Dodge Grand Caravan, baby!! :smt043 I know it's not the most glamorous of cars, but it was an old hand-me-down from my parents for free, and as it seats 6 people aside from myself, it's a great car for tooling around town with friends. Unfortunately, being about 8 years old and having close to 300,000 miles on it, it's use is currently limited to trips for groceries and other short-distance trips where a good amount of cargo is involved. I'm currently in the market for something a little newer to me, with a lot less miles, and super-cheap, but I can't really afford ANYTHING right now. :smt022

Did anyone see TOP GEAR on Sunday....where they hypnotised Richard Hammond (he`s a 911 fan and presenter of this programme).
Chucked him in a peddle car...advised it was his and was brand new......got him to make the sounds...then Jeremy Clarkeson (main presenter of show) to drive at him in another pedal car and hit the 911
He was so distressed.....even asked him to stop the camera`s as he was so upset

I dont have my license yet (will get it soon) so right now I drive in my driving school's Kia Mentor... and every once in a while (at night for instance) my parents let me drive their Mazda 626.
Nothing flashy those two, but I hope to drive a DeLorean or Hummer one day :smt043

Who can afford to gas up a Hummer with about a 2 mpg figure :smt022
With a Delorean you could change your name to Marty McFly :smt023

Hey virtual alan aren't you on the eastern side of the Atlantic?

My current car is a 1992 Saturn SL1. Here's a pic of what it sorta looks like:
courtesy of google image finder (this saturn is a 1995 SL1 but strangely looks exactly the same as mine yet the VIN says 1991 manufacturer date)
http://auto.consumerguide.com/images/autoreview/lrg/95130021990001LRG.jpg
The only difference on mine is that it has no sun roof, it is of the same color that car in the picture is. I got my car for free but since March 2003 (when I got it) I had put about $2,000 into it already for mechanical repairs and still needs some more work sorta. With my new job I hope to be able to finance a brand new Honda Civic, those things are reliable and last way longer than a crappy Kia Rio (Expect that car to need some major repairs in 2005, honestly).
My current car handles pretty well, it doesn't burn oil and it doesnt leak any fluids. The only thing it really needs now is a new Rack and Pinion and those suckers cost a lot to fix/replace. One thing I like about this car though is that it has a built in turbo, well not really turbo. The thing is, the car is automatic transmission and next to the gearbox where I switch from Parking to Neutral to Drive, etc. there is this switch and on one side it says Performance and the other says Normal. It affects my acceleration and I accelerate faster when its on performance. But I have to get rid of this car quick before it becomes un-sellable.
My dream cars are:
-Lancer Evolution VII GSR
-Delorean (a restored delorean goes for $30k)
-Saab 900Se (this will be my next car after the civic but only until I land a job at a place like Lockheed Martin and get paid $50k/year you gotta love wars)
BTW Yakumo. I know an old highschool buddy of mine who owns the new Lancer EvoVIII. It is the same color as that and it runs great. He bought it with cash because he does street racing (the illegal kind). One race he won $15k and it was with the Evo. He and his buds had to high tail out of there before the losers went on a shooting rampage for loosing that much cash.

The lancer you're talking about is the Front Wheel Drive car that is 4cylinders 1.8liters. That one is the butchered one, however, for $50k you can get the US version of the Evo8. I saw 2 different colored Evo8s today as I was driving around here in Orlando, FL.

OK. Tell me then? Tell me what parts HAVE been taken out, etc in the US version?
One thing I'm starting to see more over here in the US though is fake European License Plates. You know, the long ones with the big black lettering. I'm seeing all types of cars from, riced up civics to sh*tt* Toyota Corrollas and Camrys' from the freaking 80's. I laugh at the people who buy that stuff.
What really cracks me up though is when someone buy the plastic hub-cap spinnaz that barely spin and cost like $20 and puts them on their beaten-up car.
When I'm super rich, in the future, I will not just import videogames. I'll import cars from around the world. Did you know that it costs around $30k for a nicely equipped Lancer Evo6 to purchase, however if I wanted it shipped here, I'll have to pay at least $60k. That's insane, but worth it :smt033

