Everdrive 64 NES emulator

Ok, I'm finally getting around to play NES games on my Everdrive 64 and I'm having a problem. I went to krikzz.com and got the emulator file. emu.nes. I read somewhere to rename it nes.emu.

I have a MACbook pro so someone correct me as to what I'm not understanding. But I clicked the file in Finder and renamed it "nes.emu" and it shows that renaming on screen just fine.

But when I turn on the N64, the file is named "nes.emu.nes" on the TV screen. And sure enough, when I select an nes game, like Super Mario/Duck Hunt, or Duck Tales, it says "emulator not found". Is there some special way I have to rename the file??


Also, I never paid attention to the forums but I think there is a new OS for November of 2011. Should I go ahead and update no matter if I bought my Everdrive 64 from the first batch, or if it's a later made one. Seems like a stupid question, but I'm paranoid.

Shouldn't have to rename anything to use the NES emulator. I just copied the file to my SD card in the ED64 folder, works fine.

I'm sure if you put the newest OS on and it messes things up, you can just put an older one on and it'll work fine.

The reason it's named like that is because you changed the name of the file, not the extension of the file type.

From what I've gathered, and backed up from the guy's post above, you shouldn't need to rename it.

not need to rename, just copy emulator to sd. new os always better than old, and does not matter how old your cart

Your computer is hiding the full name from you. Either don't rename or rename it to just ' emu '. Then on the card it would actually be emu.nes as it should be.

thanks it works now. Some games won't work though because it says something about not an iNES file or something.

The emulator is not very good. This emulator was written by someone else a long while ago I believe. It was not made by KRIKzz.

Unfortunately alot of people don't understand that he did not make the emulators. And they assume that these emulators are somehow new and related to the EverDrive when they are not and originally came out years back for use on copiers like the Z64.

Sounds reasonable to me! That being said, are there any recommended emulators out there. or is the one included probably the best one available?

On a Mac by default it shows file types and change them. Only on a pc do you need to change your settings to show full file type. Emulator works good for me. Love playing earthbound and bubble bobble 2, and of course rc pro am 2 (my favorite game... I have a CIB copy of it aswell)

The included one is probably the only one available. N64 homebrew was never very big. Largely in part to the devices to run homebrew were very expensive and emulation was not very accurate.

One question: are save games supported in the NES emulator for the ED64? No saves where made by Zelda for example....

Yes earthbound saves for me. Saves to controller pak
