well im in the midlands, and go to about 4 different carboots at the weekend, not all at the same time, i tend to rotate which ones i go to, otherwise keep seeing the same crap week after week, and the wife is pretty cool about it, she comes with me and on occasion got some good deals herself (few weeks ago, she gota m3 cart for the ds with a 1gb card for £5)

As for storage, have got a decent sized garage i keep all the stuff in, but doesnt stay there for long, as it usually on ebay within a week or so, i pretty much earn a living by doing a few hours a week hunting for bargains and re-selling, and as long as i keep the taxman happy (and the wife and kids with their pockets lined) ill keep on going!

Is each car boot sale on every week for you, or do some pop up every fortnight?

Here in Australia, at least where I am, I only have two car boot sales near me, and they swap each week. I've found some awesome stuff from them, and I've had much better luck there than garage sales. Car Boot sales aren't huge over here [due to the lack of.. people :P] but I've found some gems from them.

Not a huge miracle, but I've found three damn copies of Final Fantasy VIII in the last month, from the same Cash Converters store, for 8 or 10 bucks each

well most weekends there are between 5-6 carboot sales within a 20mile radius of where i live, but if i go to the same ones week after week you tent to see the same overpriced crap again and again, so i try to vary which ones i go to

used to love the cash converters by me until it closed down, in the 5 games for £10 deals in there i got loads of ps1 and dreamcast games, inc all the ff series, the breath of fires, vandal hearts, suikoden, grandia, and skies of arcadia, shenume etc for the dreamcast, but alas it was shut down a few months ago as it was being investigated for handling stolen goods (no surprise there!)

oh and got a couple of good deals today, zelda orcania and majora for the n64 for £1.25 each near mint from a charity shop and a dancemat and game for the cube for £2

I see others posted non game related deals. A year back I had to make some room in one of our DCs. We had gear that wasnt in use since 2004 or so due to constant upgrades we go through, so it was either trash it or take it. It took me two trips, but I got:

Clustered pair of Netapp F760's
10 x FC9 shelves(each shelf has 7x36gig FC drives)
2 x spare f760 heads

5 x Sun A1000 arrays(each had 12 x 36gig FC drives)

Apparently the Freecycle guys in Glasgow had a falling out and Freeshare was born. Again I also heard that there was some legal dispute, which seems to go completely against the nature or ethos of such a site. Just try Freeshare in Yahoo groups or via Google to see whether any local groups have sprung up. It is almost the same, albeit different rules (marginally) and fewer people at present.

Basically I was looking through my games as my friend needed some attic space back, after a lot of reboxing I had a box of PS2 promo games and some other junk left over as they included such delights as F1 2001, Tekken 4, Fifa Soccer something or other and lots of other drivel, I asked my friend if he wanted them, he said no, it was too much hassle for him to try and get rid of them, so we basically dumped it in from of a charidy shop before I left, I was leaving the country the next day so...

Toshiba 40" rear projection TV. A friend of mine emailed to say his in-laws were ditching their TV and although it cost them £2k only 5yrs ago they felt it had no value, did I want it?

I actually had to sit and think about it as I felt somewhat guilty. Eventually my friend insisted I accept as he didn't want it and it was probably going to the skip otherwise, so at some point in the next week or so I am taking delivery of a big ass TV...

Incidentally, this was a mate I met via Freeshare! Just to carry on with the discussion about it's virtues! Who the hell thought they'd be offered something like this? Not me that's for sure!

I bought a Panasonic SC-HT930 1000W home theatre system.... for $50. Got it from the warehouse store where I work. Sounds absolutely stunning.... only bad part is the receiver does not have any optical inputs. Surround is then limited to anything the receiver can play internally (DVD, DVD-Audio, etc). Not the greatest for surround gaming, but I don't have the best positioning for my rear speakers anyways, so PL2 will have to do. Still, quite the steal.

I got... Super Smash Brothers, Diddy Kong Racing, and Conker's Bad Fur Day at GameCrazy for $10. Also got two copies of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons and Mario Bros. DX for $10 total. I sold four of the aforementioned six and took in $54 on eBay. I've profited $34 so far, so that counts for something!

