I found time to load pictures of my limited edition Dreamcast consoles on my webspace.
What's next ? I'll post pictures of Mazora and blue Biohazard STARS DC soon - just have to wait to get them delivered. I also bought a Sakura Wars and a second Sega Partners Dreamcast. Stay tuned for pictures.

Wow, that's awesome.
I've never seen someone with so many of them before, and so many super rare ones.
The only ones I don't see are the RX-78, Biohazard S.T.A.R.S., and the Divers (although I don't know much about collecting DC's, so I'm probably leaving some out).
Whuparse collection man.
That Sonic Dreamcast and ChuChu Rocket Dreamcast are awesome!

I added two further pictures: "Jet Set Radio" and "Resident Evil - Code Veronica" Dreamcast.
Both are PAL consoles and are officially licensed by SEGA - as they bear official trademarks on the front.
Like the ChuChuRocket DC made by the fine airbrush artist "T.Rachu" and limited to 5 pieces each. Both consoles were given away in special contest only and were not for sale.

There wer actually two unused Pearl's on YJ last week. Blue & Pink. THought about bidding, but went against it. Last thing I need is another console in a box. :)
Ground Zero

I saw the pearl pink just one day after i bought mine. The pink one on Yahoo had a damaged box - not very desirable for a really rare console.
The pearl pink DC is the only REALLY rare console of the color collection. The blue one is just uncommon, black and silver one easy to get.
GaijinPunch

You got numbers on the print runs? I'm pretty sure the Pink & Blue are the same... released same time, etc. By that time they came out though I was definitely not into console collecting... not that I really am now.

>>You got numbers on the print runs? I'm pretty sure the Pink & Blue are the same...

Print nums don't appear to run sequentially. I have two blue pearl DCs and they vary by 2000325 between them. My pink pearl is no where near the blue ones either. Might be different production lines had batches of nums and hence parallel production lines would generate different tho parallel sets of nums (although a given line might be sequential) - if you know what I mean.

You could only guess limitation of the Color Edition consoles - Sega gave out no numbers.
From my experience the pearl pink DC is one of the rarest LE Dreamcasts overall. I even saw Crystal Seaman DC's (500 pieces) twice as often as pearl pink. I guess there were 200-500 pieces made.
Pearl blue DC is not that rare - you'll spot at least 5x more pearl blue DC's than pearl pink.
GaijinPunch
04-10-2005, 02:27 PM
Been watching a while... I've seen 2 blues, 1 pink, and I think 2 silvers. Then again, I only watch one place. I also think due to the novelty (and time it was released) the Crystal Seamen went into some hands of not so hardcore collectors whereas the other colors did. You had to go pretty far out of your way to get any other LE DC.

It might as well be possible that nearly all pearl pink DC's went into hands of japanese women.
If jap. women are into collecting consoles like european women are in collecting shoes it is indeed a special day if you are able to sight a pearl pink DC.
Which dreamcast models are considered to be the rarest?
Is it possible to make a list from the rarest to the less rare?
I know it has already been asked many times before but a clear list would help for sure.

I think pearl blue & pink are the same, lot of japanese retaillers buy them for the same price.
For the "sega of europe" L.E., its not for all europe, never heard about in France, Spain... Any proof of the contest/donation anywhere out of germany or nl ?
Only the sonic seems to be for "all" europe due to the (official) contest ?
Ground Zero

@Ter: It's impossible to make a complete list because there were so many LE mini-releases in Japan, e.g. in Famitsu contests.
If it comes up to the more "common" limited edition Dreamcasts the jap. Top 3 are: Custom 78 (78+1 pc.), blue Biohazard S.T.A.R.S. (200+1 pc.) and Mazora (people talk about 500 pc.- i think it's much rarer).
The only real 100% PAL collectors console is the Sonic 10th. anniversary edition DC, signed by Yuji Naka (50 pc.).
@akumajo: I didn't even know if every one of these airbrush consoles got a release as prize of a contest. I may also be that they just found their way out of Sega departments somehow.
It may be possible that they were just used by Sega of Germany.
Forget about NL. There's a guy from the netherlands who has a Resident Evil - Code Veronica DC which is fake. At least it's not made by T.Rachu and it looks kind of shit compared to the one made by T.Rachu!

