I, for one, am getting one as soon as I have the money after it's out.

And, yes, it does look even cooler in the commercial.

The GBA compatibility is what really convinces me, though.

It's like having every sort of sotware / hardware possibility in one little machine!

Still think the PSP is way better. Nintendo must be loosing a shit load from sellinf it so low and you don't need to buy new software for it...

It will be interesting to see if sales of the DS can be sustained after the initial pre-order and holiday rushes are fulfilled.

Hmm, interesting to actually see the touch screen being used.

It seems that 2nd screen really isn't used much. Maybe just a unit with a single, much larger, touch screen would have been better?

But I am interested. Only time will tell...

How are they losing a shit load from it? If anything, Sony will get hammered from selling the PSP at $200.

Because, as I said, they loose money on a unit - that doesn't require you to buy new games to use it. Can't say it more simply.

Who would buy a DS only to play their GBA games on it?

einbebop44

Why would people buy a DS instead of a GBA, if all they wanted was to play GBA games? A DS costs nearly twice as much as an SP. For that amount, I'd think that consumers would buy DS centric software.

The fact is, Ninty makes money either way, as they own both properties. I think the DS will probably replace the SP, when it drops to around $100 or so. I don't see why they'd be losing a ton...again, I think Sony is getting arse-raped by selling the PSP that low!

Wasn't this also true for the GBA, or for that matter the GBC?

We've got demo models up in the store now, and I thought Metroid was really fun to play. Definately an odd control scheme, but you get used to it fast.

I just tried the default one, with the stylus in the right hand and moving with the D-pad, and while there are a few seconds of confusion, it is really easy to control.

Coming out tomorrow, woo hoo! :-D

Damn...no money. :smt022

Not terrible though, as I'd probably not play the damned thing anyway...still, the touch screen is intriguing.

Not out yet down here.

Will cruise the Ehm... market (cough *smuggled goods* cough) next week, and see how much the price is inflated over there.

I'm not precisely made out of money, nor do I have a tree, though. So I'll probably wait till i'm paid in early december to see how much I can really spend.

I saw one today in Toy'S R US :-D Very nice indeed. I had to fight of shit loads of Japanese kids to get to it though :smt043 I've got to wait another 3 weeks or so before I can buy one. I think the DS will keep Nintendo up there at the top of hand helds simply because it offers something "NEW" that the PSP doesn't. Sure the PSP has better graphics, bigger screen, plays movies and so on but what's new about all that? Nothing at all. Movies on the move can be done via a PDA. Great looking games are on PDA (Not as good as PSP butstill good), MP3 via god knows how many options and so on. The DS after playing it may be cheap looking compared to the PSP but it sure offers more fun !! Blowing on the screen was really odd at first but seeing your breath have an effect on the screen is such a great feeling. I'm not a Hand Held fan at all but the DS is looking to change that.

I am going to get a Nintendo ds but only for the Nintendo in house stuff and maybe some Sega stuff, I think the psp will be out on the move with me more but I will get a ds just to have the peice of hardware.I'm going to wait a few weeks until they release a limited edition model of the ds though, cause the grey one is just so god damn ugly it hurts.

Indeed, but the DS will be costing Nintendo a lot more money than the any other GB. Two hi res colour screen, mic, touch screen, WiFI etc.

I think personally that a lot of people are in the same bandwagon... Probably going to get both, myself.

Aaaawwww! That's... the CUTEST thing I've ever seen.

Wonder if they'd make one with kitties.... or BUNNIES! That would be so RAD!

I at least would to buy the cartridge if I had the money but not the space to have pets.

My two cats are insane, though, so I have enough "entertainment" in a screenless manner.

I was going to say the same thing, but I didn't know if it would offend anyone - I've had so many Japanese friends here make some comment on the Korean people and dogs as foodstuffs. :smt043
