I won a US 60GB PS3 on ebay for £90 shipped, advertised as broken the guy said the laser had failed and he replaced it but it still wasn't working.

Once I received it I planned to order a new laser and fix it. I opened it up to make sure nothing else was broken.

Checked the laser and the guy had left the protection sticker on!

Needles to say I peeled that off, screwed it back together and it now works perfectly..

Bargain!

£40 shipped. It was an ebay lot with no pictures. I was surprised when I saw the FF game, expected it to be a copy of phantasy star online identified wrongly like you sometimes see. Except for those bottom two that I put separately which are missing instructions, a couple of cracked cases and the 4 loose discs everything is mint and complete! Some pretty expensive stuff in there!

WOW!!! impresive find thomj!
my last ebay find was this:

Not very impressive but still very cheap.

Not quite such a good deal but I also recently got these, the top lot I paid just under £50 for total. PS1 is an scph-1002 (flipped it round to show the extra outputs) which I'll sell on for about £20 and came with a copy of r types in it (shame there's no case). Apart from kirby's dream land everything is boxed with instructions and near mint. The bottom lot was 50p for the whole stack, top row are from the front of N64 magazines, cheat books and things, the bottom row are all N64 manuals, all for different games. I just know that some day these will come in handy. I won't buy games without instructions so I just made a list of those ones and now I can look out for cheap box / no instructions copies.

Went to the flea market today. I bought Nintendo Power issues 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and the official Nintendo Power SMB3 guide. Only 1$ per issue. They're in incredible condition with all the original inserts and posters intact.

edit: #1 also says "Free Sample Copy" on the front instead of "Free Poster Inside". How rare would you guys say this thing is? Whats it worth? It is in amazing condition. Near mint.

Is that a good price? I mean a D40x (10MP instead of the D40's 6MP) is $300 new w/ 1 lens.

The D40 is a better camera then the D40x as the smaller MP means the CCD is more sensitive and it has a much faster fill in flash.

MPs don't really matter unless you want to make large posters....

A D40 with 2 lenses sells for well over $500, been trying to win a D40 with one lens on Ebay and even second hand they have been going over $300...

Went to Morrisons with the kids this morning which was rather challenging, to say the least. But they did have Motorstorm:Pacific Rift for a very acceptable £6 (original, not Platinum). Hopefully they'll soon realise no-one is going to give them £37.99 for Little Big Planet and I'll be able to get that for 6 quid too.

Forza Motorsport 3 "NEW" for £3.94 shipped should be a good deal as normally its 8 or 9 times the price but i suspect something may be wrong here but i don't mind for £3.94 if i at least get maybe a game like Forza 2 if i won't be getting Forza 3 since i was going to get Forza 2 anyway since i need as much as i can to get an Xbox 360 arcade console on its own.

The local EB dumped all their import Saturn games and I happened by, the games were marked down to ten bucks. So I got about 20 games, one being Radiant Silvergun, hah.

Arcade stuff count? A free Afterburner someone threw away (was on the corner with the trash cans) that had a blown fuse, and a Journey arcade cab that was sitting by a dumpster. The Planet Harriers for 250 bucks was a hell of a deal.

Ended up with a series of good deals starting with inquiries as to a ps2 test 10k on ebay, and ended up making a good relationship with a seller clearing out a relative's apartment ( a Taito employee who had recently passed away)..
So far:
DTL-H10000 (boxed with Taito inventory sheet and all parts asset tagged)
DTL-H10000 (loose, but all asset tagged components included)
DTL-H1001 (loose)
6 new boxes of CD-R71PS, and one sealed loose disc marked "SAMPLE" (61 discs total)
Miscellaneous import PS2 games (mostly Taito trash, but seller didn't know what they were and didn't want to be troubled with listing them, so sold them to me instead)

They're currently looking for other items as they go through the apartment, and there's word of a "red" playstation one....
no clue if that means aftermarket case, or something altogether different...

as prices on debugging stations have gone down, I'd say the pricing was good, not "garage sale holy crap", but good- I mainly was looking for a single H10000 marked "TEST", and instead ended up picking up a bit of a nice collection with some reliable information of its origin.

