I know the Asia versions of PSX/PS2 games are the same Japanese game, but with a slightly different package and dual documentation, usually Japanese/Chinese & English.

Asian version is usually black and white manual and no extras. Usually a plain packaging too.

I'd say so. Black and white manual, plain packaging, and no extras... Might as well put a "Cheap Crap" sign on it for me in my opinion.

This reminds me, I spent all that time and money modding my PS2, and I only have 1 Jap game for it. I need to get some more to justify my decision to mod the system...

yeah, better buy Japan or NTSC-J than the Asian version.

I think developers are fighting a losing battle with this "Asian" issue. Even when they release as "Asian" version with all those cut downs, people there still don't buy original games :)

when it says "Asian" they really meant those South East Asian countries, like Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, HK, Indenosia, Brunei etc.

And we all know nobody buys original games there, except maybe in HK and Singapore.

what region are these Asian PS2 games coded for? Do they work on Japanese systems only or is there a specific region code (and hence PS2 models) for them?

Yes, the original Japanese versions are the way to go. The price difference is sometimes non-existent, i.e. I usually see the JP and Asian versions priced the same (this is just what I have seen).

As far as region coding, the one or 2 Asian versions I have [:-(], still require a modded system to play. They won't boot on a US or European system (again, this may be different between the games themselves).

NTSC J can be Japan or Asian release

But some games has some minimal differences.

Gran Turismo 4 Prologue, for exemple. The tests have differences between the Japan and Asia release.

For example, in one particular test, in japanese version you use a car, and on the asian a totally different one. This reflects on lap times also, so they are different too.

As far as we know these Asian PS2 titles work perfectly well on a Japanese system, hence Asian/Japanese PS2 machines and games must have the same regional coding.
Ballacks, looks like I'm in the Shizer again. I'm off to read the rules... :typin:

When you post in threads like these, you're supposed to post the same thing 3 times in a row. It's in the rules.
