I won this on Sunday morning: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=320243115997&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=011

However, since then the person selling it off has not replied to my emails and requests for information on picking it up. Kiff lives locally and was willing to collect it for me.

Nothing...so I suspect the seller was not happy with the £56 end price. This is one of those frustrating eBay moments.

Slip, slipping away!

I had exactly the same with this one as well!!!

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180218001679

My seller finally did get in-touch, but it all got rather complicated. A) Not located at the address provided B) He wasn't the owner (but was, not, was! He couldn't make his mind up on this one) C) The mobile number he gave me to arrange collection rang out, never went to answering machine. D) He rarely replied to emails regarding the situation / item.

So, I have the dilemma of whether I am going to leave it and get negative feedback or proceed and put Kiff out further than I already have.

My instincts tell me the seller will blame the situation on me rather than accept he has pissed around.

Bah! Negative feedback ahoy I suspect!

Did eBay UK not get the "sellers can no longer give negative feedback to buyers" thing yet?
Eric started a topic about that and some other eBay changes a while ago, the update is also coming to eBay Germany in May.

Edit again: First the XBOX Kiosk now a full size Ridge Racer cab?! Your wife WILL kill you one day ;)

Ah thats sh*t parris, looks like your going to miss out on a nice item becuase of a .....(can't think of the word to use) seller.

i do hope that as the title of the thread says Miracles do happen! (http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?p=277563#post277563) and you eventually do get this one.

I am not sure whether that has hit us yet. I'll have a look at the new rules.

As for the RR cab... she is potentially the most long suffering wife of any of the AG members, perhaps with the exception of one or two I shall not mention (but they'll know who they are).

Even I am now looking at the slowly assembling cab and thinking 'Holy shit!'

It arrived in a few pieces, not all together in one large unit so I think I am a bit shell shocked!

This might become an item I repair and sell on actually lol :oh:

I went to the "may fair" (a fundraiser by a church in my town) this morning, which had a white-elephant sale. Anyway, for about 15 dollars I bought:

Neon Genesis Evangelion TV series + both movies (on 4 discs, its most likely a bootleg [but a pretty professional looking one ^_^]

Factory sealed NFL 2k for the dreamcast

Factory sealed 688(I) hunter killer for windows 95

Factory sealed Tiger Woods PGA tour golf for the Handspring Visor (what ever the hell that is)

The official guidebook to Riven

Need for speed most wanted black edition exclusive dvd

And a ton of DOS rpgs:

Kings Quest IV,
Loom,
The Bards Tale: Tales of the unknown,
the bards tale II: the destiny knight,
the bards tale III: the thief of fate,
the bards tale construction set,
might and magic IV: clouds of xeen,
might and magic V: dark side of xeen,
stonekeep,
ultima underworld: the stygian abyss,
ultima underworld II: labyrinth of worlds,
dragon wars,
wasteland,
and wizardry gold.

Everything is in great condition (except loom, it seems to have dried blood on) and most of the RPGS came in a box called The ultimate RPG archive.

So I traded in Pro Evolution Soccer 08 at 1-Up Games, not that the Wii version doesn't have its own charm...I'm just not coordinated enough to move my players around the field and concentrate on the ball-carrier at the same time. Anyway! I noticed they had Guardian Heroes for sale so I snapped it up, taking the trade-in into account, I got it for £2!

Pretty nifty methinks.

http://image1.play-asia.com/350/PA.26712.001.jpg
Finally got one of these this morning,
On play-asia it states " Notice: Due to the shelf time of this product, packaging might be not in perfect condition"
It doesn't state that the controller will be removed from the packaging and used, then put back in - covered in dust.
It doesn't state that the game seal will be broken and fingerprints placed on the disc (They must be an optional extra).
It doesn't state that there will be a rolled up piece of sticky-tape stuck to the bottom of the game case which (when unrolled) has half a 'Playstation' logo on it.
It doesn't state that the manuals plastic bag's seal will be ripped and manual flipped through.
It doesn't state that the consoles will be removed from the boxes and stacked on top of each-other (There's oval rubber feet marks on top of the plastic-y cover on the top of the conole)

I'm not too impressed, but the console itself is perfect so that makes me happy.
It seems that Play-Asia have just thrown the package together, or opened them all. Or something. Don't know.
Doesn't look like the work of customs, they wouldn't have consoles to stack (unless it was like that from the factory)

In other news: It's a 1.0 or a 1.1, It's rockin' a Sammy, a WD HDD, and it's the quietest xbawks I've got.
Happy now.

