by the way, how difficult is to find action figures, anime osv and videogames ost in japan? are they sold everywere or just in few places?

were can i find kyo kusanagi's glove for example (i'm worried of stealing it from him ;) ) and such crazy things?

are there any fun and understandable game that i should buy because it'll never reach europe or america?

A lot of Japanese Anime toys are sent to America with english written on them as well as japanese. You might find some rare, obscure stuff, though.

You can buy anime goods, game OSTs, hentai stuff in any big city. There isn't any good place here in Shimonoseki but in the next city, Kokura they have one place that has loads of CDs, cells, comics, books etc. In Hakata (1 hour away by train) they have 3 shops plus the famous (and over priced) Mandrake (sp?) where the staff are all in cosplay !!! :smt082

Mandarake have an online shop with an English section plus you can find info on where the shops are. Just check out http://www.mandarake.co.jp/ and select one of the 5 languages you want to view :) The Japanese section is of course the best with the most information.

Mandarake is nuts... they've got a few shops in Tokyo. One in Shibuya... on like B4 or something...where all Cosplay people should be. :)

and i was wondering, how much would i pay for a digital camera in japan? i'm still trying to figure out since i don't know if i should by it before leaving of as soon as i arrive in japan....

Japan is undoubtedly Saturn paradise, yes. Though I had some trouble finding units (as opposed to games, which are everywhere), I managed to buy some boxed white saturns for 3000 yen apiece in Nishi-Funabashi, outside of Tokyo - though getting them in Akihabara should be no problem. I also found a Hard-Off* carrying loose units as cheap as 500 yen.
As for games, the uber-common ones can be found everywhere for as low as 50 yen for VF2, though I recommend specialized gamestores for the better titles, and Trader in Akihabara, which unlike everyone tells you, is not that expensive - SoukyuGurentai complete for 1700 yen, for instance :D

*: Hard-Off is the best example of something game-related that can be found only in Japan. I can give you directions if you want, though you have to go outside of Tokyo. However, it can be combined with a trib to Ohara beach, which is quite worth it.

seems really nice. there's no hard off in tokyo? or any at kyoto? these are my 2 sure destinations so far (with short trips to nikko and kamakura...) and taking a detour only for getting to the hard off....

well they're usually outside of the city center... and my points was, you don't have to take a detour specifically for the Hard-Off as it's halfway between Tokyo and Ohara, which has a beach supposedly better than any in Tokyo.

oh , and i was wondering, what obscure, fun and not text intensive japanes game should i buy for saturn, psx and psx2? i mean strange shmups, beat'emup, puzzle games etc?
something i can't find here :)

I think they're open until 8 in the evening, 7 days a week. Here's how you get there:

-Go to Chiba station (pretty big, at the Eastern edge of Tokyo I think - trains go from Tokyo and Akihabara, I think you need the Sobu line)

-If you want to go to the beach first, take the Soboto Rapid line and get off at Ohara (I think it's the end station anyway), the beach isn't very hard to find though it's a 15 minute walk

-If you want to go to Hard-Off, take the Soboto Local line (it stops at more stations) and get off at.... errrr.... dammit, I forgot :smt009
It's between Oami and Mobara, so after you pass Oami look to the right, the Hard-Off isn't that hard to spot (pretty much next to the track), and after you pass the Hard-Off get off at the first station and walk back. Of course, if you're doing this on the way back, reverse the directions - i.e. look left between Mobara and Oami. I'll try to remember the station name.
