View Full Version : NGF Posterity Archives
Not an NGF question and answer thread.
Just a thread to view and discuss the various neogeo history, collectibles, and rarities. Not just a cartridge or cd photo thread, but more for the obscure items that some people may have never seen before.
We'll also add some NGF History photos as well.
We'll be adding lots of new photos of various arts and superfreak items.

Also photos of game proofs, negatives, positives, and various one of a kind collectors items.

I think we do have some character sketches for Last Blade. As for MotW2, we have nothing. All we ever saw of that game was some video at one of the game shows in tokyo.
I'll try to take/upload some photos of Last Blade arts soon.

art of picture N°2, 3 et 4 come from Samurai Spirit RPG
Great stuff, ever care to sell it let me know.
Actually, some have been sold.
We sold one of the Ninja Master's original art sketches for $3000, one for $1700 (seen in the video). Some other arts range in price according to each individual piece. Some could go for a hew hundred dollars to well over a few thousand dollars each.
For example, I've been offered $6000 for one of my Shock Troopers original hand drawn colored character art, and I refused.
First of all, I wouldn't want to break up the set. Secondly, $6000 is much too low for such a truly original and one of a kind piece or art.
(some video games sell for $5000-$20,000 and have multiple copies)
I would consider selling my Shock Troopers art as a set for $25,000.00 if the collector was serious and had all the funds.
My Shock Troopers:2nd Squad original hand drawn character art/framed
(used in magazines, insert, manual, flyers, and leaflets)
(matted/acid free archival mounting/framed with UV filtered glass)
http://www.neogeofreak.com/SuperFreak/shockartf.jpg
I'm always open to offers from interested collectors.
For a serious collector, I would possibly consider a payment arrangement (not exceeding 6 months)
art of picture N°2, 3 et 4 come from Samurai Spirit RPG
Possibly. But I have them in my folders as part of the Hyper SS64 series.
Can you help out to make sure we have them properly listed? Maybe provide some photos from magazines/mooks. Thanks.

Thank you for showing me where the arts were used. I'm so happy to see this!!
I love the final version of the character with the ball & chain. Very nice to be able to see the finished arts and see the sketches in the mooks. Does the mook show more sketches because I think I may have every single sketch for that issue. This is amazing and I appreciate your help.
J'ai peut-être tous les art pour ce magazine. C'est incroyable!

Wow absolutely love the sketch's thanks for sharing. Always been a fan of SNK and their art style, especially in the AoF, FF, KOF and Last blade games.
Dion if you can remember anything from the video of the Mark of the Wolves sequel I'd love to hear it. Defiantly my favourite SNK fighter (well its actually tied with KoF 98 for first) and I would love to hear anything you might know about the cancelled sequel.
Mitch, I've never seen that NGW card. Thanks for sharing.

Having the arts and sketches is something very different in terms of collectibility. I've seen similar sketches from disney cartoons fetching 10s of thousands of dollars. Now I'm in no way comparing neogeo game sketches to disney sketches in terms of value or public interest. But I'm sure any person, especially any type of collector, will understand how incredibly unique these original drafts, sketches, and arts really are.
2000 JAMMA Show
I really don't remember much about MotW2. When Chris and myself saw it being shown in japan, we figured it would be released since it was from the popular Fatal Fury series, so neither of us payed much attention to it, nor did we take photos. They showed Ghostlop, Nightmare in the Dark, KoF2000, and MotW2. I took photos and concentrated on NitD cause we had originally heard of NitD 3-4 years earlier as a rumored title, but we never saw any photos, and we were used to seeing snk pass on games of that nature and genre.
I don't think anyone would have thought that NitD would be released and MotW2 would be shelved. But I guess stranger things have happened.
I've learned my lesson.... ALWAYS TAKE PHOTOS!!!!
.
No doubt they are unique and I'm sure any true SNK fan would be drooling looking at them. Thanks for sharing them
Shame you can't remember anything more about the game! Would have been really interesting to know more. Rock being one of my favourite characters SNK designed hasn't really appeared in many games after Mark of the Wolves (Or not many that come to mind) plus the older Terry was another favourite part of the game for me. Such a shame the sequel never happened! Yes always taking pictures is a must!

