So, some of us lucky buggers will be getting an Everdrive cart soon but it will be without a case. Getting a new case isn't a problem though. I already have a few 100 yen JPN MD games bought from Hard Off ready for gutting. But what about the label? Well, that's where this thread comes in. Let's make a few designs for others to print out. I'm going to make one for Japanese MD carts but a few other designs would be nice.

Hmm good idea.Thing is, will it fit in a case? The board seems too big to fit.

I think it'll fit in a normal megadrive case w/ a slot for the SD card cut out. At least Krikzzz page says so.

I used this one as a reference (only made it Everdrive, duh) http://eatonclublambs.com/images/overdrive_logo_ctqx.jpg and put it on the cartridge. Might upload a picture, it came out pretty nice, considering I suck big time drawing anything :P

I quite like these ones which were used for one of Krikzz's previous efforts.

here we go with a first and far from complete version of my cartridge cover.

The colours still need to be fixed and logos added and so on.

yakumo, warp the design so that on the curving part on a md cart, the hole for the sd slot matches the cart slot on the graphic?

I had the exact same thought! but the SD slot on the Everdrive is on the left, and the cartridge slot on the sticker would be on the right. You can see the SD slot position in relation to the casing in this sega-16 thread:-

Yakumo

Yeah, I had the idea of using the cartridge slot for the SD but as link83 pointed out the SD slot is to far over. I'll add another card slot graphic just for the SD. Like I said, it's far from finished. I still need to bump out the actual console image to give it a more 3D look live the 16 bit text.

Here you go. One Everdrive MD cartridge cover! The red areas are where you need to cut holes for the SD card and button. The ;abel is designed for use on Japanese Mega Drive carts and fits perfectly.

I finally finished my Ever Drive case today. Looks very nice if I do say so my self :)

Need to buy a new cheap Sunsoft game though for the case. The one I'm using is a bit damaged and dirty.

As you can see, the SD card is held nice and sung. No worrys about it sliding all over the case.

Anyone care for a PAL cover/label? I might give it a try as soon as I reinstall PS, I doubt I can make it half as cool as Yakumo's xD
Those sunsoft cases rock!

The Cartridge lable I made should fit on a PAL cart. You may need to trim the top a little though.

I finished my case for the Everdrive today. I used windjammer's label. I don't wanted to tinker with scissors and glue so I printed it on an old Inkjet floppy disk label paper. The floppy disk label is just a bit smaller than the label of a Mega Drive cartridge.

For the guys who are just poking holes for the CF card I'd suggest cutting a |---| shape where the slot is so you can just fold them under onto the insides. Would look a little better.

I see many US Genesis and EU Megadrive lables and case design for the Everdrive,
but I could not find any with Japanese Megadrive design,
so I made one myself.

I hope you like it
All character artwork except for Comix Zone,
was taken from actual scans of games popular in Japan that I have.
SD slot is customized by me so that it doesn't disturb the Megadrive design.
I put a new "Push in"/"Push out" SD slot in the back.

description:
1. Case Cover
-Front top: "Rent A Hero"
-Front bottom: "Comix Zone"
-Next to title: "Ristar"

-Spine: "Sonic the Hedgehog"

-Back top: Arlu and Lara from "Madoh Monogatari I"
-Back bottom: Red and Blue from "Gunstar Hero"
-Screenshot top: "After Burner II"
-Screenshot bottom: "Shinobi"
-Background art: SA-77 from MEGA-CD game "SILPHEED"

The comment in red "FOR MEGADRIVERS CUSTOM"
is taken from "Alien Soldier".
In green letters it says "We hope SEGA will come back" or similar.
In small gray letters it says "We don't need to blow breath at our carts any more!,
Everdrive will hold all the games that you ever wished in to one".
It is a famous fact in Japan that little kids blow at there carts to get them to work ;-)

2. Cart Lable
-Sonic and Tails from "Sonic the Hedgehog 2"
-Arlu from "Madoh Monogatari I"
-Tiki from "New Zealand Story"

Sorry my native language is Japanese, so my English is not so good.
Maybe my translations are not perfect,
but if someone likes this artwork I am happy :cur_sonic:

You can find A4 size stickers that you can print on, then cut manually with some paper cutter easily at some electronic stores.
At least that was the case for me in Japan.
Cutting was easy, I did it in 5 minutes :)

Yeah, thanks a lot for uploading your design. I really like it and it will blend in perfectly with my jpn-only MD-collection.

