ive tried searching but a lot of people refer the original xbox to the phat xbox 360s which doesnt help. I might end up getting this for my birthday coming up and was wondering if it will work well with the original xbox? i plan to use it with my 360 as well and want to be able to use it for the original xbox. i saw some test for it on youtube and it looked good on his dashboard but when he played a game it went all crazy

not sure if thats a common problem with it or not.

also another one ive seen is when it shows black borders on the side like this

is that normal as well or can that be changed?

I wouldn't see why not, since the PVR is just recording the video signal. There isn't any interface with it other than a video out, so chances are the PVR that was used in the video had a slip up with the signal. Who knows.
The black borders is because he's for some reason recording it in 4:3 mode. It's outputting 16:9, so probably the PVR he's got doesn't take 16:9. Any modern PVR, especially an HD PVR will do 16:9.
But it will work.

It should work fine. The black bars are because a good portion of the game is 4:3 only, not widescreen.