GameCrazy is running a 3 games for $10 on all "classic plastic." Basically, anything pre-PS2 is eligible, meaning NES, Genesis, SNES, PS1, (Saturn), N64, Dreamcast.. Gameboy O and Color...

I'm going down there soon to pick up DDR PS1, Parappa PS1, and whatever else in order to resell on eBay for maximum dama--profit.

So guys, if you live in the U.S. (and possibly Canada.. might offer a similar deal), take advantage of this sweet deal. As far as I know, it's going on indefinitely.

They only went on sale this morning, but at this kind of price I suspect it will be a very short promotion. It's quite a sexy looking unit, very simple to set up (took 3mins exactly) and it is silent. Even includes a 5 years warranty!

I am with you on this one! There are items on that cloth that need to be rescued now. That is the most fucked up thing I have seen in months. Hopefully the poster has seen the error of his ways, has managed to obtain the lot and is now toasting our good health with a bottle of PSx wine lol (Don't drink it!)

If he doesn't and comes back with nothing or that silly fucking green boxed PSx lol I will possibly cry myself to sleep tonight as this is just NOT the kind of car boot sale in my area!

Consider the alternative scene:

<Car boot sale in the US. On the rug on the floor you see a black 10millionth edition, a bottle of PSx wine and a nice SCPH-1001, plus some other BBC childrens related shit>

Seller: "Everything is marked as is. Make an offer I'm willing to haggle, but I think you'll find the prices reasonable. Considering those old Playstations are worthless now I might even throw in a free tellytubby..."

You: "Well, I was actually going to buy them at the price marked on them, but Sir, I cannot deny I am feeling guilty right now..."

Seller :"Oh? Why is that, they are genuine units and you can't stop me for selling on my own lawn, are you from the IRS? I am up to date with my tax forms and everything....please don't tell my boss I need to sell my own childrens toys to feed them this week!"

You : "...it's just that I know that black unit over there is worth a lot more...."

Seller : "....how much more?"

You : "Considerably more...."

Seller : "How much is 'considerably'?"

You : "It is a rare 10millionth edition, and I...."

Seller : "Look, just answer the god damned question! HOW MUCH?"

You : "A lot...."

Seller : "Okay, nice meeting you, eBay here we come, don't touch a fucking thing, you are on my land, I mean it I will shoot...damn it I told you <bang, bang, bang!>"

You know you`re watching it on channel 4 now, I wouldnt feel that bad but i reckon the fact i would have a brown pile by my feet and have a funny smell coming off me would indicate to the seller i was pretty interested and jack up the price. I`m actually god at haggling but i would be shaking trying to get this.

Now theres the problem haggling on something you know is worth it can be trouble, i know you didnt have your wallet which was the real problem but it can be a nightmare. My mate was haggling for this antique china and he knew it was a complete steal, he hesitated and started to haggle and this woman came up and goes i`ll give you x amount and the seller took it. huh? That black box was a ps2 I thought. The wine was ps2 but he wanted $30 for it so I said screw it. Anyhow, the playstation was gone when I got back as well as the black boxed ps2. I'm a little sad because that first run playstation is supposed to be worth a lot to audiophiles.

The back box was a ps2 right? It sold for $25, more than double what he wanted for the playstation. He said it was like new too. But I saw the old playstation and focused on that because on ebay there go for a lot. :(

There was an article about the scph100x models made by Parris recently, they were saying that the audio outputted could be compared to high end cd players (often costing $5000 or more). This is where the rumour started that psx`s could be worth that much, in reality i think you would be hard pushed to get $50 for one unless you found the right buyer (someone ill informed) The black playstation appeared to be japanese 10 million model playstation, a very very rare limited edition.

i did that to someone once, it was for an amiga cd32 console, they wanted £10 for it boxed, someone was trying to haggle the price, i saw it, saw the price sticker, shoved a tenner in the sellers hand and walked away! (very fast as the other buyer was a big burly chap with a tattoo on the side of his head!)

as for the black psx, id love one of those to add to my collection

He was asking $25, but not sure what he sold it for. I assume he got that or less. He said it was a US system in mint like new condition. He was pushy on it but I had my sights on the old style playstation because of the audio output on it (there was a video on youtube from G4 channel that said they are worth $5,000!!). I only had $20 on me and I only wanted the playstation. I wonder if he would have taken $20 for the black ps2.