How did you change the SD slot? Did you take a picture of the board after the new slot was set up? Personally I would rather not fuck around with the PCB, so I'll probably leave it just like it is although your cart looks really nice now with the centered slot.

eugene19
11-11-2010, 07:53 PM
I'm glad you like the design :)
As for the SD slot, I didn't change anything on the PCB.
What I did is to make a sort of SD slot extension.

1. cut micro SD adapter in half.
2. solder the pins to cables where usually a micro SD card would be.
3. solder the other end of the cables to a new SD card slot (I bought for 140 yen / US$1.40).
4. using a glue gun (hot glue), I glued the new SD card slot directly to the JP megadrive cart.

All this method is not my idea, it is originally done by someone I found through random googling.
So all the credits for centering the SD slot goes to this person.
You can find detailed photos of this in the below link.

Any idea where you can get the sd card slots cheap in the uk? Looked on ebay seller wants £5 for delivery! There is a psp one but it has 10 pins, and 9 seems to be the standard.

Is there any reason to take the sd card out much if you loads all the roms on?

MasterOfPuppets where did you get that label?

That logo was designed by me and I don't remember giving people permission to use it for their own labels.

If someone sold this to you I would like to know who they are. If you made it yourself I ask you not to distribute it.

Not trying to be a jerk, but I work hard on this stuff and I don't appreciate people taking it for their own profit or use without my permission.

I've read through, but dunno exactly what type of paper everyone is using to make the labels. Is there one available with adhesive backing that someone can recommend?

Also, anyone made a Super Everdrive label to fit on a Super Famicom cart?

aleomark
12-23-2010, 07:09 AM
I used adhesive glossy paper, it needs to be glossy cause mate doesn't looks good, the only thing is that it's to delicate, so any scrape can mess your label.

And for the inserts I go to a printing house and pay for a digital printing, but you can have the same result if you've a laser print and using couche paper.

StoneAgeGamer

Does someone have done a super everdrive insert for universal cases? and that he/she could share it.

If you plan on making an insert that fits perfectly the universal cases we use for the Deluxe you need an insert size of 7 1/16" x 11 3/16" for a good fit.

So technically the regular size piece of paper will be slightly not long enough. However if you don't care about that last 3/16th of an inch a regular piece of paper would work.

Are you looking for EverDrive-MD insert or Super EverDrive insert?

If you are looking for a EverDrive-MD you can order one of our Genesis-sized inserts (on sale for $2.99+free shipping) and just put in the comments section of the order that you are aleomark from Assembler forums and to give you a universal-sized one instead.

The reason they are on sale is because we have redesigned the insert and label for EverDrive-MD slightly and are just trying to get rid of old design.

If you are looking for Super EverDrive insert we can sell you that one too, but it would be more expensive. If you are interested in this version PM me.

Our inserts are high quality professionally printed. I am assuming you are using the same universal cases we are.

All right. PM sent, I'm looking for a Super Everdrive insert, cause there's no one there, also will be better if I buy a case from you too cause I'm out and for to be 100% sure that it would fix, I don't need an insert for MD Everdrive, but feel free if you want to include it and I'll take the pics with your insert for my next MD Everdrive review and I would redirect people to your site if they look for Everdrive covers.

I know this was asked a long time ago, and I'm sure we've covered it before, but in case you're still wondering...

Sega licensed the games. That included the shells. If you wanted a game, you had to pay Sega for the blanks. EA turned around and said, "Sod that! We'll make our own and save money!" So they did. Of course, they couldn't make them look the same, or they'd get sued.

I'm working on a Master Everdrive cart label (http://www.gamepilgrimage.com/sites/default/files/Miscmovies/SMS_EverDrive_Cart_Label.png) (link here!). Here's the concept design, it's 1200 dpi but the dimensions should be right. I don't know where else to go with it as the original Western carts aren't all that fancy.

There's no need for a flash card slot on the label because it comes out the back piece of the cart case. I added a top label that should just fit and allow me to leave the cart without a case on one of my Sega shelves. I might go hog wild with sprite art, or I might not.

I was initially inspired by antinull's design (on page 2) for the MD cart, then continued it over the the SNES box design. I went with a landscape box for the SNES to be more in-keeping to the originals. The cart labels are printed on sticky-back glossy photo paper.

I just did a quick changes to make it more visible, right now it's the exact design used for "great Baseball" just with sms everdrive info, I know is strange it doesn't have a text box, but I prefer to leave as they used to be.

