i thinking about some small features for everdrive md, but cpld chip resources used on 99%, so i thinking about some "optimisation" by SSF2 support annihilation.
i want to know, SSF2 support are really important?

I can't vote until I know what function you'll imprement as a trade-off for SSF2.
So can you give more details about these new features?

return to menu by joypad keys combination for example, more fast flashing, may be some else

I don't personally play SSF2 on the genesis, as I can play it on SNES. But since people will be able to choose if they want support or not (by flashing appropriate fw/os), I don't see a problem removing it.

I'd like to see it stay personally. Higher compatibility is always better than speed and other features.

Agreed. It's one of the games I am getting an Everdrive for also. I had it as a kid and would be kinda narked if support went away.

I don't own a unit, but it doesn't sound like a good trade. SSF2 is a rather major title and to exclude it just for "reset back to menu" or "Faster Flashing" would be a shame.
Mainly because reset back to menu and faster flashing (as an example) are all luxuries which just make things slightly easier for the user. Moreover, they are things you usually do only once in a long while.
On the other hand, loosing compatibility with a game has no recourse. I mean, you can't just "wait a little longer" like you can with slower flashing. You just can't play the game period.

Resetting back with buttons combination sounds very interesting.
I won't have to get out of my armchair ever again. LOL

I'm interested on learning, if possible, of the technical reason why support for SSF2 excludes the possibility to do that. From my lack of knowledge, it seems rather curious.

altera mx2 cpld used on 99%, so i can't put new hardware features, but if i will remove SSF2 mapper from cpld, then i will take some free resources

I would agree that it really depends on what features would take the place of the SSF2 mapper. On the one hand reducing compatibility at all seems bad, but we are literally talking about 1 game which not rare or expensive. So I think if the features were good enough it might be fine. But I don't think that 'Return to Menu' or 'Faster Flashing' would be equal replacements for SSF2. What other features might be added if you had more CPLD space?
I personally think you should not trade off with compatibility, but I guess it depends on which kind of hardware feature you would like to add ?
EDIT: If it is the SOFT RESET combo feature that is discussed on Sega-16, I say don't bother with that crap and keep SSF2 compatibility. Out of curiosity, how expensive would it be to upgrade the cpld version for more features ?
Also, how much do you estimate the size taken by SSF2 mapper handling ? I don't know (I only emulated this feature in C, which I understand is very different from handling it on a chip) but maybe it can be optimized...

aprox 25% of chip used by SSF2 mapper
which features can be implemented? i response on this question once. may be some else in future

Krikzz , I don't think holding buttons for reset is a good idea anymore , I just discovered that some games such as Primal Rage need you to hold 3-4 buttons while doing D-pad motion to excecute Special moves and Fatality moves.

I personally do not play SSF2 on the MD so I won't argue if the support got dropped.
Also I think more room to put new feature in the Everdrive sounds interesting.
Is it not possible to make 2 versions of FW/OS so that the user can make the choice of either SSF2 or new feature?

I'm sure he would make Soft-Reset an option you could disable for just that reason.

Personally, I like SSF2 support, but would be OK if there were 2 versions of firmware, maybe with SSF2 & without SSF2 but new features.

I'd trade SSF2 support for real time save - any day ;)

Only problem is that real time save on real hardware is never going to be perfect and it's pretty likely it would not be compatible with a fair number of games.

Also on Everdrive the only memory large enough to hold a state is flash or the SD card... You'd have to think twice about saving/loading because it'd be less "real-time save" and more "minute-later save".

Gamers have gotten so soft nowadays with their saves and their lowered difficulty. Enjoy the genesis for what it is. Its an arcade like experience at home. Sometimes you will get far sometimes you wont and eventually you will master it and kick serious butt. Back in the day that was the definition of replayability.

I totally agree with @ceramicion. The old games were all about going as far as you could, dying then rinse and repeat until completion. The fact that when you die its 'GAME OVER' keeps you playing to see what the next level is like, and if you finally win then its a massive glory moment. That's just my opinion anyway.
Edit: Sorry for going off topic.

Ok ok this is off topic but I once was a hardcore console gamer growing up. and trust me I know the feeling of spending a whole Saturday trying finish sonic 2 or something ha, yeah games those days took a whole day to finish without saving or cheats.
These days I'm just too busy and I'm more of a casual gamer who just wants to finish a game asap and move on. With directorship and investment banking, I'm just too busy these days and sometimes I just want to fire up an old console game and play through it using saves (usually not cheats) asap see the ending and then that's my relief from work and stress ha. So yeah I do know and respect that games have gotten easier these days but when you're busy you just don't have the time to dedicate hours to it

@Bboydocument Good point. It was easy as a kid to spend days at a time playing video games lol. I too have a hard time finding the time to really get stuck into games.
Anyway games change with the times. I don't think games now are bad in anyway. In fact the save mechanics are great for modern games.
Note to self: Don't write the same word over and over in a post. (games)
which features can be implemented?
Action Replay / Game Genie codes support, real time save.

It's been done for the NES PowerPak:

Couldn't this be done for the EverDrive too, with a future OS update perhaps?

current version of everdirve has not enought memory for realtime saves, so it is impossible in any case

I don't like the game, but I think the SNES version is much better. If I had to play it, it would be in MAME. I'd love to see new or optimized Everdrive features.

either the md and the sf version of street fighter are crap looking at the original arcade version
so for me, it's not a loss
you want to look at those version only for nostalgic reason.
i can understand that.

I wouldn't want to loose compatibility for SF just to implement features that make the experience closer to an emulator.
SSF2 is a dirt cheap common title, long excelled by numerous versions on later consoles. I'd forget it. Easily found CIB well under $10 before postage anyway.