(Isn't $25 USD the same as a tenner in British Pounds or close to it?)

EDIT #3:
I went back to the garage sale and asked if he had any other stuff and he said no. I asked how much the things went for and all FOUR items sold for $40!!! (Including the sealed psone combo and wine). NOW I'M PISSED. I wouldn't have minded picking up the combo unit.

PS_Monitor, you've just missed one of the rarest Sony related console items you are ever likely to have been within 5ft of. A PS2 for $25 is £12.50 and in MINT condition I'd have STILL bought it thinking it was a PS2, got home and been delighted to discover it was a 10millionth edition!

No point crying over spilt milk now, but if the seller got $40 (£20) for the lot then some other lucky ba*tard is out and about in your hometown. Unless they are collectors, then lets expect a very nicely priced item to appear soon on US eBay. (Eyes peeled folks)

As for the supposed $5000 unit (It was actually being hyped to $6000), it's not worth a fraction of that.

Imho it's worth no more than $100 in mint, boxed and pristine condition to a PS fan. Audiophiles expected a $6000 sounding CD player are going to be disappointed and paying anything above $100 is a waste.

Well, it's a valuable lesson for future bargain hunting (although THAT was just an unbelievable bargain) - don't hesitate. At those prices you could afford to fuck up! $40 is peanuts when collecting consoles. But hey, it's not worth worring about now.

If you want to know more about the Sony PS1 10millionth edition, just type it into Google. Nice bit of kit and in that condition it would have fetched a lot more than the SCPH-1001. :-(

Wow, I feel hurt just reading all that.

The best finds I ever found were RE:CVX for the Gamecube for 8 dollars at GameCrazy, and LoZ: Collector's Edition for GCN at a flea market for $20. I resold both for a little over twice their value. Man, and I thought I came upon good finds...

GameCrazy is doing 2 for $5 on all pre-PS2 games in the U.S.A., at least in my area (California).

Wow, my eyes still hurt reading that.

Got Excite Truck for the Wii for 27 USD. Regularly sells here in Mexico for about 70 USD.

It was strange, at first only Ubi Soft games for Nintendo consoles had price reductions (all Wii games for 27 dollars, al Gamecube games for 17 dollars, all DS games at 30 or less) wich I tought made sense, since Ubisoft has local distribution (compared to Nintendo, wich has none, so everything Nintendo is super expensive. I'm paying 400 dollars for the Wii, for instance, the cheapest price I have been able to find here)

But now seems the local Wal-Marts are just randomly lowering prices for Wii games. I got to see Call of duty for 27 too. Unfortunately they no longer stocked Rayman :(

A few months ago I was lucky to pick up a boxed, almost unused Sega Mega CD I for £9 at a carboot sale. I returned last week to take another look and was amazed to find a fully complete Nes Rob Robot Delux Set for £25 being sold by the same seller. Guess these boot sales are quite good afterall.

welcome to my world! i go to the as much as possible, sometimes comeback with crap and othertimes get some real gems off there, yesterday picked up a box full of boxed mastersystem and megadrive games for 10p each, inc bubblebobble, streets of rage 1,2,3, phantasy star, and a mastersystem to megadrive2 converter!

Yeah, theres definitely a lot of very low quality 'basic' consoles found on the boot fairs, half of them that are in such poor state that they probably don't work even if the dealer says otherwise. Then theres always the other side where the dealer overvalues his products, so it would actually be cheaper to buy of ebay or equivalent. Amid all this there are bargains out there, not easy to find, but possible nontheless, and worth the effort in digging them out.