Edit2:
And in addition to all that, It wouldn't boot last night when I got it home from work.
Brand new.
Wouldn't boot.
Froze at the flubber screen.

I eventually got it to boot, put the unit on it's side and it booted. Me thinks the HDD has been knocked around too much - Didn't try it again this morning.

Ok let me see
we (My Girlfriend and I) got...
A box with two woody atari's and 18 games and a load of controllers for £2.

A Playstation 2 tool for £20 (plays everything!) It's a computer bolted onto a playstation 2 for development originally costing thousands.

Two mega drives 2s for £2

A box with 5 snes's in for £8

Secret of Mana game for the snes for £1 and the next day got one for 50p

A playstation 2 for £1 and after I cleaned it it worked perfectly

Found a N64 in a dump (while I was throwing away stuff) with 2 controllers and all leads but missing the video card which only cost me 50p.

My friend bought a PS2 for £2 buy it didn't work so I opened it up to clean and adjust it and found a small hair on the lens and now that works too.

A PS 1 with Micky mouse game 2 memory cards and controler for £1

PS2 Tool for £20 = utter bargain! There is a huge Tools thread in the Sony dev section if you need assistance with this unit.

PS2 for = £1 is pretty good going. Our local Second hand store is putting out 'faulty' PS2 units for £5 each, or £4 each if you buy handfuls. I've bought a few and brought them back to life.

You may laugh at the "special edition playstation" but in actual fact my first Playstation Tool was a badly listed eBay item. The guy had it listed as "Playstation2", with no other references and I stumbled across it by accident.

Luckily he has said "open to offers" so I emailed him and he offered it to me for a really cheap price. In his own words he said "My mate gave it to me and I decided to sell it as neither of us could get it to play games..." he really DID think it was a large Playstation2. Nothing more, nothing less.

It wasn't as cheap as £20 though... that guy thought he got the last laugh, but he didn't.

Wow Arkanoid, 7$ for a Nomad... Very nice.

I got a pretty nice deal on ebay recently. 16$ for a boxed Sega Genesis Model 2 with Sega CD 2, including both AC Adapters, two controllers, and all the little details like the expansion port covers, CD audio mixing cable for using it with a model 1, even the manuals.
Yeah this lady down the street was selling all of her son's gaming stuff after he went to college. She didn't know what it was and neither did I at the time so I did the thing any true gamer would do if they saw something like that, I bought it. She even wanted $10 for it but all I had left from the other stuff was $7. I swear as soon as I go to college I am renting a storage unit so my parents never do that to me. Nice deal with the Genesis/Sega CD combo. Mine cost me $60 from Play-N-Trade with only 1 controller but it did come with a Model 1 Genesis which I sold back since it was in crap condition and I already have a Model 2 which looks better with the Model 2 Sega CD.

Nice one on the DSlite that started to work after bought faulty... why do people give up so easily? :DOH:For $50, I recently picked up a Wii that wasn't reading discs. I got it with an idea of getting a replacement drive off ebay, but mostly just to open it up & poke around inside without fear of messing up a good unit. Well, as it turned out, the problem wasn't actually reading discs, but that the mechanism wasn't pulling them all the way inside, or properly ejecting. A bit of tweaking later & I had a pretty much functional unit that I can use for homebrew/imports without stressing over bricking it - it still has some trouble with GC discs, but I'm not so fussed about that - maybe I'll fix that later.

I also picked up a PAL 360 off ebay a while back for $50 - the US based seller claimed to be unable to test it. Since I have PAL capable monitors, I figured it was worth a shot - turned out fine, absolutely no problems at all.

The wife decided to spring a surprise birthday present on me. My b'day isn't for a few weeks, however she saw something on eBay she thought I might like and snapped it up immediately.

She did really, really well, albeit she's now created 2 major headaches. A) How to get the item here and B) where to store it when it arrives.

Somehow, she managed to obtain Sega Manx TT Twin cabinets for an astonishing £100.00. Delivery will be around £250.00, so I immediately sold a couple of unused items to cover the costs. Even at that, they sell for more than £350.00 normally.

So, result!

Pretty sweet, let's just pray it's all in good nick otherwise it'll be a long long restoration thread. Hey, there's nowt wrong with a nice long restoration thread - especially one of Parris' - I learn a ton off most of those threads!

Parris, I'm guessing you're now going to have to build an extension to keep your personal arcade in!

Parris
03-17-2009, 04:28 AM
Ha! In this case, the learning curve is equally on the side of the poster as frankly the amount of input from others on these 'refurb & resto' threads from various members is great!

