here (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=8178893206)is a gameboy eerpom test cart

Yes.that may be true but it is not everday you can get an urreleased game from the developer of the game. If the cart was not coming from the programmer I never would have gone as high as I did. :)

I've played the real thing. Trust me, the mock up is probably more fun...

What was Atari thinking? How many games can you play with an 8x8 grid of large red LED's? There are actually two images on each holographic slide that are shown depending on what was going on in 'game'. I got a chance to play Superman, and one picture was an action pose of Superman doing something that was shown during the game, while the other was a 'death' pose that was shown when you lost. And yes, the games did suck monkey butt.

You should really put more information in your auction.... like the fact you have opened it up and messed around inside...

True but its way to much hassle before and after the auction with questions and in the past I have stated exact faults to only find there have been other faults with the equipment and then had hassle about not stating a fault etc lol. Ive stated its broken, may have bits missing etc etc and its 99p, simple :)

It is not an original game though, it's a bootleg from thailand. It is one of the better bootleggers, in my opinion, but it is still a bootleg.

I have some games from this same bootlegger for the ps1, so that would be my first guess; but it could be a hacked ps1 version for the saturn or the other way around (though this is mostly likely improbable). Though I have seen PAL games hacked into NTSC before.

This mud_kau_do_bid_duck guy is screwing over M2 owners. Yesterday he bought a complete dev kit and now he's putting in big bucks to buy the manuals and Dev CDROM that he already won in another auction. Hopefully he will put them back on ebay someday (maybe he didn't know they came in the kit). I was really looking forward to writing some code for the M2 but without those manuals and CDROM it's practically impossible.

btw. the cdrom is just the old version of the software toolkit its release 2.7 the 3do m2 development systems on ebay sold with release 3.0 and a floppy disc for the cdrom emulator with driver and a new 3do m2 bios

i think at least 3 people in our forum are in posession of the toolkit and iam thinking about sharing it with other people but right now just dont have time to try the setup out by myself so that has to wait some weeks

Money is not the problem it's the principle. Someone else should have a chance at the dev books and not just me, I said "M2 owners". Thankfully he didn't win the auction. I guarantee that this guy would have either tried to sell them for profit later on (probably repo them) or store them in a box helping no one.

BEWARE of bidding on that. Check this thread: http://www.dreamcasthistory.com/dreamcasting2/viewtopic.php?t=690 ; previous buyers of that seller's "proto" GD-Rs have been ripped off--the GD-Rs don't work.

I'm one of the previous buyers, just looking at the discs I noticed that they have only recorded the track readable by PC and audio CD Player and not the track with the game data readable by Dreamcast so they are totally defective or fake. Of the 4 discs I received none of them works (tried with System Disc 2, swap trick to verify them totally). Another buyer with a Rez disc can't get it to work either.

With so many dev systems and blank disc's in the wild it was only a matter of time that someone produced protos on demand. This seller might have fucked up on burning them but others won't. That is a shame because unless the game has never been seen or it's an unknown revision Dreamcast GDr's are going to end up being worth no more then bootlegs.

Fatalist
05-04-2005, 05:48 AM
BuyAtari the name of one of the owners of InsertGame.co.uk is Callum and the address is from Kilbirnie, Ayrshire (UK).

Yes A. Snow probably it was only a matter of time that someone decided to make fake protos to obtain a benefit. Is very sad, because people will have to go with a lot of care to avoid things like this.

Funkstar gone crooked? I thought he was alright...

Mind you though, the temptation... I I have loads of PS1 CDR's and thought about how easy it would be to burn something to them, take a wire brush to them to age it, and stick them on ebay to make a killing. I wouldn't do it as I know how pissed off I would be shelling out for something rare only to find it was a fake. But it can be done, and it's hard to (dis)prove them as being both real or fake (except for the semi blank GDR's, but they could be genuine mis-burns, but then you wouldn't label mis-burns...)

LeGIt
05-04-2005, 07:03 AM
You also wouldn't mail out a failed burn to a magazine to review it! Of course each GD-R would have been tested before being mailed for review.

It was recently recieved from the offices of a now defunct magazine publisher.

