I am at home resting.
The operation went well, but I had a problem due to the anesthesia.
I did not get enough oxygen to my brain, and damage was done.
I was found with only 37% oxygen level and spent days in critical care.
I went in thursday the 1st, the first day I remember anything is sunday. I came home on
wednesday. In seven days I lost 20 pounds weight.
I have a lot of cognitive problems, and lost some of my eyesight.
It feels like I am surrounded by a thick fog, much like being heavily drunk.
I cannot do anything about it, so I am just healing at home.
I am alive, which was in doubt for some days as i battled
death.
Trying to keep my chin up and I am facing this like a man

Holy shit. Someone severely messed up during that operation and not keeping an eye on the O2 supply during that operation.
I'm sure everyone knew something was up since you didn't 'report' back when you said you would.
I really hope for the best for you.

Woha, this sounds like a huge mess-up indeed.
Best of luck with the recovery, your condition must be hell on earth.

I hope the damage is not severe or permanent (I know they start to get concerned when O2 levels drop below 90%). This sounds like pure negligence and you might want to have a family member contact a lawyer (you should rest and recover, though I think we are all glad for an update, even though it is not a good one).
Horrible that you have to suffer like this, regardless whether it is due to human failure or accident. All the best for your recovery!

Best of luck mate....and get well soon.
Just on a side note they might try to treat the memory problems with antidepressants...REFUSE at all costs, doing this destroyed my short term memory so be careful.

Jesus, Kev I truly hope you are able to get help and some of these symptoms disappear. Having suffered a head trauma too, I know where you are coming from and all I can say is keep fighting and don't assume that this is it. Your brain can actually combat these issues and return from damage incredibly well.

Was this operation all down to that car crash?

Get well man. I can sort of understand how depressing this all could be. My mother is currently sitting in a hospital back home. She went into the docs a few weeks back complaining of pain and was simply sent home with some pain meds and that's all. A day later my sister had to call 911 because my mom was screaming in pain in which when taken to the ER she end up having to go into surgery immediately (i think a ruptured absist?). After she was in IC and out cold for a full week. She should have been home by now but atm she is still stuck in the hospital since she end up getting an infection from the surgery and also they missed a rupture in her stomach (so she can't eat any solids). =/

I truly hope you get better!
Maybe the lack of oxygen produced some sort of inflammation of the brain tissues and the symptoms you're having will slowly retreat.
It is a popular myth that brain cells don't reproduce themselves, but it's not completely accurate. They do reproduce, only at a very slow rate. So in this case I just hope you can be patient and hope for the best.
And yeah, SUE THE BASTARDS!

The healthcare in this country is god damn ridiculous. To let you get that low of oxygen during surgery should be criminal, someone was not doing their job. You sure as hell need to take whom ever farked this up to the cleaners.

Has anyone ever filed malpractice?
alecjahn
10-20-2009, 12:45 PM
I have lost a lot of great friends in the past couple years. Too many.
I do not know you at all, but I can only hope you'll be back on your feet, both physically and mentally, in a shorter time than you could imagine.
The best I can say is that I have always felt the mind has the ability to do great things to itself and the rest of your body. It's superficial and almost not even worth mentioning in comparison to your troubles, but I've recently been able to get over my own migrane headaches by the power of myself alone, attempting to take control of my own body with my conscience.
I haven't ever had the misfortune to have to file malpractice, but if you feel that's the case I would fight as hard as you can as soon as you're physically recovered.
Best of luck,
-A. K. Jahn

how are things going kev? improving?
Bramsworth
10-20-2009, 04:15 PM
Definitely, I'd put myself ahead here first and make sure you get a full recovery. While I know anyone would want to take the people who did this to you to the cleaners, it's best you let yourself recover first, rather than put even more stress on yourself by handling all of that stuff now while going through your reported problems.
Best of luck, and always make sure to focus on the positive in life! :)

It's not been very long, so it's not improved much. It will be about 4 months before I am healed and can see what the damage is.
I've lost appx 30% of my eyesight in my right eye. I see black dots and haze in both eyes. I have short term memory problems, balance problems, and have to cover one of my eyes when it's bright as the inrush of visual stimulation is more than my head can process at the moment.
I hate when people make it seem like there's a million things wrong with them, so I'll stop with those few major problems.
My main concern is the vision problems.

Ya, hopefully your eyes did not suffer any permanent damage. They can heal themselves up naturally, but it usually takes a while. I knew someone who looked into spotlight (or something like that) and he was looking at a big black spot for a long while before it started to fade away and get normal again.

I finally have a set of medications that are working. Before I was living between drugged stupor and constant pain.
I stopped all meds for two days to get a grasp of the pain situation.
I tailored my medication to the pain, and now I have managed pain and
mental acuity.
My eyesight is still fucked.
Progress none the less.

That's good. You should possibly see a specialist for eyes, to determine if it may be with your eyes. In this situation, it can't hurt to go through a list of options.