I Made a cover for snes everdrive:

http://img189.imageshack.us/img189/8940/67787200.jpg (http://bo-anime.com/sousuke/CASESNES.jpg)

BTW I Fixed the old SNES label, now it does says "everdRive"

And for Everdrive MD too

http://img853.imageshack.us/img853/6653/casegenesis.jpg (http://bo-anime.com/sousuke/CASEGENESIS.jpg)

I recommend using the label by eugene 19 is really cool, I modded the name for USA Sega Genesis:

http://img64.imageshack.us/img64/7870/57528204.jpg (http://img845.imageshack.us/img845/7301/labelsg74x67cm.jpg)

N64 is 6,2cm (height) x 5,4cm

So N64 label is 6.2cm height x 5.4cm width. Genesis is 6.82cm height x 7.49cm width.

What's the size Super Famicom and SNES labels (since they must slightly differ from each others)?

I would appreciate it if you give me a PM in the case that you want to use this design for something. Thanks!

I see many US Genesis and EU Megadrive lables and case design for the Everdrive,
but I could not find any with Japanese Megadrive design,
so I made one myself.

I hope you like it
All character artwork except for Comix Zone,
was taken from actual scans of games popular in Japan that I have.
SD slot is customized by me so that it doesn't disturb the Megadrive design.
I put a new "Push in"/"Push out" SD slot in the back.

description:
1. Case Cover
-Front top: "Rent A Hero"
-Front bottom: "Comix Zone"
-Next to title: "Ristar"

-Spine: "Sonic the Hedgehog"

-Back top: Arlu and Lara from "Madoh Monogatari I"
-Back bottom: Red and Blue from "Gunstar Hero"
-Screenshot top: "After Burner II"
-Screenshot bottom: "Shinobi"
-Background art: SA-77 from MEGA-CD game "SILPHEED"

The comment in red "FOR MEGADRIVERS CUSTOM"
is taken from "Alien Soldier".
In green letters it says "We hope SEGA will come back" or similar.
In small gray letters it says "We don't need to blow breath at our carts any more!,
Everdrive will hold all the games that you ever wished in to one".
It is a famous fact in Japan that little kids blow at there carts to get them to work ;-)

2. Cart Lable
-Sonic and Tails from "Sonic the Hedgehog 2"
-Arlu from "Madoh Monogatari I"
-Tiki from "New Zealand Story"

Sorry my native language is Japanese, so my English is not so good.
Maybe my translations are not perfect,
but if someone likes this artwork I am happy :cur_sonic:

My Everdrive 64, Super Everdrive and Everdrive MD stickers. I don't have the image files with me and it's slightly possible that they're lost forever (broken hard drive) but I'll try to find them if anyone wants them.

I don't like the Everdrive being so big so my labels focus on the consoles themselves, with only a small Everdrive mention at the bottom. Seeing as Megadrive is backwards compatible I also added Master System to the label. The Super Everdrive has the SD card insert backwards so this was the motivation for the little SD icons on all my labels, it also indicates whether or not SDHC is supported. Finally, the N64 logo colors don't line up perfectly, this is due to a problem with my printer and Ican't be bothered fixing the alignment / reprinting.

I'm especially pleased with my "Unofficial Nintendo Seal of Quality" ;)

I haven't found any Super Famicom themed labels, so I made a simple label with colors inspired by Seiken Densetsu 3.
(edit: replaced with most recent version)

Heh heh, quickly threw that one together, using that image cuz it was a Nintendo montage that easily fit within SFC label dimensions. I also made a typo on the katakana for "super" (should have been スーパー, not スーパ ). I ended choosing the less busy Seiken Densetsu 3 style.

Late response, but I was able to find the covers again ^_^

I think since making them Igor has added SDHC support to the Everdrive MD (possibly the SNES one too?) so you could cut and paste that part of the cover over from the N64 one.

Free for personal use but don't go slapping them on everdrives and then selling them please.

I can't help you too much, but these back labels are custom. We had to get a custom die made for these labels. You may be able to find a avery label that's close I am unsure.

http://www.diffusedion.co.uk/images/C2/s/EverdriveMD.jpg (http://www.diffusedion.co.uk/images/C2/EverdriveMD.jpg)

For the SNES I tried something different:

http://www.diffusedion.co.uk/images/C2/s/SNESED.jpg (http://www.diffusedion.co.uk/images/C2/SNESED.jpg)

I haven't done a label for the ED64 yet as I only have a dot matrix printer.

