Some cool stuff there :smt023
I sort of regret selling my Saturn & Dreamcast dev kits and all the prototypes & GD-Rs, but damned finances got too tight :smt022
Ahh well, I'll rebuild my collection bigger and better than before some day :smt033 Perhaps If I can get a job this christmas then I'll be able to buy me some more prototypes & dev kits :smt023
Any idea which companies owned your hardware? I also got 2x PAL PSX Debuggers - 1 of them came from Silicon Dreams

Hi, thanks for your interest and the many 'praying' emotions, lol, nice touch m8 :smt023
...Anyway going back to the 5,600 ltd U.K 'green Xbox's', 'Yes' this figure is 'pretty' accurate (I will only try to quote figures that I'm fairly sure of)
...Hence why I listed the 'Special Edition Launch Team Xbox' as being only a handful of units, as a handful was all that was required / allowed.
...Although production line figures can be 'adjusted' to suit I'm fairly confident that in this particular instance the figure of 5,600 units is true and was achieved.
...Of course many other 'green Xbox's' have been made for other 'uses' and 'other' countries but thats not relevant to your original question :)

I have a question for you oldengineer.
In one of your pics, you show an XBOX debug console along with some beta discs.
Among one of them is a Shenmue 2 work-in-progress disc. Can you tell me how far along the game is on that disc and if it has or lacks any features from the final build?

Hi thanks for your interest m8.
As for the content of the beta coded Shenmue 2 dual-layer disc I would have to check it out again sometime to be totally sure.
...From memory the game doesn't lack anything, quite the reverse.
...In fact I would go as far to say that its probably got more features than the retail release!

einbebop44:
Glad you like the NPDP-Console, its a really nice piece of kit, definately one of my 'personal faves'.
The games and apps on the NPDP-carts are very cool as well :-)
...The 'nice' thing with the carts is that u can 'fill' it with say four 'different' version of the same game and compare all four versions systematically without having to burn/swop disc's etc.
...As it happens I've just got another cart so that makes four now!
...The NPDP-GDEV is the 'ultimate' Gamecube Dev Kit though, it's on the site, along with the other 90% of stuff, lol.
...If u get chance check it out m8, that will run NPDP-carts and .gcm/.iso images via a P.C fitted with a 'custom' SCSI Emulator board :-)

Ahhh, yes, I wondered how they was gonna do it, now I can reveal...
There's two parts to the pillow (don't laugh:-)
...There's a blow up 'cushion' part, which you blow up and then slip into the 'life-size' pillow case !!!
Viola! you end up with an Xbox, ltd controller, 2 disc game pack, manual, DVD remote and dongle and a snazzy pillow 'kit' all in one neat package :-)

Ohh...I was sort of expecting it to be a traditional pillow...with the cotton/down filling. I had no idea that it was one of those air cushion types.
Oh and before I forget, which optical drive did your system come with? Samsung, Thomson, or other?

I hear that all of the Kasumi Xboxes have come with Thompson drives. I've also heard that the motherboards are all V1.0.

...I can confirm that the Kernal =4034 and the Dash =4920 (build date =01/09/04).
...Thus I would agree that the Motherboard is likely to be an 'early' version, such as a Ver 1.0
Hope this helps :smt023

That's a bit odd, especially considering how many people complained about the Thomson drives in previous models. Oh well, I guess if it starts to act up you could always swap it! :)

My friend's Thompson is starting to crap out ("dirty disc" error), but he's had his since launch.
My Xbox is starting to worry me, though. It shut off in the middle of a game of Halo 2. Then again, it was on for about 8-9 hours straight. I assume it just overheated.

not particularly since the samsung drives in the new crystal/1.6 xboxs have a new trype of samsung drive which reads less media. It still isnt as bad as a thompson, although it isnt the best drive you can get in an xbox (its middlish of the pack, the old one 1.1-1.4 was excellent since it could read almost anything!) :smt023

...Just added Nintendo Dolphin NPDP-GBOX, thought I might as well take a pic of it whilst I was 'playing' ;-)
I just noticed in the pic of the rear NGDP-GDEV unit that the sticker says "Manufactured by Hudson Soft" ???

Thats correct, because my GDEV was one of only a few Final Hardware BETA kits made by Hudson for Nintendo.
...Later kits don't usually mention Hudson at all, they just say "licensed by Nintendo"
here's the GDEV promotional advert that Hudson used to have on their site:
"Hudson has been producing game software from the early days of the microcomputer. We've developed our game software with effective internal methods on existing hardware. We've even created an original platform suitable for our game software.
For game connoisseurs, the "PC Engine" brings warm memories. Hudson provided all the technology for the chip system known internally as "C62". We developed the entire platform including the semiconductor chips, OS, development environment, storage media and related technology. We sublicensed the entire package and then provided a long list of successful software for the console.
Our comprehensive knowledge of the game business has helped us to create useful middleware for the current generation of game platforms.
"NPDP-GDEV" is a development tool compatible with Nintendo's Gamecube platform. We developed this tool in conjunction with Nintendo. They have been shipped to developers all over the world as the de facto standard for Nintendo Gamecube development.
We've learned that developing tools to help game software developers depends on supporting the designer's needs. Our close relation to game software developers and their feedback are essential to creating successful user-friendly systems".

First off are both the kits you have marked as 'Beta'?
...If they are then thats fine and thats the reason for the Hudson sticker.
...If not then they have probably have slightly 'later' (the same in real terms) hardware inside an older case, which again was 'normal' practice.
In other words early cases carried the Hudson sticker and later cases can carry a Nintendo sticker.
...I guess it must of taken a while to use up the Hudson stickers though, before moving to the Nintendo variety! :)

Welcome Kevster.
It really helps to be in the business...
...If you can't get into the business then you've come to the right place in any case!
ASSEMbler Forum is as good a place as any to find what ever you are looking for...
...Sod's law dictates that it's bound to turn up one day or other.
Enjoy ;)

That LAMBORGHINI game loks really nice, how does it play?
It plays beautifully.
A really nice game, lots of challenges and quite difficult to master to the degree of making money to continue the game.
...Everything you could wish is there, damage cost's money to repair and with near / actual 200mph cars, damage is tricky to avoid and costly to put right.
...A nice touch, as you play the game you get people that want to race you 'unofficially' for money, its up to you whether you accept, or not.
...Cars are lovely as you would expect from an official license.
...Handling is extremely well managed.
...Tracks are perfect.
...All in all a really well put together game, thanks for your interest.
I played Lamborghini at the Games Convention in 2002. It was really wonderfull.

Wow! thats fantastic, thanks for sharing that photo and the story, that's super!!!
...Did they let you play the full Live! game or was you restricted to a demo?
as far as I know you could choose between 2 tracks.
there was also a competition: the player with the best time could win a racing pod from Thrustmaster. I should have some more photos and even videos from it.
edit: sorry the price was not an xbox.

Never released 'cos the company went under :(
...And 'Yes' I have a version that will play on a modded Xbox ;)
...I have three versions, the 'pressed' demo, the full 'pressed' locked to Beta Live! H/W ver, and a full Beta Live! ver that doesn't require a Beta Live! BIOS to run! if that makes sense :-s
Rage got bankrupt before they could finish the game.
here are some screenshots of the video. unfortunately I have it only on DVD. I sold my video camera last year.