I found that I had an old iMac DV in the attic I had forgotten about. It was a spare unit I had previously plundered for parts. Anyway a mate of mine was looking for parts and I said he could have it for free. He turned up for it and handed over a brand new Sagem myX6-2 mobile 'phone, just when I was about to ditch my old Sony mobile!

He repairs mobile 'phones and apparently he bought a bulk load, so lucky old me!

Talking about CDIs...

Today I got a CDI 210 with 42 discs for about 30 dollar from a nice lady "cleaning up the garbage". The funny thing. Two cds were rather special. She said to me "I have these two discs, I got it from my neighbour who used to work at the CDI division, it was only for internal use so you probably don´t want it". Well, I said, if you going to throw it away I COULD take it if you don´t want it anyway... Ahhh :)

One cd is a kind of web browser (I think) promoting Eindhoven and some other companies but since it is in dutch im not sure what is suppose to do. The other cD is more interesting, called "mission on music" marked june 1995, public affairs and is some kind of internal propaganda cd where you have four songs with pro philips propaganda. It even has a karaoke mode :)

Do anyone know a rarity guide on cdi? Would be interesting to look up the other stuff..

I once got the most MONSTER collection of retro games for £100 off a friends brother who needed the money fast.

I was not a collector at the time so I sadly sold most of it.

But included was:-
3 x PC Engines and 30-40 games
Snes and 40 boxed games
Megadrive and Mega CD and 32X and loads of games
SMS,NES,Gameboy,and other common stuff
Loads more stuff like Game and Watch I can no longer remember!

What made it so good, was all games were good ones, all mint and all boxed.

I also have my own toy/game shop and get loads of people bring stuff in and say"I just wanna get rid of it",not a good thing to say(got 2 Streets of Rage 3 in one week for £1 each).

Are the sonic comic really worth that much? as i have a box full of them in the loft, plus most of the original annuals, and some obscure adventure gamebook things as well

It depends on what you have and when you sell it.

In the UK market (i'm going by ebay here) early editions of Sonic the Comic sell for peanuts whereas the late editions (issue 150 onwards) sell for a little bit more. Some of the last issues can go up to £30 a comic.

Annuals don't sell for much.

Poster magazines always fetch around £10-30 each.

In the US market the early editions and mid issues such (about 99-140) sell for more as do the special editions and spin off series.

What I purchased from ebay was an independent promotion (see picture) and comes in two varieties US or UK edition, the US one being the more sought after due to its limited numbers, smaller size and the fact that its printed on recycled paper as apose to the glossy format of the UK version (and therefore harder to preserve.)

I already have a UK copy and I've also sold one which went for £75 but as this purchase proves; it just depends on whose looking. At this moment in time Sonic comic auctions are slim on the ground and amazingly I managed to get this for so little.

I hope that answers your question and sorry everyone for going OT please move/delete if necassary.

Several years ago I found a Super Wild Card DX2 for the SNES on a sunday market. A kid on a blanket was selling it, I wonder how he got it to begin with, he wasnt even born when those were popular :)

Anyway he asked 1 Euro for it, to be fair I gave him 10 and he was very happy. Back then Super Wild Cards sold for around 200+ Euros, by now they seem to have dropped. Anyway I used the thing for myself and not profit, I sold it when I moved to Japan though :( That was my only ever "miracle find"

I have found some pretty great deals at the local shop the past couple days. I searched through a bargain bin of 500+ discs and found:

PSX - Intelligent Qube $2.50
PSX - G Darius $2.50

In another bin I found PS2 Suikoden III for $7.99. I thought it was a mistake since most shops charge $24.99 used for it.

And finally today I asked about Chaos Field for GC and he said he would special order it for me from another store....the price??? FREE! It is zeroed out in their system but not blacklisted so I just had to pay $6.00 for shipping.

*Non-game-related*

I found in a montreal's HMV a Dream Theater cd entitled "Live Scenes from New-York" with the original cover, featuring the liberty statueand the two towers burning, it was released Septembre 11 2001 :oh:. This was took out of the shops as soon as the tragedy happened and replace with one with another cover, much more appropriate for the date.

I found it in the "metal" section in June 2007 and it was 40% off because it was old, it seems like this one is a real survior ...