YAGRS

How is the jpeg format "ugly for printing"? Many stock imagery companies supply their images in jpeg format for both Web and print design. It wouldn't be very easy to do sell these images if jpegs were unsuitable for print production.

There may be other issues that perhaps you're associating with jpegs. For one, if the image will be printed, it should be saved with a very low level of compression. Also, because many jpegs are intended for the Web, they are saved in RGB, which has a color space that is outside the range of printers (switching the image to CMYK will give you a better idea of how the colors will look when printed, but this can still be quite different, due to a lack of color calibration). Finally, jpegs are often saved at 72 ppi (again, because they are often intended for the Web), and the standard for images going to print is 300 ppi.

So, your issue isn't likely with jpegs, but with the way those jpegs were created.

Just like with the MD, I've spent way too long working on the label for the SNES. This time I worked completely in vector with illustrator. Working on some colour variations and general tidying, and I might throw some sprites in, but I've done about as much as I can be bothered to. It's for a PAL cart, if it wasn't obvious. Now onto the N64...

Please respect the amount of time and effort taken and my ownership of the design, and only use the images for personal use.

Here's how my artwork for my EverDrive64 turned out. I toyed around with a bunch of ideas before settling on this one, that is based on Super Mario Galaxy, so, not exactly in line with the appropriate generation, but I'm happy with it, and happy to share my artwork with anyone that wants to use it. I can also upload PSD files somewhere if anyone's interested. Also, these are all 300dpi, so perfect for printing.

I saw a logo for KRIKzz on everdrive.us, and so I recreated it in Illustrator to use on my labels. I hope that's alright. Otherwise, I'll remove it from these one's that I've put up here.

I also messed up my black cart, so I have another coming soon. (Yeah, I originally installed the board backwards and cut the SD slot out of the wrong side of the shell. Whoops.)

The sum of today's work on an ED64 label. No points for guessing which label it's based on. It's odd - the work on the Nintendo labels only serves to identify how inconsistent the layout of the core elements (the logos, serial numbers, etc...) is. I know they look a bit messy on my designs, but I measure the position and size from the original.

Sorry I missed this. These labels are 300dpi, but, it's possible when you save them straight off the site, here, they are saved as 72dpi. Use photoshop or the gimp to get the labels back to 300dpi with the same width and height they currently have and you should be good. :)

Hi,

I signed up to the forum to contribute to this thread. I've been practicing the art of label making for my Everdrive 64 & Mega Everdrive. Here's one for N64 I based off 8bitplus', which I liked, but I prefer it to be simpler looking so I took out the starfield and lines in the background and used all vector logos and fonts then exported it to 300 dpi lossless png for good printing.

4511

This one's a bit of a work in progress for Mega Everdrive. I use MicroSD so I don't have an SD card slot and my reset switch punches right through the top letters, but thought I would post it to share ideas and get some feedback. The main image is a screenshot of the Sonic title screen from an emulator that can turn off the layers of text that cover it. Suggestions for improvements to the design are welcome :) I need to reprint this one.

I hope this is okay to post in here, since this is an Everdrive thread, but I just got my SD2SNES and am excited to show off and share my artwork (in case anyone else is interested in using it).

First, here's the family shot, Universal Game Case insert, Front & Back. I used a Charcoal Vinyl Die for the color. I also opted not to cut the top of the cart, which meant cleanly removing the USB (that at this time isn't being used), and reducing the height of the SD socket. I'm also using these fantastic microSD adapters (http://www.theminidrive.com/) that I'd highly recommend for anyone looking to do the same with any of their EverDrives (look at the end of my post, I redid my ED64). Quick review: I bought the three for $50 option, and 2 out of the 3 worked. I had great communication with the guy making these, and he's sending out a replacement all on his own! Fantastic customer service, and the two that do work are exactly what I needed.

5993

For anyone interested in the labels, here are the labels at 300 dpi. I've got three versions: The SNES-style without Nintendo Logos (for those who wished to avoid those, like I did for some reason), SNES-Style with SNES & Nintendo Seal on label, and a full label with no SNES-style whatsoever.

