Not convinced this is a real hack. Sprites and palettes like that don't seem possible on the hardware. Not using the Sonic engine anyway.

Looks legit to me for a few reasons I can't quite pin down, but the palette does seem modified across the board for yellow instead of blue.

Looks bizarre to see Pikachu clawing his way across the stage like an over-caffeinated mole, even weirder to see him do it backwards.

It's real, the person who made it posted about it on the Sonic Retro boards some time ago. Picachu barely uses many colors, probably not a full 16 colors, so I don't see what looks so difficult for the Genesis here. If you want proof(have to be a registered member though I think)...