The longest thread for a repair was one that Limey and I were involved in a year or so ago, which tracked the repair of several Playstation 2 Tools owned by various members. It was a great community effort and I think it proved just how useful such threads could be.

A variety of people posted a huge amount of additional information.

I like a thread where those with a little technical knowledge can rub shoulders with people who have either none or lots and everyone just chips in, finds things out or imparts a bit of knowledge.

Lots of people visit on AG regularly have hoards of information that slowly leeks out through long conversations.

So, you'll be glad to know the Manx TT Twin is partially functioning. I spoke to the owner today and its gargantuan - I seriously have a problem with fitting it into the garage as it stands right now as I have 5 units in there. I'm in the middle of trying to sell a Namco Point Blank, which may or may not go for the asking price. I do need it gone though lol

The non functioning bit appears to be yet another monitor. The right hand coins up, can be heard to be working, but nothing on screen. It's either a defective video board or a monitor issue. Easy to establish when it arrives as the LEFT hand unit works. Swap parts and check!

Me too, I've learnt so much from the arcade threads but it seems after Parris' bad luck with the hang on unit I was just hoping this cab turns out perfect.

Doesn't sound too painful, I guess the beauty of a dual cab is that you can use one to test the other.

The risk you take with older arcade units is really not finding serviceable parts. I don't mind having to do the odd repair, but locating boards etc is a pain.

Exactly, I can swap things around....

Needs new bulbs perhaps? If so burn it.

Hopefully it's something simple, worth spending a bit of time on if you can get it working seeing as it was free.

Can pick up rear projections here in the UK for pennies on ebay now. My brother had a 50" model with a 4:3 screen ratio, awesome for old games and because the screen was so big, forcing DVD's into letterbox still looked bigger than life.

The neo geo just needed a 9v transformer (it was tested with a 5v which wasnt enough on this rev on the board) , and the sticks only needed some cleaning (corrosion occured).

I also picked up a few loose carts for a total of 2000 yen.

A quick google search revealed that a lot of people have experienced the exact same thing. one solution is getting new coolant. i gotta take the back off the tv to see if this is the issue or not.

we did play Melee on it tonight, while the colors were still jacked up, the overall picture wasn't too terrible. it'd be awesome if i could get it back in good condition.

i got this horrible 50inch rear projection tv with the worst picture quality imaginable for free. you can't even watch dvds on the thing! however, now i have to pay money to have it taken to the dump. i thought it would be a good deal at first but i was wrong. :crying:

Oh man, that sucks, the same thing happened to me back in 2007 while living in Miami. Got a 50" rear projection tv for free too, but there wasn't even bad picture quality at all ... it was completely busted and getting it fixed would cost a fortune, so one night I had to take it in the company van up to the nearest dump and dispose it. It sure was a sad, sad night :crying:

Hopefully you can repair yours.

I am sure you all remember this little bargain and it`s story

Well I didn`t need to get a power supply for the PAL booster, it eventually all worked anyway

Well as a courtesy I e-mailed the guy to say it was all fine, he said thanks for the update and then offered me a cube and some games for £10, I said I would check with my son as he had £5 pocket money from a nan and let him know. Anyway about 2 days later he said I can have it because of the problems with the N64

So a US cube with a region switch, another step down, 2 games and freeloader, and official memory......all for nada

Well mainly becauseall the GC owners bought a Wii and as it's backward compatable there are a glut of machines, a bit much like the original Playstation. Here in Japan you can get a GC with PSU for less then the cost of the AV lead... the Pads generally get kept too... I've lost count of the number of shops that have 10+ Gamecubes but not a single Gamecube pad or AV lead...

Last time i bought a cube it was £25 but that was the mario smash football pak so not sure if that makes a difference to the price and apart from the used looking box everything else was perfect condition and almost brand new looking. I'd pick up any cheap Gamecubes and have a collection of them as i love the things.

Just need a few more games, a wavebird as the only problem i have with the console is that the controller cable si way too short.

Well I modded some ppls 360's they gave me there games I traded them in and preordered a Resident Evil 5 Elite, and I had to spend $80 on it. And then I found a guy and he accepted my trade offer for his HDMI test kit. My offer was that I send him my RE5 Elite and he sends me the test kit and we each pay our own shipping. He sent to me first, let me test it for a week, then I sent him my console. So basically I got a test kit for $80. The test kit is an 07 HDMI kit WITH the side car. With the MS seal still intact. It's the new paper one so that leads me to believe that it has been repaird by MS but hey thats fine because it is newer then what is on the back.