Got Halo 2 two days before it came out for $20. Big deal back then. It's not what you know, it's who ya know. Also found a complete NES at my parents. Ours had broken and was tossed, so who it belonged to was anyone's guess. I got to keep it :D . On silvertag.com when it had just started up I got a new Zune 30 gig for under $7, shipped free.

About a year ago I was passing through Mirboo North and my wife stopped to get a drink at the Milk Bar, and I noticed there was this really groady old PC shop next to the milk bar, so I was looking through the window. There was heaps of crappy bootlegged games all for about $5, but I could see deeper in the store was a range of old big-box games.

I walked into the shop and looked at the big-box PC games and saw System Shock Enhanced CD Version still sealed with the EA Seal of Quality on the outside of the shrink wrap. I took it to the counter to ask how much it was.

"$15", he said.. "Oh wait... is that an XP game?",
"No, this is a DOS game." I said.
"Oh, $5 then."

Last year I got my bc PS3 for nearly free.
The guy that owns the flea market shop I work at bought it and a bunch of other crap for 80 bucks. The PS3 wouldn't power-on. I repair shit for him all the time. After a few hours of trying to get the power supply to stop blowing fuses, I ended up just spending the $45 on a pulled working PSU and it's been running good ever since. I then decommissioned my 80gig non-bc, and made this my main unit. Then I sold my 80gig recently when I was in a bind for cash... luckily to a friend, so I can visit it on occasion.

But as for the 60gig:
I basically traded the time it took for me to do a couple PS2 clean/repairs.

So, some time and $45...

So I walk into a Gamestop yesterday to grab a copy of Xenosaga III before they get retarded-expensive, and as I go to purchase it, I see a little gem glistenning from behid the counter - a complete copy of Arc the Lad for PS1. Worth about $60-80 or so. I of course asked how much for it and they employye said that it wasn't for sale. Then he told me how he got it. Someone came in to trade in all of their PS2/PS stuff. Arc the Lad included. The employee told this guy that they can't offer any money for it, and he replied with, "well take it anyways." so the Gamestop guy got it for free.

Another cool thing that actually happened to ME was about 3 or so years ago: I went to a Barnes and Noble and found a Lunar: Eternal Blue strategy guide. That's right, the Sega CD version, in brand new condition (mild wear around the spine). The price on the back was $16 (if I remember right, it's in storage), but was technically on clearance - it was $4!!!!!!! And now it's mine! In this condition it'll fetch a pretty penny.

I was carting an empty arcade machine out of my college row home in Philadelphia and my neighbor came up to me and asked if I liked video games, and I was like, yes of course, and he walked back into his house and came out with a Virtual Boy! Came with the AC Adapter, controller, and Wario Land. One of the lenses has the problem with the horizontal lines but it seems like a common problem so I don't think it will be a hard fix. 20 minutes of playing it left me with a massive headache... I don't think it will be getting much playtime.

EDIT: @Arkanoid I'm so jealous of your kiosk!

I just picked up a Sega 32x with the ac, the special adapter cable to hook to the genesis, the adapter converter for hooking to the model 1 genesis and the bottom plate to fit snug with all systems... Works great! I've been playing Doom.

Nice typo, Mahora's Mask sounds like a bad porno XD

Not anything spectacular, but quite a few years ago (like, back when I was seven) my dad found a Sega CD Mk2 with like 5 games at some antique store for 20 bucks. It has since been "lent to" my uncle... (The real story is that he said he wanted to "borrow it" to try it out and never fucking gave it back... and now he says we "gave" it to him <_<, god damn Sonic CD was one of the games...) But whatever, I have a Sega CD Mk1 now, which I think is sexier.

and a boxed, near mint (but missing the adapter and controllers, we have those a plenty) master system 2 for 2.5euro (aprox. 3.09 USD) also on a flea market
funny story there... we started out with 20euro and ended at 5... seller then says, you can have it for 2.5 :p

Thnx. Boxes are a bit like shit though. The arcade dealers here are so stupid that they ducktaped the original boxes in order to mail them, instead of mailing them in a whole new box and now in the place the tape was, it is darker brown instead of light brown, due to the glue residue.

