chucked my Ikari Warriors and Motorodeo on ebay. yes my feedback score is puny. I was a bad kitty and didn't pay the fees on my last account and then when I wanted to it was too late (the email account I was then using no longer worked).

Does anyone know about how many of these were made?

this question seems pretty common... I believe oldengineer has said multiple times that it was around 50 made with less than a dozen in collectors hands. So these should fetch a hefty price.

I want to say the $1500+ price has been tossed around for one of these, but I don't really remember.

3 on eBay at the same time seems quite odd.

edit: just notice the second controller in this auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/XBOX-LAUNCH-TEAM-2001-BILL-GATES-SIGNED-SPECIAL-EDITION_W0QQitemZ8231642426QQcategoryZ62053QQssPag eNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Take a closer look at the artwork on those games. Those are so obviously copies (even if you aren't familiar with the original discs) it isn't even funny. Placement is all wrong. He tried to hide it by taking the photo from a distance rather than a close up shot, but even so there's no way that those games are originals which means that the $600+ he's asking is a total ripoff.

Whoever siliconvalleyliquidators might be (cough*) he should be careful because i had trouble paying him through bidpay. They were asking for the federal tax id for the company, and i don't think that "siliconvalleyliquidators" actually works for the company "Silicon Valley Liquidators".

Just a question about his xbox tho, isn't that a retail xbox he's selling with the debug refresh disk? (and an ancient one at that).

That's a load of hype if I ever saw one. Heh.

The rarest original PS1 is the original SCPH-1000. Only system to have a built in S-Video port. Never made it out of Japan.

I certainly wouldn't pay $200 for a Dual Shock PS1 unless I felt like burning money in the fireplace.

It's not replacing the buy it now. It is something new. I used it before. I think they limit the amount of offers you can submit though.

Yes, I think the default limit is 1 offer per user. But I believe that number can be changed by the seller. It's been around for a while I thought??

EDIT: nevermind, I just looked it up. It's 1 per user for nearly everything. Or 3 per user if it's listed in an industrial or business section. And that cannot be changed by the seller.

I already have one of these pins. I guess the name and Virtual Xperience thing on the top is driving the price? You can still pick these up for $2.50 so I'm not sure why it's so high. Thanks for the link though, I may email this guy just to connect to see what he worked on while he was with them....

The seller doesnt say anything about it being a live beta kit.You cant do a whole lot
with one except live beta test games. And I think the bios on there acts more retail
than debug reason why you cant use the recovery disc.

How about 'Way overpriced!' http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif 'Loose' like this they usually sell for about $400-500. A complete one (everything you see in this auction is also packaged in a white cardboard box with a certificate from the contest, etc) might be worth this much, but probably closer to $700.

I didn't even know this was sold..i thought it never made it to production.

It was, actually two versions exist. The original Battlesphere, which Scatologic sold for $69.99 with all proceeds going to charity. In addition, they auctioned off the first copy and it sold for over $1500.

Sometime after that Battlesphere Gold was released with updated models and CD bypass. It also included the JUGS development system and some homebrew titles. That was sold for $159.99.

These days the original goes for around $300 and Gold goes for around $500 or more.

I think he means he sold something outside of eBay to someone who he believed wanted it for their personal use only to have them jack it up and sell it on eBay. If thats what he means I believe he intentionally left the specific item he was talking about out of the post.

Do you know if the drivers are included? I'm fairly certain the sound board is the Mac version. (I think the PC version is H800 not H700). Are the AV cables included or a cable to hook the debugger to the dev kit to do printfs?

Man, I love the stupid ass questions that mysterious fellow gets on his auctions.

Q: My son is 11 years old and has been a fan of Sega, Dreamcast for about 6 years. I believe these systems help children learn to read early, their memory is sharp and hand/eye becomes better. After all that my son wants this to learn with, he wants to make his own games. Is this all he would need to do this with? Thank you! Mom

A:He'd need a college degree and advanced physics, and to be able to code in assembly and C.

from what I can remember in some post, they aren't retail but debug but looks like ordinary retail iirc.. hence why it says "XBOX console developer QA" on the auction

From the auction: "From a large playtest department, it was used to provide phone support"

I'm pretty sure it's retail. You can see the stickers on the bottom of the unit. Plus i don't think any devs give phone support for debug code (at least not to the average joe). Devs don't use debug machines for final QA, it doesn't make any sense. Retail code won't work on a debug xbox*. You use a standard off the shelf xbox to do QA. So a QA phone support xbox != debug xbox. While there are black debugs out there, you probably don't want one unless you're a collector or you already know what it does. I'll hold my tongue as to what i think about this auction.

*Yes, there is a way around this, but it's irrevelant to this post.

"The only good Xbox is a dead Xbox"

I got same unit few months ago from this seller, and it's indeed regular Xbox 1.0, just with Acclaim sticker and fairly battered on outside. It works great, and as it'a 1.0, it is probably the best unit to turn into fake debug (add 64MB ram and TSOP debug bios).

I'm not saying it's authentic, but it's not absolutely fake either. After all, Gates *was* out at the store the night of the launch to sell the first system. Wouldn't be impossible for someone to ask him to sign a faceplate. Signature is close enough to be real.

Problem is there is just no way to really prove it one way or another unless you actually saw him sign it. You can't simply discount it because it's different from the launch signature. My own signature can vary significantly depending on how busy I am. I know if my signature was going to be on a system I’d write my name out a bunch of times and pick the best one. That's different from writing out a bunch of autographs quickly at a launch event. Not to mention what he was writing on.

...It saves you having to burn disc's and it allows 100% 'Proper' disc file 'positioning'.

...In other words it 'emulates' a DVD drive and a pressed disc.

would be something like a Hardware Virtual Drive? (like Daemon Tools or Alcohol?)

Hmmm, it's a lot more than that, Alcohol and the such like merely emulate a drive in which an image can be run from.

The Raptor allow's you to position data exactly where it should be, as if it were going to be on a pressed DVD-9 D/L disc.

...In other words it lets you choose the layer you wish to place the data on, and the position that its read from, thus data reading can be optimised in real-time for testing purposes, thus aiding final submission.

...You can also choose which make of DVD drive that you would like to emulate, be that fast of slow.

Someone mistreated the unit thats all. I dont think he means its from a dev kit though. He also isnt 100% sure on what kind of unit it is. Maybe a sony debug unit or a special display unit. Also if ling doesnt know what it is its likely that not many people might.

Indeed. Ling may always be a little (ok, a lot) high, but he certainly knows what he's talking about. It is different than retail models...so right there it's probably worth something. He doesn't deal in crap.

I noticed he's not including the HDD plate with it... That's engraved with the recipient's name (or nick name), isn't it? Does Microsoft tell them they aren't allowed to sell them? (So he's trying to protect his ident by not including this?)

Just curious about this part being missing...

The unit with the different color trigger buttons are from the first batch made. They were given to developers for testing purposes, but they're identical to the retail model other than the button color.

All were recalled, and subsequently destroyed. A few managed to survive. I don't believe there were more than 100 made, so i'm guessing there's less than 10 left.

There are 2 different launch models, one doesn't have the engraving (as a matter of fact, i'm not sure all of the second model have it either).

Nope. Anything over $500 is a flat $4.80 fee, so idiots can get away with doing crap like this. Hell, I wouldn't doubt that it is a forgery too.
