved but still disappointed to not have gotten the game.
Later, I got Mark from markinjapan.com to dig me up a copy of the game and he sold it to me for $60 including shipping. Woohooo! :smt040

Seems like most of my "bad deals" are things that I didn't get because I didn't have the disposable cash at the time as well. The one that upsets me most is that I once could have bought a complete in box Turbo Duo for $85, but I was flat-ass broke at the time, and of course, by the time I had the cash it was gone . :smt022

If only I could have forseen Ebay.

Heh, the Kaybee Toys bin story is all-too familiar for me! I too saw tons of copies of Rise of the Dragon and Snatcher for sale for the ridiculous sum of $4.99. Of course, I was only in high school back then and funds were lacking, so I passed.

I still remember having the option to buy Panzer Saga at Toys R Us when it was released, but I couldn't justify paying $49.99 for it since the Saturn was all but dead. "I'll just get it in 3 weeks" I thought, figuring that it would be clearance priced in no time at all. Sadly, all copies of it and HOTD and Burning Rangers were never seen in that store again.

And then there was the time in 1999 when EB Games actually sold IMPORT Saturn titles in their stores here in the USA a few months before the DC was due out. Among the games they offered were Radiant Silvergun for $59.99 and Metal Slug 1 (complete) for the same price. Brand new and in multiple stores too! Perhaps it was due to the lack of new Saturn (or Sega product in general) from late 1998 to 1999 before the DC launched. Again, I passed and am now kicking myself for doing so.

I remember when Babbages/EB Games had the import Saturn games. All they had that I remember was Xmen vs Street Fighter. If they had Radiant Silvergun then that's another thing I need to kick myself for not getting. They also imported Pal copies of Shenmue II for the Dreamcast. I wonder if they were given permission by Sega to do imports for a while since they're not your normal small chain?