All in great condition besides the CLD-D502, where the disc gets off track while playing.
Picked up on Craigslist today.

Just picked up another Pioneer LaserActive CLD-A100 w/ Sega PAC, 2 Genesis games(Evander Holyfield's Real Deal Boxing and Sonic The Hedgehog 2 Not For Resale) 2 Sega CD games( Chuck Rock II Son of Chuck and Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure) and the LaserActive controller. This happened to me 3 years ago.
Here in the Dutchlands we have Queensday, on it we celebrate the queens birthday but also the whole country turns into this open market where kids and adults can sell their unwanted junk.
As I was walking past one of the stands a "laptop-bag"caught my eye, it turned out to be a carry case for an Atari Lynx. It had the Lynx I in it looking like new, all the cables and like 30 odd games. I asked him if it worked and the seller pulled out this bag of batteries, put them in and turned it on. Screen was perfect as well as the sound. He asked 40 euros for it which I happily paid....but I came short 4 euros (I was on my way to an ATM) He said:"Meh it's okay, take it and keep the batteries too"

I got an early Model 2 Sega Saturn with a Model 2 controller for $20.

I picked up a copy of Virtua Racing (Genesis) at the Goodwill for $2.07 last weekend. It came with the manual, Sega promotional material, and a Sega Visions questionnaire/form.

Got 20 NFR DS carts, including 6 Download Station carts, for $225 shipped. It's really two identical sets of 10, so I'll sell off one whole set of 10 for at least what I paid for the lot, and then end up with the rest for free.

I would've waited for the haul to come in from Germany and post a picture, but I'm too impatient.

With this, I'll have download station carts 1, 2, 3, 4, 10, 12, & 14.

It also comes with NFR/Demo copies of Pokemon Diamond/Pearl, Rhythm Heaven, Mystery Case Files: Millionheir, Professor Layton, DK Jungle Climber, Mario & Luigi Inside Story (EU), and Kirby Super Star Ultra.

I just got a Japanese Famicom in the US at a thrift store!

Came with 15 games(7 of them are pirate carts), power plugs, and an arcade style turbo controller. all for only $30.00! that definitely beats importing one from japan.

Sad thing is some kids stuff probably got donated by their mother when he went off to college.

This thing is straight CIB and then some! As far as I can tell, it has all original paperwork, original sticky peripherals still on their sheets (Velcro, reflective strip), 5 Heartbeat fliers, and a bizarre bonus item and sheet detailing the reason it was included was so that this could "ship before the Christmas Season".

I can confirm that the system has it's own stickers on the bottom not directly associated with Sega, and that it will play retail Genny games.

CIB collection, here we come!

I think I finally got my brother to let me have his 360 that keeps dying (I don't mind tearing it apart every few months for a quick shitty in-my-basement reflow, in fact I would enjoy that). His roommate moved out to go to the military, and left me in indefinite control of the Wii and my brother in control of his working 360.

I guess I should find a hard drive for it. I wonder where I can find a quick 20gb for cheap... IE not-getting-ripped-off by the preowned stores or pawn shops around here...

I went to Replay Games on Friday to buy a copy of Metal Gear Solid 2, I knew they had a copy there in mint shape, and it was going to cost me 14.99. I happened to go through 6.99 or less bin right in front of the registry and found the Metal Gear Solid 2 with the case in great shape, the manual in great shape for 5.99!!!

Needless to say I put the other copy back and got that one instead. The disc was flawless as well. I'll post a picture of it later tonight. I still can't believe I got it for only 5.99!!!

The best deal I have made (but not nothing great compared with other deals on this thread) was trading my SNES with 2 joypads and 2 games with a Sega Saturn with 1 joypad and 2 games (back then when the Saturn was still active in the market). Unfortunately few months later I had to trade my Saturn with a Playstation since I couldn't afford byuing a Playstation and I didn't have money for new Saturn games (yeap, I was byuing pirate games on Playstation).