This might sells for a little fortune later, but for now I paid it like 30$ and could sell it for 80$.

My only true miracle find...

I've got a couple crazy finds... Most recently was a PS2 Test for $70, which was hiding in the trade-in pile at the store I work at. I bought a Super Famicom Street Fighter 2 Turbo for $6 and a Famicom Contra for $5 at Value Village. Found a Sega Saturn with all the cords, 2 controllers, and 5 games next to the dumpster in my old apartment building (that place was great! everyone left old computers down there!). Got a boxed complete NES Zelda, Super Mario, and Dragon Warrior for $10 each. Bought a Korean Goldstar 3DO for $20 with Need for Speed and a controller (had to swap the transformer since it was for 220v).

Best one, though; when I still worked for Radioshack, they were throwing out their video game cabinet, so naturally it made it's way into my apartment complete with the Nintendo and Playstation branded shelves and the backlit Playstation sign. Picture linked here...

I found a Super A'Can w/ 2 games (Sango Fighter & Son Of Evil) for about $22 US. The seller was in South Africa though, and despite me offering to pay for shipping + a bonus fee, he refused to ship out of the country. :-(

Flea markets are one of the best places to find those "miracle" purchases in my opinion. Gotten a lot of SMS games for a couple $ a piece. Got an Atari with about 50 games for $10 once at the flea market down the street from where I grew up.

Pretty awesome find I would say though. Gonna keep em' or sell em'?

I get stuff for free all the time. A friend of mines aunty runs the local charity shop and because they cannot sell un-tested electrical goods (Consoles) or anything they can't test because of this fact (Games) she bags them up and gives them to me. All she asks in return is a few hours labour maybe once every 3 months when they change all the store around.

Recent goodies from there -

Boxed SMCD 2
ZX Spectrum with about 300 games
Complete snes games including super metroid, zelda and donkey kong

Recent car boot goodies -

Pikmin 2 for cube - £3
Evolution snowboarding for cube - £4
Super Smash Tennis for cube - £6 (Brand new)

My best ever wild finds -

Complete AVP for Jaguar - £1
Snes with 18 games (Metroid, All DK games, Kirby, Secret of Mana) all boxed and minty - £15
Sealed masters of combat for sms - £5

As it turns out, the clerk removed the tax twice, impressed how the no tax sale got me the game for free. I even asked her, "is that right?", so she had pleanty opportunity to demonstrate her knowledge of math.

Alas, free Dragon Quest: Swords for me. :)

This happened about 11-12 years ago. I was working at the time with this guy who got the idea that he wanted to be a video game programmer and developer. He purchased the Net Yaroze from Sony for like $750.00 to help him try and reach this goal. Well to make a long story short, he got bored with the idea after a week of messing with the Yaroze and he traded it to me for my stock grey Playstation. I've had it ever since.

I got an antique table from the compactor at my apartment complex the other week. It's beautiful and the person that put it in there obviously wanted it to be retrieved as it was carefully placed near the front.

I was going to leave it but decided it was worth the walk of shame. I reckon it is worth a fair bit as it is very finely made, mahogany and obviously quite old. Why it was discarded I have no idea. I just hope it is not cursed...

Man, that's awesome. :D

Myself, I think I got a good deal recently. $60 for a small lot of game systems.

- An original "toaster" NES, already with the 72pin cart connector fix in it.
- An original "wide" Sega Genesis. No serial port, but I could just add one. ;)
- A 2nd generation "small" Sega Genesis.
- A 32X. Missing the passthrough cable, but I'm pretty sure I've seen the scematics out there.
- One controller for each, video, and power cables.
- A game for each.

Again, $60 (Canadian).

Recently picked up a Sega Saturn - got a boxed console inc. 10 games and an Action Replay, worked out around £10 total (was part of a bigger lot off evil bay). Later found copies of Jpn Panzer Dragoon 1&2 and Bomberman, £2 each in a charity shop!

The only other thing I can think of is the time I bought a MD action replay - inside the box was a later model Datel CDX. Although that was a complete fluke!
