Ok, I'm starting it and will be updating this first post with information about which version of games you need to work 100% on the ED64.

Common problem is save in ED64 with Flashram games.
Most of this games had been cracked by LaC to work on some old copiers.

If you know where to find those roms, let us know and I'll update this post.

Here is a list of US games and which kind of save those games use:

LIST OF SAVE TYPE OF EACH GAME (www.elitendo.com/n64/usa_boot_save_list.html)

I found some of the patches, but is there a tutorial on patching correctly for the Everdrive?

Thanks for the work Ladoma :)

A guy made a statement
here (http://64dd.net/modules/hardware/index.php?system=n64&cat=backup)
about flashram saves.

"LaC made a series of cracks for FlashRAM games in particular to save to SRAM instead."
This is the second place I look into and read the same thing.
I've download the entire dextrose crack folder only getting what people already have.

So, anyone with those cracks from LaC ?

How to appy APS patches to a N64 rom

1) Download, extract and install WinAPS (http://n64.icequake.net/mirror/www.dextrose.com/files/n64/ips_tools/WinAPS1.0a.zip)
2) Download, extract and install WinAPS 1.1 Update (http://n64.icequake.net/mirror/www.dextrose.com/files/n64/ips_tools/WinAPS1.1.zip)
3) Download, extract and copy WinApsExeFix (http://n64.icequake.net/mirror/www.dextrose.com/files/n64/ips_tools/WinApsExeFix.zip) to WinAPS folder
4) Start WinAps.exe

http://img6.imagebanana.com/img/huqbm02o/winaps1.JPG

5) Browse to the directory where the extracted APS file and the corresponding N64 rom are
6) Select both in WinAPS

http://img7.imagebanana.com/img/wb0wjpnh/winaps2.JPG

7) Be sure the crc's match
8) Click "Patch Rom"
9a) Profit =)
9b) Or not :( In this case just use: Legend of Zelda, The - Majora's Mask (E) (M4) [f1].z64
Which is a prepatched version.

Now that I have ED64, I can confirm the next version of GE:X will work perfectly on ED64!

It seems the installers don't like Win7-64 bit for me anyhow...

No luck for me getting Jet Force for me to work? :(

Either install Windows XP in VMWare or use "Jet Force Gemini (E) (M4) [f1].z64" or "Jet Force Gemini (U) [f1].z64" which have the patches already applied.

Hi

I have a NTSC JAP N64. I've tried the Megaman 64 (JU) (!) from GoodTools, but it does freeze once I defeat the first boss. So, I searched and found out that Megaman 64 is one of those games that does not work because of the unsupported save type.
So, I've tried the Megaman 64 (U) (t1) (f1) but it does the same thing. I thought this fixed version would work, but it does the same as the (!) version...
Any idea? Does someone has the same problem?
Thanks in advance

Only working cracked flashram games with working saving are only jet force gemini and majoras mask others may work but saving not... Correct me if i am wrong?!

This one works fine, but it hangs later, when you defeat the first boss... Maybe that's when there's a save on the original cart...

40 Winks:

I was having trouble running this game on my system: NTSC N64 (Jap), NTSC ED64, UK TV(PAL, but NTSC compatible).

The game booted fine, but ran in Black & white/grayscale, even after using the Zoinkity region hack, and despite having a PAL TV.

Finally, after a few days, I have solved this problem. For anyone else who has had this issue, the solution is below.

Download this utility, Einstein II N64 Rom Renamer. (Link : http://www.romhacking.net/utils/791/)

First, use the header editor (under 'Tools') to change the game's country to an NTSC country (I used E; "USA NTSC", but I guess A; "USA & Japan NTSC", or J; Japan NTSC would work just as well). Save the changes. Incidentally, if you try and boot this ROM it now is in colour, but displays the "This game can not be played on this system" message.

Patch this version of the ROM with Zoinkity IPS hack (Link : http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/539/). I used this IPS patcher utility, IPS XP 111 (link : http://www.romhacking.net/utils/13/)

The patched version will now run, on an NTSC N64 and NTSC ED64, in full colour. Sound is a little crackly in places (e.g. popping sounds in the first curscene), similar to a PAL system running an NTSC ROM, but otherwise, it's all good stuff.

This may not be a common problem, but hopefully this information will help someone out.

I tried to download the patch files but it says the CRC check fails in all of them.

