I've managed to aquire a Toyota branded Game Boy. It hasn't arrived in the post yet, hence no photos, but I'm curious if anybody can shed any light on it.
Google brings up very little apart from the fact that it exsists and most sources claim it's a Game Boy Pocket. However, this one I have purchased is an original Game Boy.
Seems that it was given away with new Toyota vehciles in Japan in 1992.
Any additional information would be appriciated. I assume it's pretty rare given the lack of easy to find information.

There's a picture right there of one. It's all in French though so unless anyone can translate, no more info, yet.

Here is a rare model of Game Boy pocket, since it is a promo-commercial version distributed exclusively in Japan in the late 90s, to a limited number of customers of the Toyota car company.
This model obviously very popular with collectors, we see very rarely go on sale.
I had the chance to acquire it through a member of the forum "Limited Edition".
A dedicated box "Toyota" is, but unfortunately I do not have.

That exists?
Also, I wish the Gameboy had more than just that tiny Toyota logo, was hoping for a unique color. (just noticed that you said yours wasn't a gameboy pocket version, so it prolly wont be see-through.)
& NonShinyGoose, your avatar is the cutest picture of Sonic I've ever seen! :love2: :-)

For some reason I was expecting it to be bright red with a toyota logo slapped right in the middle...

That's what I was hoping it would be. LE consoles with a tiny logo (and thats it) are the worst.
That exists?

There's also a Samsung Saturn and the Hyundai GameBoy/NES (Comboy & Mini Comboy).

That's better than the Toyota Dreamcast. All that one had was a sticker. At least this one has "Toyota" actually printed on the device.

I asked the seller if they could remember where it came from. Their reply was "Japan".
It also came with a few games, a mixture of Japanese and US carts. I doubt it was sold/given away in this case.

Gotta admit, when I first saw this topic, I thought it'd actually be made by Toyota, like all those consoles made by other manufacturers: Hi-Saturn, V-Saturn, Panasonic Q etc. :-)

Quite a curious little item isn't it.
Because of the way they were given out with Toyota vehicles, I doubt many of them even have their boxes still.

Nice yeah but just a small red logo on a normal GB, that's it?
Now you can 4WD and play Tetris AT THE SAME TIME! -_-

That's pretty cool, but I think I like the GB Pocket one more. Whereas the logo on the original GB looks like it was just smacked on there, the GB Pocket one seems to sort of fit the design of the device. The GB Pocket is also a lot more playable (and pocketable) than the original GB.
That said, I'd love to own either of them.

I think the reason there's always lots of different color & LTD edition gameboys, is because that way, there's ones to suit different kinds of personalities. I think it worked, sales figures don't lie.

I hate to sound rude, but I think we can all agree that's pretty obvious. (for all things, not just Gameboys)
I didn't buy that sexy green N64 controller for nothing dammit!

It isn't too obvious, otherwise every company would do it for every device. Look at the iPhone 4 - it comes in 2 colors: black and white. For a long time it only came in black.

I didn't just mean electronics. Everybody has favorite color, or even if its not a favorite, just the way a certain color looks on certain things.
& Iphone? Ha, do they really even need other colors when they are selling them like hotcakes? That makes me wonder about the PS3, since I haven't heard anything about it besides the obvious huge stories, does that thing have any other colors then black yet? All I have seen at peoples houses.

Japan got white and silver, ignoring the special editions.

I guess it depends on the market.
Anything by Apple doesn't count, all their customers have OCD and like things to be black or white.
Now that I think about it seriously, apart from the ipod nano and shuffle, I can't think of many coloured Apple products. It makes sense that those two products should be coloured, after all, anyone who actually listens to music properly buys a classic, especially considering it's better value for money.
I digress. Maybe I should be in marketing?

It's all the black and white stuff that makes our colored collections really pop.

Yeah, that's the one.
Sorry, I've been up for too long and should probably go to sleep.

Well, actually Apple did have several different colored versions of the original iMac. I have the greenish one (forget what it's called).
Also, I can take a stab at the reasoning behind this trend. If you make many different colors of a product, it's almost like you're selling several different products. Because of people's tastes, certain colors would get as many customers. But it's hard to predict exactly what the trend will be, and you have to produce a certain amount of each color. So that means that you'll probably be producing more units than people will actually buy, so you'll lose money. Of course, it's not that black and white (pun intended), but I think that's the general idea.