!
If we narrow the topic to the jap limited edition cs,from what I gathered mazora, custom 78 and stars as you explained are the most wanted ones.
Now,it would be very interesting for me to know at least some guidelines about the prices.
If the mazora is the rarest, how much is the fair amount to pay to get one?1000 euros,2000 euros or more?
And how much for DC stars(blue) or custom78 or patners?
Infact,I would like to get informed about right market values for these very cool machines.
Also,I heard about a signed mazora..is it the rarest of them all or the rarest are the patners dcs(since from what I have read in the past it seems that the custom78 is not always the rarest dc...)
Ground Zero
04-14-2005, 04:57 AM
Collectors prices for mint consoles are approx. 1500.- Euro for a Mazora, 1400.- Euro for a STARS and 1750.- Euro for a Custom 78.
A signed Mazora will probably cost you a little bit more than 1500.- Euro.
I'm not sure about the Partners. I've seen more Mazoras, Customs and STARS than Partners DC but some high-level collectors claim it's not that extremely rare. I don't know a price because i never sold one and never got the option to buy one from a collector.
If you're lucky to get one in japan it's much cheaper - you'll get non-mint consoles there for 50-75% of that prices.
Of course there are rarer DC's like the golden Pro Yakyuu Team Edition Dreamcast.
A reliable source once offered me one of those for 7000.- Euro - it's limited to 5 pc.
One of those prototype Mazoras would also be a GREAT collectors item.
Thanks a lot for the very helpful reply.
I used to read that mazora is more rare even then custom 78 and that sounded weird to me but maybe it is because it was first le made and very charming model.
Also, what is in detail a signed mazora?
Is it the rarest of the "normal"LE dcs, even more than custom like I have read?

First time I see the toyota one.
Where did you get it?
Ground Zero

@Ter: There were definately less Custom DC's made than Mazora LE.
However the Custom DC looks plain shit compared to a Mazora - that's why it switches hands much more often and thus is less harder to find than a Mazora DC.
A signed/normal Mazora is not rarer but harder to get than a Custom 78.
Mazora DC is said to be limited to 500pc. and below 200pc. should be signed by (i don't know for sure) "Yu Suzuki"(?) at a motorace event in Japan.
@cyberguile: Toyota DC's were sold in stores of Toyota only. It's not really a limited edition but as it became very hard to find a unit that still bears the yellow sticker it's something special and rare. I got it in Japan - for 1000 Yen. :-)

Then it seems to me that mazora dreamcasts should have more high value than custom 78s,since they are more in high demand and more sought after.
I searched all info i have seen about this model and I remember one mazora sold for $2500 on Ebay 2 yeras ago or so.
I checked about the mazora dc,signed one,and it seems it was signed by a famous motorcycle rider but seems to be very very hard to buy one of those.
Let me know your opinion since I made a search and found this info today.

uhm.. there are more s.t.a.r.s than 200+1 . atleast 5 were given away by a japanese dc magazin ( don`t know wich one it was , thou). anyway, these units come without ID no. !
odd isn`t it ?
by the way , a signed Mazora (mint) will cost alot more than 1500euro , if you ask me :)

thats correct , as long as you speak about "common" DC systems.

@Your Tom: A seller we both know offered me his signed Mazora for 1400.- Euro a year ago. I don't think that prices changed much.
But i also said that you've to expect some more than 1500.- Euro for a signed one.
Don't overerstimate those Bioahazard DC's whithout sign - you could easily rip the sticker off a "regular" console.

My main pont was infact people judge the rarity by production numbers but those numbers don't say it all or don't say it all CORRECTLY.
Infact, more pieces could be out there and the only real good factor to judge seems to me to be the REAL chance to buy them on the market.
many serious dc collectors had or have the chance to buy a custom 78 and maybe never got the chance to buy a signed mazora, that makes the value higher for sure in my opinion.
Other problem for sure would be to avoid FAKES:a custom78 is so plain made that could be easily duplicated.

NoI'm from Switzerland.
I like a lot your dc system collection and was thinking about putting some money into dc collecting but it seems to me it is very risky.
I like the mazora but it is pricey and hard to find(since it seems ot me the most beautiful system IF actually changes color***you can confirm me that since you are lucky and have one)) since it is the first LE system released(and from a colector's point of view that is just a big plus).
I would have bought for sure the signed mazora for 1400 euros if I had known time ago,now I'm sure my money would have doubled.
But I do reckon I have seen for sale at least 2 or 3 customs 78 like you explained me,since it is not beautiful at all.

A Mazora really changes the color if inspected in sunlight from different angels. One of the coolest consoles ever - the pearl blue and pearl pink DC also look awesome.
It's hard to get all of the "common" LE Dreamcast systems. But if you're lucky you could get them cheap in Japan. I paid only 700.- Euro for Mazora and STARS each.

Hey Ground Zero, what was it you said about the red bio hazard not having a number? Something about a re-release. I don't think mine has a number and it always made me wonder. There are both red and blue Biohazard consoles without number on the back.
I heard of 50 red "Claire" systems that were sold by D-Direct - those units came with the jap. Biohazard - Code Veronica "perfect" edition game (how is it called in japanese - "kanzenban" ?) instead of the regular one in the "red case".
There were also some blue Biohazard Dreamcast given in contests - those had no numbers but the "red case" disk. Don't know how much but i expect something around 20 units without numbers.
The first release Regulation #7 Dreamcast comes with a special Regualtion #7 GD (pachinko games) and a box that includes massage-materials (no joke!). Some early units were also equipped with a black BBA.