The Super Nintendo is my favorite system of all time (don't tell my PS1 or PS2 that), despite never having one growing up. I snuck over to friends houses all the time to play the system (my parents were very much against "Nintendos", which they've now gotten over and even own their own Wii). I wanted to create a label that showed the breadth of the catalog and the amazing titles on the system—most of which I discovered via emulation well after the 16-bit generation was over—without drawing the attention to them, and keep the focus on the name of the cart itself. Hence, emblems for Mario, Zelda, Metroid and more were used to hint at the potential of the cartridge. And, after some time playing around with concepts, I opted to drop any attention being drawn to an SD card itself. There are others out there designing that way, and they look great, but I felt like I was rehashing the same thing others have done for this label, so I simply chose to ignore it all together and go for a semi-retro Mario Bros look (apparently I get all my inspiration from Mario games). Well, I'm pretty happy with it. :)

(And, yes, that black "01" in the last label there is on purpose. It looked really weird with the purple striping in the background when it was just knocked out [hollow].)

***SIDE NOTE: I spent some time at a used game shop picking out carts recently to shuck (making USB HDD shells out of them), and noticed that on US SNES labels, the long rectangle on the top right is either purple or red. If red, they usually accompanied a 3rd party logo under it, but if purple, no other logo was featured. It seemed to me this was a way to tell apart titles released by Nintendo (purple) or by another party (red). I never noticed this before. Any one else notice this and have any sort of comment?

Here's some back labels. I have black text on white (in case you want to print on silver like I did), white text on grey, or white text on black.

And, last but not least, here's the Universal Game Cover. It's quite large, so go here to download the 300dpi version (https://dl.dropbox.com/u/46478994/sd2snes-universal-game-cover.jpg) so I don't break the forum's width.

After making this, I recided to redo my EverDrive 64 cart, and use a miniDrive microSD adapter as well to keep it a clean, uncut cartridge shell. No modifications were done to the EverDrive 64 board, it went in just fine. Consequently, I have a black and a grey cartridge sitting around that are fully labeled, doing nothing, if anyone's interested. The grey cart isn't cut, and the black cart has a slot out the top for a full size SD card. I'm not the handiest with a dremel, so it's not the cleanest work, but it's far from the worst (or scariest) I'm sure some of you have seen. ;)

Also, just now realized that I've provided all of these files, but these only work with those using North American SNES carts. :/ I guess if anyone's interested in any of these labels for a PAL or Japanese cart, let me know, and I can go about resizing them. Sorry in advance.

borrowed the neat design of TylerL above...

All three labels as printable CMYK pdf files, here: http://www.sendspace.com/file/huztr3

For the Famicom ED I used a golden Xevious FC cart. Perfect fit !! The Famicom label shown above has a typo (N8 instead of 8N), but the PDF has been corrected.

The US Genesis cart (or was it a PAL cart?) fits the japanese Sunsoft case perfectly - even with the SD inserted.

haha, ok. I thought so in the first place, but changed it to 8N, since the board here is called this way. Anyway, thanks!

I just wanted to thank you for these. They look great, and better than anything I came up with. I'm currently using the universal shell that shipped from the retrogate shop, but considering I have no plans on using the sd2snes on a super famicom, I'm probably going to switch to a US cart.

Also, one request: Is it possible to have a vertical format cover of the UGC cover? I only ask because that's how the rest of mine are at the moment.

Glad you like them!

I could look at doing a vertical version of for the cover...I probably wouldn't do so until this weekend, though, but I'll make a note of it to see about getting it done.

semi-glossy or glossy adhesive label should work and should look close to real products. It largely depends on your printer as well. I use color laser printer which doesn't suffer color bleeding on cheap paper like some ink but there's less gradient and most low to mid range color laser are limited to 600 dpi. It's fine for most people though.

I created some inserts for the Famicom NAMCO cases, and used the same style template. The common shaped carts fit perfectly in these cases.

For a perfect fit, scale them down to 32%.

Quick question what sticker paper are you guys using for cart labels?

Here's the sticker paper (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000VKV2H4/ref=oh_details_o05_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) I bought. The price was right on it vs other paper, so I could afford to screw up on labels and not feel each mistake was costly. Reviews mentioned it tends to smear, so I spray mine with a few coats of a clear, glossy top coat (something like this (http://www.krylon.com/products/crystal_clear_acrylic/)) to help protect it.

I use the white gloss labels from here:

Of all the labels I've tried, I found that they have just the right amount of gloss for cart labels.

I made this cover but I've uploaded it to megaupload.
I have no backup of this anymore. The only one is the one I printed to my cartridge and I don't have a scanner here to make a good copy of it.

I couldn't exaaaactly find a template I liked for genesis boxes, and sadly, there's no end label on the cartridge. buuut I think it should be easy enough to tell even if I don't put it back in the case, from the SMS button.
