360 promotional copies

Can somebody please tell me what these are.
On the net there is al this talk about there protos etc.(what i think is BS)
But what are they? there are way too many to be press only.
Are they try outs for shops or what?

And are there any copies known that are different?

They're copies that shops get to put out early, they arent rare so dont get a higher value, if you type 'xbox 360 promos' in eBay, you should find some there for about the value of the retail.

There are specific disks for them, there are kiosk discs that are, of course, used at kiosks to show off / demo the game, can be played on a retail 360. Then the reviewers review the game on a review/preview disc sent out directly from the developers, a developer 360 is needed to play it (You can use a JTAG, but most reviewers have a review kit that can play the disc).