I know I am new.
But, hey, I have to start from something:
I bought an Intellivision (unboxed) for 14€, a Working Sega Saturn with 3 Games for 20€, a RE4 limited edition Nintendo Gamecube + RE4 Sealed for 50€.
I won an Elite 360 (the black one) in a Guitar Hero World Tour Tournament.
A friend of mine gave me his Dreamcast for free.
I found an iMac from the 1998 (the first model) in the street.
Bought for 15€ various games for various console (they were 12, including a SEALED killer instinct gold for the N64 and an Asian Alien Soldier)
And I'll probably buy a Virtual Boy for 50€-80€.

Hmm, some of the best deals...

1. About 5 years ago, I got Street Fighter Zero 3, Samurai Showdown Collection, Fatal Fury Collection, Metal Slug, and Vampire Savior Chronicles for the purchase price of a pizza ;). Those games are ALL very rare, and my friend back then worked at a used game shop and had no use for imports. He bought the games from a guy for 5 bucks total, and gave them to me in the promise that I would buy a pizza for dinner. :D

2. A couple months ago, I got my Nintendo 64 DD collection and Panasonic Q for dirt cheap. The N64 DD came with the DD, the Japanese system, 2 controllers, memory card, Gameboy transfer pack, a Japanese version of F-zero X (to work with the EK game) and every game made for the DD except Doshin 2 and Japan Pro Golf, each with all their boxes, sleeves, cases, instruction booklets, and accessories in mint condition for 400 bucks. I offered him that price, and he took it... the kit is worth MUCH more than that! The Panasonic Q was from the same guy, for just over a hundred.

Think those are the best scores I've had that I can remember. I've gotten a lot of deals, but those are the most memorable :).

Proof positive that haggling is your friend, that 'knowing your salt' about a particular product can help you blag a good deal - and it's always to have a group of friends with you so you can turn £10 notes into shrapnel to make it easier to offer exact figures!

Patience is a virtue - this is probably the first PS2 I've seen at a car boot.
You'll find the best deals and the good stuff at one-off car boots - regular car boots mean you commonly get regular car-booters!
Finally, Keep your eyes peeled and move fast! There's more than likely at least 3 other people at the car boot who want what you want.

Well I was at work today and we had a lady come in with a large bag of 2600 games. My manager just said we could give her $10 for them, which was a lie since they trade in for a few cents a piece. Me and him just put $5 each in the drawer after she left, and took turns picking games. I got 16 games total and one of them was a game I'd never seen before. It's called Harbor Escape and it's made by Panda Inc. Looked it up on Digit Press and it turns out to be a clone of River Raid worth about $40. So I was happy. :icon_bigg

Finally can sell the old toaster now :).

Hope your video output isn't as crappy as mine's. Also, enjoy RF.

You can easily mod them you know. And quite honestly, i dont mind RF on a standard TV.

Either way it's better than not being able to play my games at all. AV cables are great and all, but if the picture looks like crud because the cart isn't ever being read properly, what's the point?

I just got a Panasonic 3do with two controllers and five games for ten bucks at a yard sale! the games I got were
Gex
Need For Speed
Street Fighter 2 Turbo
Wing commander 3 Heart of the tiger
and
Shockwave
so yeah its pretty cool but really REALLY dusty. the people selling it said they didn't even remember that they had it and they found it in their attic and I guess it hadn't been touched in ten years....when I pressed open to open up the disk tray a ton of dust came flying out right in my face

Last week I called all fifteen game stores in my state and not a single one had one.

At any rate, finding it at a yard sale for a tenner is always good. Nice find bro.

EDIT: And also, just because you didnt find one at any game stores by you doesnt mean its rare. I called a few stores around me and found 2 stores that have a 3do. They want like $50 bucks for them though.

Rocket Knight Adventures (complete)
Perfectly fine, working Saturn with all the cords, 11 cruddy games

All for $20. Some other random stuff mixed in there too. Surprising part is, it all works fine.

Wow today was an awesome day. Some guy brought in a bunch of Colecovision and Atari 2600 games CIB, and at the store we don't give much at all for them since we only sell them 50 cents a piece so I offered him $5 cash for the lot, and he was happy to even get that. <_< I just got done checking them on digit press's rarity guide, and I got a hell of a deal some of these are worth a bit!