I drive a beat up Ford Mondeo on an M reg. It is a piece of crap that was given to me a couple of years ago by a friend of my wife. I really dislike cars, I dislike driving but unfortunatly it would take me about 3 hours+ on public transport to get to work (that is only a 35 mile journey too). Video games are cool, cars suck. Oh, and DeLoreans are rather scarce, the parts are even scarcer, and the reason for their scarcity is that they have always been hideously unreliable. The gull wing mechanism often broke, trapping the driver inside the car!!! I saw a pretty good condition one go for £7000 recently, which is half of $30,000 ;)

used to go around in my red Mazda Roadster. It had fair share of h/w as well as interior mod. I used Mazaspeed parts to hot up its engine plus complete custom exhaust system from header to tail end. The entire air box assembly was also replaced by one developed by an Aussie chap some years ago - it's very effective cold air induction system where it sucks air from under the windshield area... Interior wise it had 6 point roll cage although I had to remove overhead bars for street driving since it was illegal and pair of Spacro Rev bucket seats on custom bracket to mount on the stock rail - another requirement to be street regal. The steering wheel has one touch release hub for easy access and carbon fibre centre console plus MGB style sliding rear view mirror. Outside it had low profile headlights as well as twin tail lamp job as well as side skirts and new front bumper. Later I swapped the gear box to 6TM... and 16" wheels.. etc.
cost me fair bit of money over six years I had the car. Was blast and a lot of fun to drive around... sadly when I got married I had to sold it and now I'm driving in my dad's Jaguar S-Type with number plate ***007 in European style number plate. :p my old man is overseas for most of time so we agreed that I drive his Jag as long as I put the bills for insurance, service and etc.
sweet car it is. He bought Sports edition with pretty much all the options except sat nav as he has no use for it...

It's the opposite down here.
A 2nd hand Peugeot like mine costs something like 19.000 , 20.000 Reais. A 1998 BMW 318 Compact i saw last week was on sale for 28.000 Reais.
Plus insurance is higher for that BMW. Not to mention maintenance costs, since the BMW's are imported, while the Peugeot 206 is manufactured here.

Too bad Mazda is not avaiable in Brazil anymore (They sold the 626, the miata and the MX3 on the early 90's, but the Mazda group decided to stop selling cars here. I don't know why). You can buy RX-7 and RX-8, but only through individual importers, making the price of the car raise a lot :Hangman:

My current vehicle is a 1997 Civic EX. Nothing great, personally I wish I had the cash to get something else, but it gets me around, is good on gas and will last forever.
The Evo VIII is nice, and yes you can't beat the Japanese versions. It's not the fastest car, but you throw a few upgrades at it and you have one sweet ride.
My personal fav is the Evo IV, it's older but I think it's the best looking one.

anyone drive a porsche? Like a street ready 944 ?
beleve it or not, i used to have one. it was my first car. this is almost exactly waht it looked like:
http://www.nize944.de/andere_Fahrzeuge/r_engelke/re1.jpg
i LOVED those wheels! accept when i hit a curb once and had to pay 50 bucks to get the rim fixed. alloys aint as easy to fix as good ol steel. and a porsche just dosnt look right if its not pocsche red! or in my 944's case, half red half orange! lol, it had severe rear end dammage, so the privious owner grafted a rear from annother car. thats the only way a 17 yo could afford a porsche on a mongomery wards salary.
now adays, my pride and joy is a butternut yellow 1967 Camaro 327 coupe. lurking under the hood is a 350 with a 410/210 cam and victor jr. intake and a holly 450 cfm carb. but heres my dream engine:

a 427 small block.
http://www.universalautosalesandclassiccars.com/images/1967%20Camaro/1967CamaroLeftSide.jpg
the car itself looks alot like that, only no stripe and torq thrust mags. and ofcoarse different color.
and finally... my beater!

I own a Saturn SL1 4door Sedan 1992. It has almost 150k miles even though odometer says 99k. I got the car for free from my stepdad as a gift, however I had to pay to get it running again as it was broken down when I got it. I've had it since March 2003 and since then I have put in almost $2000 into it. Here's whats I had replaced:
March 2003: New feul-line, plus new fluids, new spark plugs, new timing belt and regular tune-up. $329.
June 2003: New feul pump. $329
July 2003: New timing chain for inside the engine. $501.
September 2003: New radiator. $250
December 2003: New ignition panel (that thing that connects to the spark plugs), plus new spark plugs and cables for it. $188.
March 2004: New feul sensor. $175.
Grand total of $1772. I'm now about to see if the rack and pinion plus CV joints need to be replaced/fixed. On top of that I'm saving up money for a new engine and tranny incase they break down. If they do and I do get a new engine and tranny in, then I'll basically end up with a car who's condition is that of an $8000 car but I'd put in almost $5k into the whole car plus it would have 0 miles on the new odometer that I will get for when I do that major overhaul.

