Well to update everyone I have successfully finished the beta of my project, when I get the tools I will move on to upgrading the box with a Xbox 360 controller and I will figure out what to do with the disc tray. Here is the video of what I currently have.

http://www.veoh.com/browse/videos/category/technology_and_gaming/watch/v18708853yG4CRnJy

all parts are super glued to the case obviously its not the neatest case mod but there is literally nothing more you can do to fit something so big into something so small, otherwise this project would have been more professionally done with usb ports ect...

As for the backstory I got the idea when my friends and I were relaxing and having a "That 70's show" moment (if you catch my drift, which oddly enough is where all my breakthrough ideas happen...) and listening to stranglehold by Ted Nugent. I sat there and looked at my friend and I remembered he had an Xbox1 he said he didn't use anymore so I offered to buy it off him, he declined and gave it to me for free a week later and I began this project. Its not that big of a deal and all I really used was an all purpose screw driver, Yard shears, Krazy Glue, and a hammer lol. Overall this project took me 4 hours to complete and 2 more hours to then go back and glue everything down.

Okay so I literally bled and pored sweat over this project. Okay so what I have set up is I removed all components from xbox 1 and removed the metal casing from the xbox 360 case and then I carefully fit the power supply and the motherboard and the hard drive and fan along with the controller components and the power chip all in the correct area inside the bare 360 plastic case, I even got the controller port for the xbox 1 where the usb ports used to be and the power/eject button are placed correctly for the case and I had to cut the fan a bit so it fit inside and glued the bottom down to the plastic so it doesn't topple onto the heatsyncs. I did some minimal cutting in the back for the VGA card but the ethernet and power supply fit snuggly in their correct ports. Heres the problem I put the case all back together (everything is not bolted down and the power supply is upside down and they are free inside the case but the parts fit so snuggly they don't move or bump one another even when rotating the 360...) But I can't figure out what to do with the disc drive it so huge I have it hanging out the hard drive port on the 360 right now sitting ontop of the case I want it to look nice though... However I'm just about to bolt down the disc drive to the top but I wanted to know if anyone had any other suggestions...

Also do you think upside down power supply will cause fire? So far no burning or funny smells or anything but just making sure...

That's an awesome idea. Unfortunately I don't have any helpful suggestions.

I did some research and there was a topic on the net about getting a pc disc drive to function as a Xbox 1 disc drive, I figured with a converter I could take a 360 disc drive and and use it as an xbox 1 drive but then I read that the PC drive (or a 360 drive in my case) must be slaved with an original xbox drive as a master kinda making it pointless... I guess its just going to hang out the side...

Maybe I can get something to make it look like an external disc drive or something... I hope so anyway...

How about removing the controller board from the original drive and using that as a master for the new drive, ie removing all the mechanical components and enclosure so you can fit it in the box somewhere.

If you can use a good PC drive use a laptop drive with a converter off ebay. Cheap. I also liked to attempt this project but Im low on cash :P

@aryssoR, That would be a great idea except the components are too clunky and the back has different ports so that means I must do cutting as well and atm I don't have a plasma cutter.

@kiwidoggie, This would work except every PC disc drive requires you to slave it to the original xbox drive, there is no way to just replace the drive as far as I know...

I actually meant fitting it as well as the new drive, not inside the new drive, you wouldn't need to cut it at all.

just a theory though, I assumed the Xbox DVD-ROM was a near standard piece of kit like the other compnents in there

You're very limited. There is one specific model (where after flashing the rom) will work on the xbox, and since it's PC based, the laser is of much higher quality and its 16x as opposed to 8x read speed.

My cowoker has a modded xbox with such a device.

Yes but that drive is kreon and its clunky as well. I have the disc drive hanging outside on its side it looks like an external disc drive so its not all bad. I recorded a video with ustream but since its being difficult at the moment I will show the video then. The project was a success.

Hah, just pick up a busted HD-DVD drive and mount the xbox drive in that. :D Probably too much trouble, but it'd be such a hoot if completed.

I actually thought of this, its funny you mentioned it. However I have no clue where I'm going to get a hd-dvd case, yet again I'll need the plasma cutter as well. The project is currently in its Beta stage (alpha being the loose parts inside the xbox non mounted) I plan to do something with the DVD drive and also am going to make a 360 controller for the Xbox1.

Anyway for what I have so far I am uploading video shortly with backstory...

Perhaps you could establish with your co-worker what the make and model is for this guy.
