Done Messing with it. For sale.

Been reading these forums for a long time, love reading about this stuff. Thought for my first thread I would give something back by taking some Hi-Res pics of my Dev.Cas unit I just got. Also trying to figure out what cable I should use to power it that I already would have, I have so many power cables for consoles that one of them must work on this. Thought instead I might ask here before I use the wrong one and take the chance of frying this nice unit. Anyway enjoy the pics and feel free to use them for whatever also feel free to hotlink away.

So you won the recent eBay auction. Congratulations!

I'll use the images in my site. Thanks.

The labeling is confusing. It says DC above the input, but the bottom says AC 100V. The bottom label may just be a way of extending the console's labeling since it's hidden above the Dev.Cas unit and may have nothing to do with the development hardware. I would start with a DC transformer at around 9V with a current rating of 300mA (and then up an amp if needed).

If you don,t mind opening it and taking a pic, we could certainly figure out what voltage is needed!

You should try the lowest possilbe voltage first, as at least it won't fry!

I will definitely be opening it and taking lots of pictures. If I do not get to it today it might be about 10 days until I do, as I am getting on a plane tommorow at 4am for a flight cross country.

BTW Some possibly useful info for future reference.... The DIP switches have not been changed that is how I got it in the mail.

Ok found some time to open it up but it uses a security bit that I somehow didn't have so I ordered the bit I need. Should be here when I am back from my trip, will take pictures then.

It looks like a Torx bit, probably somewhere around T10. Lowes carries a nice 6-piece Torx kit by Kobalt for around $6.

I would imagine it's similar to my HKT-1130 and thus wants DC 9V 850mA max.

Mine mercifully came with a label, so I dodn't have to test it:

I've uploaded a few of my images from dismantling the HKT-1130 here:
http://korpstorm.deviantart.com/gallery/#_browse/scraps

Sorry about the quality. I always take lots and lots of images when dismantling just to make sure I don't miss any detailts I'll need later, but I usually do it with a camera phone and pretty much don't care about how they will end up looking in a photo album...

Look a bit clooser, i't Torx based, but with a spike in the middle. You will usually find one of those in any of the "odd-bits-set" of bits you can buy in well equipped tool stores.

And for the record: My DIP-switches where also in that position when delivered.

I would love to get a bios dump of the dreamcast console :)

If the set 5.24 unit is anything to go by, the dip switch settings indicate that it's running through the AV cable in self-test mode, so you should see something (most likely diagnostics) when you power it up the Dev.Cas unit and run the Dreamcast (but you'll probably need a disc of some sort if it's not running a modified BIOS).

And I see it now, Storm. You're right, it is the security type.

Called a security torx or something. Xbox controlers use them.

You can easily replace the end on the transformer with the correct adapter. Take the unit into Radio Shack or whatever electronics parts store is closest to you and have them determine the correct size.

Also be sure to note what polarity the unit is expecting. The transformer you bought is center-pin negative. Storm, which way is your transformer?

Storm
05-08-2009, 05:03 AM
I'm not 100% sure right now*, but looking at the pictures I'm 99% sure the centre in is supposed to be +, the shield looks like it's hooked up to the ground plane. The chances of letting out the blue smoke by getting the polarity wrong are slim, but I don't want to be responsible for that, so double-check.

* I use a variable voltage transformer with replaceable connectors and reversable polarity, and it's not currently assembled for connection to the HKT-11.

Bought one of these
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y83/shadowfamicom/Pic01Item113238.jpg

6 detachable plugs
Output: 500mA - 3, 4.5, 6, 7.5, 9, 12V DC

I know its not the right mA rating but wanted to test the size of the plugs and could not find one to fit as it should. Got one that was close but it was still in too loose. Might just have to suck it up and go to "The Shack".

Thanks in advance for anymore ideas anyone can think of.

Also if anyone has a power cable that they think might work I will gladly buy it from them with paypal at a fair price (that is if the radio shack venture still doesnt work out).