Colecovision all CIB:
Venture
Roc'n Rope (Most rediculous box art ever)
Spectron (DP - worth $30 loose)
Wing War (DP - worth $35 loose)
Quest for Quintana Roo (DP - worth $25 loose)
Time Pilot
Mouse Trap
Illusions (DP - worth $20 loose)
Miner 2049er
2010 (worth 15 loose, and creepy artwork)

Atari 2600 all CIB (nothing too interesting):
Starmaster
Alien
Phoenix
Asteroids
Berzerk
Solaris
Planet Patrol
Infiltrate
Tron: Deadly Discs

The next items were awesome, it's part of a set of games created by Arcadia, later named Starpath. They use this device called the Supercharger which you connect to a cassette player. Then the games are on a cassette tape. Well I got the first five out of twelve games now, all complete in mint boxes.
Some of the game names are also quite amazing.
1. Phaser Patrol
2. Communist Mutants from Space (Most amazing game name EVER!)
3. Fireball
4. Suicide Mission
5. Escape from the Mindmaster

loose all of these games would be worth $47 according to digit press. So I'd say it's a nice find especially for $5!

A friend of mine was moving to Leeds, only taking one suitcase with him meant he didn't have room for his Xbox. So for £3.10 (all the change in my pocket) i got an Xbox, 11 loose games, DVD remote (2 receivers for some reason), and a MadCatz wireless control pad (seen better days)

Mine today wasn't a purchase or a trade it was a gift from a friend of mine. I went over to a couple friends and walk in and he says he has something for me. He hands me a complete copy of Mega Man on the game gear. He's even more of a collector than me so I know he knows what it's worth. I at first told him I couldn't accept it, but he insists because he knows I want to collect every Mega Man game and knows I will most likely never find a complete copy like this for a low price and know I would do the same for him if I knew there was something he was really wanting to get for his collection. (which is true) He refused to accept payment, but needless to say his bowling will be payed for this weekend!

I am good friends with a guy that owns a stand at the flea market. Three times now, I've been given 2-3 DS Lites for repair, and all he ever wants back is one working one. An hour or so work swapping screens, and BAM! I get a nice load of parts, twice now enough to build up another unit!

I Remeber when i got Socom 3 and the logitech USB headset boxed and everything for half the price of what they were wanting for the game on its own, i'm sure i posted about it here.

I always see stuff were pre-owned copies of games are priced higher sometimes than NEW copies of the same game although usually its when i'm skint.

Gotta love how that works out.

Got a JVC X'EYE for $10 as it was "broken". Turns out it needed a new switch to determine if the lid was closed or not and it was good as new.

I got a brand new copy of Mirror's Edge for the PS3 for a rather tidy £6 today in Morrisons.

If any one else is interested they have Mirror's Edge and some WWF Wrestling game for both the 360 and PS3 for £6. There was also a few random Wii games that were either 6 or 7 quid, like Dragon Quest.

I remember when the Gamecube came out, I wanted to buy a used one, as I didn't have much money at that time...I was searching at ebay and did bid on a new one just for fun (perhaps because the auction ended in a few minutes). And guess what I won! A new Gamecube with 1 controller, Memorycard and 2 games for 60€. I thought that was cheap! :-)
I also have a few games from ebay, I got under 10€, all in Mint condition and boxed.

I got an NES with two pads and a few games for £6. I then sold one of the games for £6 on eBay. :D

Got a White Saturn in a shop sold as untested for £5, it's now chipped with an EU power board.

Got a fat PS2 for £5 as well as an Xbox for £5 in the same shop, both sold as untested. Think the PS2 is a bit dodgy, but the Xbox works great.

Got many great condition Game Boy's for £1 too.

A few years back when I worked at GameStop a guy came in and wanted to get Pokemon for the DS. He had a stack of PS1 games, all in mint condition. GameStop stopped taking PS1 games at this time so I decided to buy him Pokemon in trade of his PS1 games.

I got Breath of Fire III, Final Fantasy VIII, GTA 2, Parasite Eve 2, and to top it all off, Suikoden II. All for $30.

The week before last I got an awesome haul at a few charity shops:
overlord 2 for the 360 (it had been out less than a month) £1

animal crossing w/ memory card gc
harvest moon gc
that wallace and gromit game gc
and a couple of less valuable things for the cube

that spiderman game for the ds

all mint condition boxed w/ instructions, all for £1 each

I sold animal crossing on ebay within 24 hours for £22. (already had a copy)

Also in the last few weeks I got a mint condition parasite eve 2 for ps1 for £1 and a boxed N64 expansion pack for £3 both of which I already had copies of and flipped. I hit a bit of a lucky vein I think, hope it continues!

I saw this at a bootsale and after a few people walked and didn't buy it. I called my girlfriend  (she gets the bargains cheaper) to ask about it. she came back with it for £20.
apparently there were 7 of them from a software company which went bust. Sony took back 6 and left 1. the guy was told to clear the warehouse and he stuck it the back of his van and took it to a bootsale.
