Hello fellow gamers!

My journey through videogames started when i was a kid in the early nineties. My parents xmas gift was a Atlantis Famicom Clone which i played to the point it got damaged, unrepaired and thrashed later on. Meanwhile i sneaked into coffee shops and shady arcades feeding Jamma machines with my pocket money, keeping one eye on the game and the other at the front door to run from the cops if needed. :luigi:

(Portuguese legal age is 16 years old to play arcade machines and 18 years old to gamble at casinos) :banghead:

My parents found out i was gaming illegally and got really angry with me at first, afterwards they gave me a Sega Megadrive for my birthday by the time Sega Saturn was making it's debut to the world... :cur_sonic:
Although i still had the knack to play console at home, titles like Daytona USA, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 and The King of Fighters '95 whispered in my ear sweet music and kept me hooked to arcades. The addiction wasn't cured in fact it got worse. :lol:
My hunger for arcade rooms started to fade when my father bought the first PC in 1997. (P200mmx, S3 Virge FTW) :gravedigging:

I'm still fascinated with the retro game scene, it brings me good memories. I kept my Megadrive, a pristine condition Sega Dreamcast and a Playstation 2 (Fat).

My apologies for the long introduction, i'll be lurking the forums quietly... :-P

I think here in Brazil was 16 or 18 too, but i dont think this law exist anymore

In Brazil, gun shooting games are only allowed for 18 years old or more. There's usually a small area on arcades where these kind of games are put together.

Still, it's just a stupid law. Kids can't play, but can watch. :rolleyes:

Yes, the law stated that coin operated games based on skill would have to be restricted by age. I do remember that arcade operators circumvented that law by installing timer in the machines, after 100 seconds play the machine would reset itself, strange but true.

Fighting games too. I remember I had a tough time playing KOF '97 at the arcades since I was 12 at the time. I had to play in botequins (Brazilians will understand this) because official Arcade Centers would not allow me in.

Actualy nowadays most arcade machines are beeing destroyed because its actualy ilegal to have then in small establishments like, cafes and such, they are only allowed in real arcades. now, those establishments have computers that work on timers like 50c for 10 min. and have games like Fifa, PES, and mame roms. yeah the irony