I updated the 40 Winks NTSC crack to set the region code. It isn't required by an N64 (which is why the game ran fine on my v64jr) but the Everdrive tends to be pickier about such things.
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?5i4oybbh2v8pziy

Should note that any SRAM-patched FLASHram game has one major drawback. The save file is half the size (or less?) so I'd stick to just save slot one if I were you.
If you do need to alter a FLASH game to an SRAM one, the way you go about it is to look for instances setting PI BSD domain 2 values. The usual SRAM settings are:
Latency 0x5
Pulse Width 0xC
Page Size 0xD
Release Duration 0x2
Different FLASHram games use different settings, which is why loading/saving FLASH was always such a problem in the early days and there wasn't a generic tool for all carts. Otherwise, FLASH and SRAM are both written to A8000000.

whatever you guys done to 40 winks now makes the game run in colour on my usa n64 and hd tv. no messing with paladin and other ips patches worked so far for 40 winks or other games. is there any poissibility of fixing a few other pal exclusive games with this method so we can play in colour. so far the list is

air boarder 64. - there is a jap version but a patched pal version would be better.
centre court tennis. - once again there is a jap version called let's smash tennis so same as the above.
f-1 racing championship.
f-1 world grand prix II.
premier manager 64.
rakugakids. - once again a jap version but would be way muchbetter to play fixed pal version in colour.

most of thses game have so called ntsc fixes but they don't work in colour on my usa 64 and everdrive 64 with my hd tv. the fact that 40 winks has been fixed and now runs in colour leads me to believe that these others could be fixed just the same.
i don't know how hard or time consuming it would be to fix these games display. even a tutorial of what steps to follow and what tools to use would be cool. fixes would be awesome. the ed64 is a great product. shame about the pal-ntsc display on my hd tv. these games run in colour on my old sony tv but i would rather play them all on my large plasma if possible. besides i hate moving my consoles around from one tv to another :(
cheers

been messing a bit with the rom renamer tool and some patched games. some patched games that were still in black and white on my setup are now in colour after changing the rom to e: USA (NTSC) with rom renamer but it don't work for all games unfortunatly. as of now the only 2 games i cant get working in colour are

premier manager 64
f-1 racing championship

there is the michael owen world league soccer game aswell but thats the same game as mia hamm soccer apparently.

any assistence would be awesome :)

40 Winks was already designed with NTSC, PAL, and MPAL support (except the audio, which will still pop occationally) but was artificially region locked by testing the TV type returned by the console versus the known value for PAL.

I don't know why the ED64 behaves the way it does with region code checks honestly. If we could get a response from the dev it would really help to know what kind of patching is necessary. Suffice it to say it is definately reading the internal region ID itself and this, occationally, will cause problems with out-of-region compatability.

There's a few games coded like 40 Winks, pretty much all at the end of the N64 lifecycle. If you're lucky some of these may also follow the same scheme and PAL->NTSC is a negligable change. Others may force a specific mode but permit you to force a different one. Otherwise, you'll have to change the VI settings loaded at boot and any VI settings tables drawn from at runtime. To a degree that's on a game-by-game basis--at least specific offsets. A few, like Rush 2049, can be a real pain though.

One other thing: try changing the video mode setting in ED64's options from 'autodetected' to the region you want.

i manged to get the ntsc brazil version of f1 racing championship so the only game left that wont play in colour on my plasma is premier manager 64. tried all sorts pf fixes with no luck. i don't think it's an everdrive issue at all tbh. it's more to do with compatible tv's, all these games play in colour on my old style sony tv with just the region fix. seems like there is need for further display fixes to work with some tv's but i don't now the technical stuff. i presume pal games would be in b&w on my plasma tv using my old doctor v64 copier just never tried it, i always thought that the old ntsc patches i applied to the roms over ten years ago fixed every aspect of pal to ntsc, in no way did i consider that the compatibility of my sony trinatron tv was helping matters colour wise.
if anyone here knows a little about cracking this problem with premier manager 64 on plasma tv and wouldnt mind wasting some time making a fix it would be awesome for me to have complete set of games running on my plasma (i'm a completist lol). bearing in mind that both the old patches and f1 and f2 100% prepatched roms still display b&w on my plasma.

I tried to get 40 Winks to run with your crack, but it will not work on my ED64. I tried your latest crack and the older one. I'm guessing something changed in the ED64's latest OS because the video still plays like it is PAL.
First before trying the latest I tried everything as Wiggly had (not knowing there was an updated crack because I did not read more post) but that did not work.
Then I read more. I applied the latest crack, but that did not work either, as it was in PAL video.
I then used the N64ROMRenamer on the already cracked rom and changed the country to, USA, NTSC, through the header editor. When I loaded it this time I only got a black screen :/
I've tried Using the N64ROMRenamer before and after patching the rom, I have my video settings on my ED64 set to NTSC, if it is the new OS in the ED64 I don't want to load a different OS every time I want to play 40 Winks.

edited:
I've tried OS's 1.28, 1.27, 1.26. It's clearly not the OS, I'm starting to think it's the rom I have. The ones from Theisozone, and emuparadise seem to be the same one, I've tried them both.
Someone says they have the rom working on ED64 and that they are going to share the rom with me though.
I tried everything to the T when trying to do what Wiggly did, right down to what programs he used to apply the crack and everything, so it must have been the rom. I couldn't say because I could not find a different one, just the same rom from different sources.