The most unusual - and definitely most hilarious - deal was made by my little brother when he was in elementary school. A friend of his asked him to give him his ice-cream and in return he would give him Terminator Vs Robocop for Gameboy (back then when Gameboy was still active in the market). The game was so shitty (even my brother didn't like it) that he said "Damn! My ice-cream had more value that this game." I don't remember what happened to the game later (maybe my brother trade it for a bubblegum  ).

I bought two games for PS3 today - Toro to Morimori for 8.30$ and Pro Yakyuu Spirits 6 for 12.45$, shipping included. Why so cheap? Well, I've been lucky - one guy in my country wanted to get rid of all ps3 games he had, about 250 different titles. He had three games that I was interested in, those two I mentioned before, and Aquanaut's Holiday. I asked him if he would sell me lot of three before listing auctions. I proposed 25 usd + shipping charges for each game, he refused my offer and said he would rather put his games on auction site because it would fetch him higher price.
Long story short - I managed to win two auctions, since people were not interested in japanese games, too bad Aquanaut's Holiday was won by someone else (with 0 feedback). Anyway I can't really complain about it since I got 2 games dirt cheap :)

Check both pics. Box is in second ones.

The Second Picture only shows the Box for the Net Yaroze itself. it doesnt show the Software package box. Hopefully it comes with the Serial to USB cable, Access Card (special memory card) and Yaroze Development Discs. Without them you basically have a mod chipped PSX.

Infact a cheap net yaroze setup is just a chipped PSX with the Serial to USB cable, Yaroze Development discs and access card. And it functions identically to a 'real' net yaroze. Also there are ways to get the yaroze Development disc and serial cable to function without the access card too.

Either way, a net yaroze console for $30 is a STEAL!!! Thats incredibly cheap. you are quite a lucky lucky person.

I've been both screwed and gifted by various eBay sellers in the past couple of weeks.

I originally bought a 40GB PS3 Demo Unit that I intended to convert to retail and jailbreak for about $190. It was pictured as a console in mint condition with authentic accessories (and he said it came with it's original box, which made me buy it over the other ones in the first place). What I received instead was a beat-up, YLOD-impending PS3 with very generic accessories (and it came in a Cheetos box instead for flavor, I suppose).

After sending negative feedback, he agreed to refund me if I revised it. I sent it back the day after I received it through USPS, and they destroyed it! Thanks to insurance, though, I got my full refund, and he gets to deal with the post office! :D

I then ended up finding a mint 60GB PS3 with a DualShock 3 and an official Memory Card adapter for around $220! This 60GB is actually quieter than the demo unit I had!

Btw, I'm on PSN now as Eviltaco64. Add me if you'd like to. :)

This one wasn't within the past week or so, in fact, it was about two or three weeks ago, but it is indeed quite recent and fresh in my mind...

About 4 weeks ago, I was sitting at my desk, in front of my laptop, as I normally do at night (as a matter of fact, that's what I'm doing right now). I go into their Buy & Sell forum, again, as I'd do any other night. This night was a bit different...it was cold outside, and there was still snow on the ground from the snowstorm a few days earlier...I'd found some pretty interesting stuff in November and December, and I'd begun to wonder if I'd find something good this month to continue the trend...

As it turns out, this fellow over at Digital Press posted up a lot of 36 random alpha/beta/preview/review game discs... It was as random as a random lot could get, with everything from Wii shovelware to some pretty decent titles (Resident Evil 5 or Street Fighter 4, anyone?). Now I'd dealt with this fellow before...I picked up 9 protos from him previously, including a Mega Man 9 PS3 proto (and you can bet your collection...I got a deal on it, such that I was able to pass it along at a reasonable price to another collector). So for the sheer heck of it, I send the guy a message... "Regarding the proto lot... Out of curiosity...how much for all 36?" He comes back a day or two later, "How 'bout an even hundred for all 36? I also have an original Xbox debug and PS2 debug if you're interested." I was completely floored. I told him I'd gladly take the protos for the hundred, and depending on the prices and condition, I'd also take both the PS2 and the Xbox debug units. He said neither unit came with a controller, and the Xbox didn't come with an AV cable, but both had power cords, and the PS2 had its AV cable. Also, he stated the PS2 was tested and working, but the Xbox he wasn't able to test without a controller or video cable. His prices? "$50 for the Xbox and $125 for the PS2. I'll take care of shipping via FedEx Ground to a US address." I told him I'd take them both, just tell me where to send the PayPal. Turns out, along with his PayPal address, he came out with something else interesting..."I found another 9 PS2 discs packed away with the PS2 console. If you'd like them too, I'd throw them in for another $25. I added pics of them and the two consoles here: (Photobucket link snipped)."