I've got a '98 S14 240SX.
Used to drive a 2004 WRX, decided AWD is no fun. I'd still take an EVO VIII MR FQ400, wish they sold them here (we only get the normal MR).
A Sileighty is NOT a normal 240sx. It is an S13 hatchback (aka 180sx) with the front-end from an S13 Silvia (aka S13 Coupe).
SILvia + oneEIGHTY = Sileighty
Likewise, the American S13 coupes, which were produced with the japanese 180sx front-end, are generally known as "One-vias"
Gouki: Nice Turbo II. My roommate has a '91 TII, which is definitely not in as good of condition as yours is, but still pretty good. He's also got a busted throttle position sensor right now, so as he's running off-boost, he's lucky if he's putting out 100hp, lol.
Oh, and the Noble M12/M400 is the coolest car ever. Doesn't it out G the McLaren F1 on a skidpad? That's sick...

oh well seems to be an old topic but Ill add my car.......
1989 VW Golf GL 1.8 8V.........
An Old car, but is as new, all standard, no stupid chav boy racer big bumper kits or arch kits or spoilers. It does have 15inch 3 spoke alloys on, but it rises its profile and makes it look better.
I love it, nothing more so when you pull up along a boyracer (or girl, lets be P.C about it), they sit there revving their 1.3 05 Fiat Punto with neons and craptastic sounding exchaust trying to entice. Well needless to sayI can see how pissed off they are when I look back in my rearview mirror and they have just been out driven by a 16year old car......always make's me chuckle.
Dont get me wrong, Im not a boyracer, I respect my car, look after it, but people who spend all this money on modding 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 etc is just totaly stupid......
If and when I can afford it, Im having one of these

Yup :D I got an orange sega logo in the back window. Found it on eBay and had to have it!! The car is also lowered 70mm, makes it sweet to pelt around corners on country lanes but the ride is pretty hard!
I LOVE the eight-six. I always do them up on Tokyo Highway Challenge! But you're wrong about the colour... white is best!

The grey two-tone looks a lot nicer than I originally thought though. Those pictures are kinda crappy - it's pretty much mint condition! Looks a bit manky inside though, and there's no stereo. Did they actually come with cup holders? I thought it was just an Initial D thing...
That dealer has some other bangin' cars - a bright yellow Evo V, a couple of Skylines, EK Civic Type R, a new model Fairlady Z with tail pipes you can fit your hand in, a Nissan March Bolero (probably the most hideous thing on earth), and a Corolla FX with a Felix the Cat sticker on the side window... weird...

The Corolla Levin, you mean? But they don't have the pop-up headlights! That'd be like a Mega Drive I without the headphone socket and the volume control!
Oh, wait, they named the car wrong on the site (well they named it like the equivilent european car, well what they thought, which is still wrong) - it's a Sprinter Trueno - or ハチロク if you're hard core! :-D
Personally I'd hate to buy a white car, or even a half-white one like Takumi's. They get dirty too easily, and you'll notice rust too easily - definately a problem with a car that's 19-22 years old!

Nope, it's a 4.
It's the old Renault Clio. Mine is 1996. You can drive the new one in Forza Motorsport.
1.2 liter (which is ~73 cubic inches).
well, i mostly do in-town drives (towns are limited to 50 kmph ~31 mph in my country) so i dont need more.

Get ready for it to break down.... and eventually start burning oil at 70K miles. Speaking of breaking down. My Taurus is in the shop probably going to get a new head gasket or new head because radiator fluid leaks into 1st cylinder...

I drive a Chevy Blazer during the week, but on the weekends I drive my sweet 62' VW Karmann Ghia.
There's a really cool exotic car dealer near my house that always has a few used low mileage Porsches, I toyed with the idea of getting a black 1988 944. It was in my price range, but the damned maintenance would probably have killed me.

I advise you to watch the Top Gear episode where there is a challenge of buying a Porsche with 15.000 pounds max. Hammond buys a 924 for 7.500, May buys a 944 for 9.500 and Clarkson gets a 928 for 15.000.
After some tests they came to a conclusion that buying old porsches was not a good idea :icon_bigg