I understand that in terms of production that often they were more concerned with the box look than having one nice painting. It is easier to use the figures for multiple places this way and they were in the business of selling games not artwork. Still is too bad that the Shock Troopers cover is broken up into seperate pieces. It would have looked great as one piece.
Do you have any full size cover paintings with all the characters together like this?

FYI my money is on that 'bike being a modified Honda CBR900RR Fireblade. With a full tank of fuel and a rider on it you're looking at around 0.5 BHP / Kg. To put that into perspective that is about the same power to weight ratio as a Bugatti Veyron with fuel and a driver.
I've also been slacking on merginating as of late. I will resume when I have the time :P

I'm not so sure on that one but it is hard to tell from a picture. Is that on acetate? If so I'm guessing the black line was traced or transfered from the original sketch onto the acetate and then colored in.

So why didn't CD games feature the genre stripes?
The cds didn't feature genre stripes cause they all stated the genre on the spine, spine card, and manual: fighting, action, shooting, puzzle, sports, racing, variety.
The cds also included some funny descriptions:
battle action, super battle fighting, 3d shooting, 3d fighting, katana battle fighting, space shooting, to name a few.

Actually "Brazil" is the "ancient" form of the country name...
An language reform in the early 20th century changed to "Brasil" and also removed some letters from the alphabet. A few years ago they added the letters "Y" and "W" back but I still don't see people using them ...
Basically "Neo Geo do Brasil" is portuguese for "Brazilian Neo Geo company" (company is "implied" on that portuguese phrase by context as it means the name of an corporate entity...)
SNK had a great deal of success here in Brazil, even though they never bothered making games with portuguese language text.
Capcom did, but that's another story, for another thread ...

A lot of my MVS carts had the Portuguese language option and if you check the JPN only Samurai Spirits IV on the PSX I think that too as the option to change the ingame language to Portuguese. Or is it the Saturn version, may be both, can't be arsed checking but the option is there on many, many of the carts including too the home AES versions if you've a unibios upgrade chip installed.

Ah, didn't realise that. I've never owned a CD system, and the only time I've seen any of the games in real life was back in 1995.

I also have the entire rough proof of the actual mook before it went for final publishing.
A totally unique and very impressive collectible to see it firsthand.

So could i use this one for my site ? could i propose it ?
i didn't think it would interest anyone lol
I have hundreds and hundreds of brasilian magazine scanned available on my computer (I use the information they contain for my website: www.guardiana.net )
I have extracted some neo-geo adds when stumbled on them, I'll have a deeper look since you seem interested.
PS: I didn't do the scans myself, downloaded the stuff over the years from various ressources. feel free to use the scans as you want

I believe that only apply to KOF games, honestly.
KOF games like KOF98 to 2003 perhaps. But I can tell you for sure that Capcom had many more in portuguese. Just take games like the Brazilian Marvel Super Heroes and you will see the in between fights text is in portuguese (not very different from what you would see on the NEO games as just some text and the how to play would be translated...)

I have a question about the NGH ENGLISH KOF2000 printing plates..
Why are there *no* NGF markings on them..
Are there non-freaked English versions of NGH KOF 2k out there?
Are all forms of "US KOF2000" freaked NGF repros?..
All official KoF2000 English Edition cartridges were printed with the NGF backbox.
Look closely and you'll see the NGF backbox on the back of the insert and back of the manual.

Maybe you looked at a photo of the other plates:
Fatal Fury Special - Japanese

Mark of the Wolves - English

In this day and age, printing has become better and less expensive.
With all the counterfeit Metal Slugs, Turfmasters, Double Dragon, Kizuna Encounter, Pulstars, Quiz Chibis, etc... aes cartridges turning up, people have to be careful of sellers trying to reproducing many high dollar games, including the rare english KoF2000.
That is why we offer the KoF2000 verification program that gives the owners of the official version the Certificate of Authenticity, Certificate of Ownership, and 4 special matching holographic serial number stickers.

In the 161 in 1 mvs cartridge if you set the main language to portuguese almost every game present there that I've played has portuguese language.
Some of them only have the button explanation part in portuguese but they are there.
Besides, I remember playing metal slug in the arcades here as a kid and it was in portuguese.
Hope this piece of information helps.