Tachikoma
05-04-2005, 07:12 AM
Yeah that's what I meant when I said you wouldn't even bother to label them, let alone send them out... mind you a "defunct magazine publisher" could be anyone, I could publish a magazine to myself, but give up, technically I am then a "defunct magazine publisher" so it's all how you say it. I could then sell my PS1 CDR's and say legally they were from a "defunct magaine publisher" even though the disks were themselves illegal.

Anyway, this is getting a bit O/T

Fatalist
05-04-2005, 07:28 AM

You had luck to forget about the auctions then. I saw other members of Assembler bidding on them. I wrote an email to the winner of the Rez disc, he left good feedback, he did not know that it is possible to run GD-Rs on a common DC without System Disc 2 so he did no tried the disc with the swap trick until I gave him the link at the Wombat site with the method.

Hello

I bought a GDR too from another seller on Ebay, I tried to boot it with my system disc 2 and nothing happened, my dreamcast rebooted once I inserted the GD-R then it came back to the main bios screen.

Anyway I just checked the seller's items a few items and she seems to have an awful lot of Quake 3 GD-Rs one last week on this week !!! The seller is ratruby.

Tachikoma I told you I knew how to boot GDRs last week. Well System Disc 2 was the only I knew and really believed it would work. He guess who look like an idiot now ???

Would you mind explaining me the swap trick??? I assume GDRs are region lock and mine is US and my DC is japanese does that count at all?

Many thanks

Sabre

LeGIt
05-05-2005, 04:37 AM
some GD_R are region locked, some are not, so if it looks like it's not fake with some nice data tracks burned on there try it in each region DC and you should have some luck.

I cannot speak to any GD-Rs on eBay (or elsewhere) but I can confirm that it IS very much possible to have a region coded GD-R. The System Disc 2 will only remove the copy protection lock, allowing the GD-R media to be read. A US coded GD-R will not boot in a JPN or PAL coded DC and vice versa if you are only using the SD2.

Hello,

Thanks all for the explanations, I had the feeling it would be region locked, sadly.

I took a look at the GDR surface and it looks al burn to me you can see colour differences on the edge of the GD like on regular CD which indicates the surface has been burned, but obviously I could be wrong.

That is so lame to create fake GDRs anyway, I'm sure we are quickly going to see betas of Resident Evil 2 on PSX CDRs since a lot of them were floating on Ebay.

I guess now I need to source a US DC, which is not going to make my other half very happy.

BTW Nice auction Yakumo ;)

sabre470, your GD-R is probably ok, but it must be region locked, some GD-Rs are region coded and they will not boot on another region DC even with the System Disc 2. But there's a trick to run them on your region DC. You can use the swap method available at Wombat site:

http://www.xs4all.nl/~zizzo/special4_ENG.htm

To run GD-R from another region, before inserting the normal game insert the Gameshark CD-X, then when Gameshark says "insert disc" put the normal game from your region (PAL, JP or US) and then while the disc is spinning make the swap with the GD-R and load the disc from the Gameshark menu. Is a bit rude but it works.

I took a look at the GDR surface and it looks al burn to me you can see colour differences on the edge of the GD like on regular CD which indicates the surface has been burned, but obviously I could be wrong.

That's good, I'm sure it works, however just by looking at the GD-Rs from www.insertgame.co.uk I knew that they would not work.

It's really not that extreme - People spend 1000s on ornaments, yet you don't see people saying "hey, dont buy that 18th century Flowerpot, All you're going to do is put it on your shelf".

Or So he can play it. I don't know whether this game has been ripped, if not chances are most people won't have played it. $144 is a good price for something that is almost unreleased

I'm selling that Primal Rage on behalf of someone else, and one further copy has come to light since I listed the auction, for a total of 3 known copies. (To give a relative comparison, I could probably account for 10-20 copies of Darxide)

One assumes there are more out there somewhere, but I know a lot of people who have been searching for it for a long time and no-one has been able to confirm any more.
Then again, it's a game that isn't really a "known" rarity outside of hardcore PAL Sega collectors circles, so we may see more appear after the word gets out. (I just hope they wait until my auction finishes! )
