1.02

Is this verstion of FIRMWARE known as a Test / Demo?

If so would the console have TEST on it?

There is no Demo 1.02 firmware, there are retail and test/debug versions of it.

Some consoles have the test markings (DECHX00X) (X is A or J) while some don't (DECHX00XS) (used for trade shows) or prototypes.

You should take a look at the sticker under it.

Later :)

What if the case is a clear one, well smoky black, no serial number and no TEST on the front?

Software version.

Hey bro,

what are you trying to accomplish? Can you load dev or test firmware on your ps3? Will that allow for compatibility with preview and review codes?

Probably a Prototype console then, their cases are more see-through than retail ps3's. Doesnt it have a Prototype sticker under it?
Also, it should have debug settings in the settings(marked with a star) and possibly a install pkg option under game in xmb(not sure if this early fw has that though).

I was about to ask the same thing about the proto sticker, the kit should be a proto none the less.

It should have a few extra secttings in the setting collumn such as NP Environment, if so then it is a debug firmware, otherwise it is a retail one, it shoudl also have the installed packages option (on the early debug firmwares it looks like an update icon with a star next to it)

is there any reference for this kit ? underneath it or anything ?

Yeah it is definitely a debug console, you should try updating it. A few updates were leaked including the 2.52 one.
