that's right I've killed my PC. I was changed the CPU frequency in the BIOS. The mini was 133 and max was 165 or there abouts. So I changed it to max to see if the PC would run faster but now it won't even boot!!!

Is it possible to reset the BIOS even thought the PC wont boot or have I basically just gone and killed it?

Please help. I'm having to type this on the Wii and while I can use my USB keybaord, the interface is turd.

Pull the battery out for a bit/jumpers?

Doing 5 minutes of google research leads me to believe that removing the battery from your motherboard for a few minutes will reset all the bios settings to stock values.

I tried that guys but it still won't woprk./ Took the battery out for 15 minutes. I'll leave it out for an hour and see what happens

Yakumo. If possible check about your motherboard for a little white or black jumper which is called cmos reset, cmos...etc and it should be covering two pins (say 1 and 2 as an example) with there also being one next to it (say 3 as an example) which is left uncovered, Just take it and instead of it being placed on pins 1 and 2 place it so its covering pins 2 and 3.

i'd then connect it back up to mains for a few seconds then unplug it and switch the jumpers back into cover pins 1 and 2 then that should reset your bios as thats what mines does and others i've seen.

Hopefully this can help you if the battery thing doesn't.

Thanks a million, 3do.

That Jumper trick worked a treat. That got the PC up and running plus whipped the mess that I made of the BIOS.

A lot of newer motherboards are even cool enough that if you boot holding Insert (on mine) it will boot with default settings, so you don't have to crawl around in that dusty disgusting labrynth that most people call a "floor".

Well, she can piss me off to the extent that I want to smack her in the face! So at those times I just walk out. Japanese women really can be ultimate bitches I can tell you. Cold hearted, never admit to facts that put down Japanese (Japanese are always right you see) and so, so suborn. I never had such problems with English women.

Women....

Remember last time you had PC problems and it was caused by your wife? That was a good laugh lol.

Glad to see your PC is ok though.

Actually that's been around since the early Pentium 1 days back when I worked at a computer store in the mid 90s. :D It's a great trick!

If you still want to try to overclock your cpu do it step by step and maybe get a better cooler to get higher.. going from the minimal to the max is just too much to ask from that poor cpu :)
Each step you go up you should stress test it with some games and loads of stuff running to see if it stays stable if it does enjoy if not go back.

This thread... it made me chuckle

I'm curious though, Yakumo what kind of CPU do you have? Obviously the 133 and 165 are your bus speeds, so I'm also wondering if you know what your multi was set at? What kind of cooling are you using, stock HSF?

General rule of thumb:

If you feel the need to overclock your PC, you probably need to upgrade ;-)

What are you talking about, I overclock as soon as I get the latest and greatest parts out of the box and into my PC

I'm curious though, Yakumo what kind of CPU do you have? It's a P4 2.8ghz.

I'm also wondering if you know what your multi was set at? What kind of cooling are you using, stock HSF?I've got the standard whopping big fan on the chip with that crystal paste over the chip but that's normal I guess. On the back of the case is another fan sucking hot air out.

Exactly, as soon as i got my CPU it was a quick windows set-up with security then benchmarking software and i began overclocking, same when i upgraded to a new motherboard and also same when i got a graphics card.

I'm not one of these people who can afford to get the best components all the time so i get the absolute best i can and then overclock to get some extra performance.
