Ok. What I'm aiming for in this topic is for everyone to recommend some of their favourite unknown or niche titles to other ASSEMbler members. So no obvious titles like Shenmue or Final Fantasy.
I'll kick it off with the awesome...

Punch the Monkey! Game Edition - PSone - Japanese import only
http://allsoft.scei.co.jp/jacket/m/slps02805.gif

Great little music game that uses the Guncon and features remixes of various Lupin songs. Small discs(the beats of the song) move along a line towards a target. Depending on when you shoot the disc you will be awarded with either "Great"(right on target), "Good"(little off target) or "Bad"(Off target). Get to many Bads and you fail the level.
Even if you don't have the Guncon it can still be played with a normal controller. The small discs are changed to either Triangle, Square, Circle or Cross(the PSX pad face buttons). This almost makes it an entire new game as you now have to press combinations of buttons(eg: 000X).
My only complaint is the lack of levels/songs, only six of them

Next up...

Slap Happy Rythm Busters - PSone - Japanese import only
http://allsoft.scei.co.jp/jacket/m/slps02789.gif

One of the very first games to use Cel-shading. A cool little fighter based around music with some strange characters. Fighting isnt that complex but it features some very cool supers.
When you have built up enough of you super meter you can perform a "Beat Combo" by pressing L2. During the beat combo you have to press combinations of buttons to do damage. If you have poor timing you won't do much damage but if your perfect you will devastate them.

Party time...

Bishi Bashi Special - PSone - Avaliable all regions
http://allsoft.scei.co.jp/jacket/m/slpm87206.gif

One of the best Party games ever. Most games are either slamming the buttons as fast as possible, pressing the right color button or memory. The games are weird ranging from shaking a can of soda to the moon to shotting muscle men out of a cannon.
Grab a multi-tap get some friends around and enjoy.

That's it from me(for now :) ). I'm expecting some new games to put on my to get list next time I check this :D .

If you ever get a chance to play SkyGunner for the PS2 give it a try.
Devil Dice was another fun game for the PSOne. One of the few games published form a Net Yarzoe developer.

Yes, Devil Dice is a very fun game. It is one of the few PSX games that I think should be rereleased.

There was also a sequel (not directly) called Intelligent Cube. I was finally able to find this game in really good shape at an Eb (don't ask me how, most of their games have been 'Doctored').

Also there is a game called Bombastic (Capcom) which has been released in the US. It looks exactly like DD, but I can't be sure because I have't played (Bombastic) yet. It looks to be a true sequel to DD.

^_^_^

There are quite a few for Dreamcast. Here are a few of my most liked hidden gems.

Blue Submarine No.6 - Time & Tide.
http://www.segagagadomain.com/dc-covers3/blue_sub-front.jpg
This is a great exploration / shooter that was released in quite small numbers in Japan. The main action sections are beautifully done with a wonderful feel to the controlls that makes you think you're incontrol of the Sub. The game also features some nice Cell Shaded sections when you chat to people. Blue Submarine can be a bit tricky without Japanese ability but it's well worth a go.

Bomber Hehhe
http://www.segagagadomain.com/dc-covers/bomber-front.jpg
What can I say that the title doesn't. Place bombs and blow the sh!t out of buildings, sky scrapers, UFOs and underwater riggs.

es
http://www.segagagadomain.com/dc-covers/es-front.jpg
a wonderful detective game set as an interactive drama. These games are normally crap but this one is well done, successfully creating the right atmosphere. Japanese is a must if you want to play this.

http://www.segagagadomain.com/dc-covers2/vermilion-front.jpg
Vermilion Desert is a great combat sim featuring MECHS !! You know it's good when Mechs are involved 8) Again, some knowledge of Japanese would be useful.

there are loads more such as Rent-a-Hero, Under Cover Kei, Pop'n Music and so on, but I feel that most people already know these.

Road Rage 3 PS2 (touge) which is a slippery number that gained a UK release as a budget title, its a racing game which is simple enough but its a technical racer that takes TIME to learn. Its controls are very drifty and the graphics arnt up to much but give it time and it will pay for itself :)

http://images.google.co.uk/images?q=tbn:qfzGXTTes8kJ:www.phoenixgames.nl/games/roadrage/screenshots/rrshot1.jpg

I will post a few more after sorting through my long lost games :)

one of my favorite often-overlooked games for the DC:

http://www.metacritic.com/media/games/platforms/drm/oogabooga/picture.jpg

shame they havent come up with a GC port/sequel for it yet, has some of the most hilarious gameplay around (boar-back boulder soccer, anyone?)

I must recommend a game called Getter Love. It is a dating sim/board game for N64. It is a pretty fun game, especially with a few people. The graphics are great and the charater designs are fun.

Another over looked game is Tetris 64 w/Bio Sensor. This is a normal Tetris game, with all the levels and fun of other Tetris games, but with a twist. You hook the sensor up to your ear and it uses your pulse to ramp up the speed of the game.