A little side note on the S.T.A.R.S - dreamcast:
There was actually a package which contained both the Claire and the S.T.A.R.S - Dreamcast with matching controllers, VMUs and the Game: RE:CV as some kind of special edition version (looked like it was packed in red leather or something like that), it was offered through an import shop some years ago for 600 US$. (gamechoice, at that time they also had the seaman DCs, Iīve often seen a Mazora for sale there and several other versions, donīt forget the Sakura Wars limited with fitting VMU).
At that time I thought the price was ridiculous since the DC was sold in Germany for about 100 or less at that time, if only I had raked my cash together and bought that damn set :smt042
Btw, do you own the complete Hello Kitty packages? I.e., with fitting clear colored mouse and keyboard?

I'm sure it was just a Biohazard bundle that was sold at GameChoice. Biohazard consoles were sold seperately and it was supposed that you'd never know which console you got before opening it. Of course HongKong ripp-off shops opened boxes and sold the blue one for ridiculous amounts.
I've both Hello Kitty Dreamcasts complete but there's no mouse with the units. It's "just" a blue/pink console with color-matching keyboard, joypad and VMS.

D-Direct gave away 50 special red Biohazard units approx. one year after the regular sale. These console also have no sticker on their back and were bundled with the Code Veronica Kanzenban version instead of the red LE version of the game.
For the Regulation 7 DC there was a really rare first release and a MUCH larger second release. The first-release version had an extra gadget box with massage materials + a special R7 GD with pachinko games on it. Some of the first-release units are also equipped with a black BBA.

Hey Ground __asm__(xor r7,r7,r7)! ;-) Awesome collection you got there!! Very very cool!
For some reason I find the R7 mysterious and interesting. Barry Ling's pages (www.sdk-team.com) mentions that the R7 was released in the beginning of 2001, and then there was a second batch in September 2001. I have also read that the R7s sold through D-Direct were shipped with a black BBA pre-installed and that this batch was limited to 500 pcs.
Can you confirm this? I have actually never seen a R7 BBA.

Excellent collection , and the first time I have seen the Toyota release . Thanks..
As for the Maziora (or Mazyora Hepburn / Kunrei differences ) it was signed by a famous Japanese GP racer Tadahiko Taira , who's team Taira Racing were sponsored by Maziora paint at the time.
I was lucky to obtain 002/500 from a collector in Japan. The console was untouched , as new and came with documentation from Taira Racing and Tadahiko Taira's signature.Sadly I was offered a ridiculously large sum for the console , had a moment of weakness and sold it to a collector in the US .
Another sad point is a hardrive contaning around a gb worth of pictures recently died on me. And within these albums were several pictures of the Maziora .Still I think I Bert Hardy has a few .
Good luck with the collection... (^^)V

Hi ,
As it was longtime ago the seller's name is difficult to remember , although Eastarland does not sound familiar.
I do recall the collector had some kind of car franchise in the US if that helps. And I also recall the seller already owning one Maziora machine , which he gave to his nephew to play on .

I think that signed Maziora #2 is still in the hands of an italian collector. His name is Simone.
I've also picture of your (once) unit somewhere on my HD.
A Sonic 10th.anniversary edition DC should cost you at least 1000.- Euro. From my experience it's one of the hardest to get Dreamcast consoles. I only know of 3 units for sale during the last years.

My Sonic DC is not for trade anymore. I'm just trying to sell Partners, Toyota, CSK-Edition and Trial DC at the moment to afford a Custom 78 DC and finish my collection.

Yes I know Simone , I've spoken to him on the phone a few times in the past. He purchased a Navi Saturn from me at the time but was also ask about the Maziora.
Glad Simone got the unit in the end , at least the Maziora is in safe hands.

Did the 150,000 yen one on YJ get any bids? It didn't that I saw, wondering if it sold outside of YJ... and perhaps why nobody bid. O_o

There were Custom + Maziora DC at once on Yahoo some weeks ago.
The Custom went out without bid of 150.000 Yen first because everyone was bidding on Maziora DC (including me). The Maziora went high - i think above 200.000 Yen and then everyone went at the Custom DC which also sold for >200.000 Yen.
I was outbid in both auctions. I'm a bit angry i didn't went for the Custom DC the first time. I would be finished with my collection then. Grrrr!
I think that Neo from DCH got it. No clue who took the Maziora, it was a Rinkya bidder if im remember right.
Yahoo prices for the rare units are actually high due to foreign biddders. The last STARS DC sold for >200.000 Yen also. I only spent 200.000 Yen to got both Maziora and STARS Dreamcast from my Tokyo dealer.

So now you understand my hate for rinkya (etc), and why I voiced so in the other thread I assume? I hate to sound greedy, but they can really fuck up some good auctions. It was such a haven 5 years ago.
