Dreamcast stopped reading games

My DC stopped reading games. Disc read error. I went to just clean it and the lens seems a little loose. Is this normal?

I have a DC that does not read discs any more and it's CD lens was loose, so probably :crying:

As in it bounces up and down slightly? Very normal as the lens is typically suspended in a fashion allowing it to be moved up/down so it can focus.

Not sure of the exact mechanism.

It stoped reading retail games? CR-R games?
Do you use CD-R games very often?

The lens just wiggles a little bit. I thought there might be a small shock in there for movement.

I play mostly retail games. I did play one cd-r for about 100 hours or so.

It could jsut be that the laser is dying, every laser lens I've ever seen wiggles a bit.

I read somewhere that sometimes they just need to be adjusted.

i had the same problem, insert a gaming disc and let the dreamcast load the game disc for a while. my dc works fine after that procedure. :)

I've never been able to make that laser adjsutment work, I think i'm just a bit too clumbsy to do it right. Worth a try though.