I'm having to agree with A.Snow on Skygunner - if you're in need of some goofy, semi-Panzer Dragoon-style aerial shenanigans, I highly recommend that one.

Also, if you're a fan of 2D fighting games, I highly recommend you pick up Guilty Gear X (Dreamcast or PS2, Dreamcast preferably) or Guilty Gear XX #reload on PS2. This has to be the greatest and most beautiful fighting game ever made, and it puts Capcom's efforts to shame.

And if you're a fan of tiny-spaceship shooters, you owe it to yourself to pick up R-Type Final on PS2 - it's beautiful, hard, and you can't say no to 101 unlockable ships.

And to break away from PS2 recommendations, get Gunstar Heroes for the Sega Genesis/Megadrive. It's a sidescrolling shooter/beat-em-up in the vein of Contra (well, sortof) done by the venerable Treasure. The simultaneous 2-player action is where it really shines, as you can toss your buddy around as a weapon and the amount of stuff exploding onscreen doubles.

And finally, if you're looking for something portable, get Super Ghosts And Goblins on GBA. But don't throw your Gameboy against the wall while playing it - the game is still damned hard.

I actually played Bishi Bashi. At first I thought it was a vertical shooter but turned out to be a party game.

Two great games that went under the radar are:

-Hey You Pickachu. I own it and its lots of fun. Now you might be thinking that there is Seaman for the DC but I know a lot of people who own that game and not many people own the N64. On top of that, its is a fun game.

-Worms World Party (or any of the worm games). Sorry but those party games you guys listed aren't as fun as this one. What's great about World Party in particular is that its VERY addictive and easy to play. On top of that, the worms curse at you if you screw your turn, etc. Another great feature is that it can be played in multiple languages.

MDK2: It may be incredibly hard, but it is still a blast to play and has great graphics.

EGG: A hand drawn RPG with a similar gameplay style to Zelda.

Hey Yakumo, you like Under Cover Key?, most people think its crap. I like it too, hehe. I guess its an acquired taste.

A first I thought Undercover Kei was a load of crap. Then one day I threw it back on since I had nothing new and found myself enjoying it. sadly I got near the end of the game with hardly no life and no weapons apart from the batton and have to face that tall skin headed guy in the great maze type room. I just can't kill him because after 2 hits I'm dead :Hangman:

Dreamcast Re-Volt. Hard as hell, but ful and very beautiful to look at. Some of the best gfx on the DC I think. everyone should ive it a go. I mean, it's only £1.50 Also, Silicone Vallet on the N64 isn't bad.

Tony

Yes, Re Volt on DC is great. I loved the N64 version, and couldn't wait to grab the DC one. It is still a very fun game, reminding me of an updated R.C. ProAm.

One of my all time fav games is Sqoon. A classic shooter, with great scenery, great game play, and very challenging levels. If any game deserves a re-release or remake it's Sqoon. One of the best Fami/NES games.

DD, Sky Gunner and Victorious Boxer are all great games. I believe there is a sequel either out or coming out soon for Victorious Boxer.
R-type final is definetly on my to get list.
Tetris 64 with the pulse sensor looks great. Does it work well?
Speaking of Rent a Hero no.1 did the Xbox port ever come out?(in english)

Well, NES is my thang mainly...though I haven't bough a game in ages...nothing good round here...so...I'll list some NES games.

Anticipation - Rareware's awesome board game. 4 Players, Huge party Fun...except when I'm around...I'm too damn good...

Legendary Wings - Capcom Vertical Shooter -Funfunfunfun

Jackal --2 Jeeps, 2 players, rocking fun, though short.

Super Dodge Ball -Though this has gotten noticed more lately...its a majorly awesome game that a lot of people don't know about.

Life Force - Aka Salamander in the arcades...one of those fantastic Gradius series offshoots. So much fun, Is can'ts gets enoughs....

Defender of the Crown- Cinemaware Classic...how many strategy/war games are there on the NES...not a ton!

Hatris- It's the puzzle game...with hats...I don't know if I like the game...or the number of hilarious hats and heads to put them on...

Ghosts & Goblins - Most people pay attention to the sequels on SNES and Genesis...but this one is still wicked fun...though stupidly hard.

Kya Dark Lineage-its such a great game that didn't get much attention, it also had a unique story, and most people who have played it enjoyed it.

the only bad thing about it is that the camera messes up every now and then that it will hide "Kya" by putting the camera in front of a rock or whatever and can even lead to kya dieing.

Beyond good and evil- another great game like kya dark lineage and very similar too.

la pucelle tactics- i find it one of the overlooked games from NIS, it's actually really fun and reminds me of the suikoden games.

Sphinx and the cursed mummy was good too.

Rally de Africa and Rally de Europe. Both PS1.

Very fun Rally games. It's know more to be a Sega Rally clone, but the graphics aren't that good. Still the game is very catchy.