So I sent him the PayPal, $300 total, and a few days later, he shipped. I received them on the 29th...and they were everything I envisioned them to be (and more: extra protos of the same title were in the case alongside two of the games). The complete list:

Awesome deal mb7241 though it sounds like either they got them for free as a work related bonus or were in hard times, it would explain why they wouldn't care how much they got so long as they got something :P

I'm surprised you managed to find anything there though, they have a lot of cool stuff (mostly NTSC cart based games IMO) but the posts get bumped off so frequently and they have wtb posts mixed in with wts it can quickly get ugly :P Finding them there was a noble challenge in itself!

Also welcome to the forum :)

In my experience game journalists tend to think that preview/review discs are basically worthless junk. Who wants buggy versions of games, right? They have no idea that the a-list titles can be worth hundreds.

That's a hell of a haul for the price, anyway.

Our House Party (preview)

Yesterday i ve brought back 3 gradius soundtrack that i ve once exchanged them plus a few games for a gamecube, they are gradius iv fukkatsu, midi power pro7 and gradius remixes, killer cuts (an killer instinct soundtrack) and turok 2 for R$140 (around 80 dollars)

i don´t know the price for these gradius soundtrack on internet, but when i find one soundtrack of the series they cost around 35 dollars or british pounds, and killer cuts is around 30 dollars, so i think it was a great deal.

So looking for arcade machines for the game store I'm helping my friend open we found a Mario Bros. in Omaha, Nebraska that is in really nice condition (from the pictures) It seems a lot of times good condition cabs go for $600-800. Well this guy was only asking $350. That already sounds like an awesome deal right? Well we contact him and he says there's an NBA Jam 4-player near Kansas City, and if he gives us the money to pick it up for him and bring it to him in Omaha, since he has a full time job and 2 kids that keep him busy, he'll give us the Mario Bros. for free!

So tomorrow me and my friend have 10-11 hours of driving to do!

We had it estimated out to around $150, but unfortunately looks like that deal isn't happening. A couple hours after I posted my friend sent me a txt message that the guy sold the NBA Jam to someone else even though he knew we planned on coming to pick it up. So now we're deciding if we want to get the Mario Bros or not. since the cab is $350 and then it's about $80-90 for gas.

Its still a good saving over a hundred dollars less than the normal price

My favourite purchases or miracles

Bought Switchblade for the Amstrad Gx - guy said it was a pc game to which I replied 'On a cartridge?' - anyhow paid 50p and 12 days later on ebay it sold just over £83.00. Tried to research it but maybe the bonus cart I found in the box was the main selling point (skeet shoot - a trojan light gun game) or maybe i was lucky to have a few people really wanting it. I've never figured it out

Guy at a bootsale selling a suitcase full of sega stuff, didnt get to examine it fully just kinda jumped in feet first.Big suitcase crammed full for £15.get home and find a mint Streets of Rage 3 and F1 blue box edition amongst the fairly standard other titles. Re-sold most of the contents apart from the mega cd and ms converter 2 (and the two main games).

13 boxes of retro stock from a trader at local markets for £30 delivered. Lots of spectrum games including Codemasters cd pack,Sabre Wulf and Alien 8 in black boxes,a sealed Master system control stick and lots of consoles and a few ok md titles to top up my collection. It was like christmas going through the boxes (i only had a cursory glance at the market) seeing the many items stack up in front of me - sold lots on and butchered/modded a md2 and mcd into a custom case but basically rescued them from a fate worse than certain council amenity dumping.

So... not mega miracles or huge profit stories but my favourite purchases over the last few years.
