It's a perfectly generic Japanese horse race, I don't notice anything special about it. Maybe you should know that the Japanese law on gambling demands that a yeti, a walrus and a giant wooden horse with an upside down guy who has his head stuck in the saddle are featured in every horse race, so maybe that's why it seemed a bit unreal to you.
