Hi,

as such a thread didn't exist yet, I though it was time to create one :110:. I have attached links to some of the more interesting documentation files for the PS2 hardware; nothing new for old school members, but it might be useful to have them all listed in one location.

If you have any other files you want to contribute to this thread, please respond or PM so I can add them to the first post.

Contributors in alphabetical order (see Contents Overview and Update History below for details):
ChiefPFF, lherre, Ralek, unclejun

Contents Overview
The Service Manuals are just that: official Sony service manuals, including Exploded Views, Block Diagram, Printed Wiring Boards, Schematics and Electrical Parts Lists. Attached to the one for the SCPH-30000 series is the official disassembly manual, just in case anyone wants to know how a PS2 shall be disassembled The Official Way ;-).
Many thanks to lherre and ChiefPFF for providing some of these manuals.

Hardware Documentation includes the manuals from the PS2 Linux Kit (English). According to Ralek, these manuals are identical to the one from the v5 documentation set. The SPU2 overview manual is missing in the PS2 Linux kit.
Many thanks to Ralek for providing a full version 6 documentation set (including SPU2) and to unclejun for providing the v4 SPU2 overview manual as well as the complete PS2 2001 Technical Reference Disc .

The Sony Libraries section includes the DNAS SDK (NoHDD Version) Release 3.0. Many thanks to lherre for providing this file!

Some people might wonder about the LSI Logic 1394 Documentation and how they are related to the PS2. In fact, the 1394/FireWire/i.Link controller of the earlier models (SCPH-30000 series) uses parts from the 1394 Lead Vehicle discussed in one of these documents (the other ones describe related controllers, which is needed sometimes to understand the big one). So, if anybody wants to use 1394 in his homebrewn programs, these documents could proof really useful, as there is no other documentation on the PS2 hardware registers related to this port.
Of course, the PS2 uses a different base address and not all registers are mapped; for example, some DMA-related ones are missing. However, PHT, UBUF (for PIO-mode data transmissions) and also DMA are available and work well .

Special thanks to sp193 for providing these additional information:
All registers are available, except for these registers:

0x058 Encoded Interrupt Priority
0x0CC DBUF Watermarks Register 0
0x0D0 DBUF FIFO Size Register 0
0x14C DBUF Watermarks Register 1
0x150 DBUF FIFO Size Register 1

DMA support is working and fully functional, and the PHY can be accessed.

Other bits and Pieces includes stuff that didn't fit into any other section. "DVD-ROM Block Adjustment JIG" and "Basic Process of Adjustment for DVD-ROM" are a kind of "cheat sheet" for servicing a PS2's optical drive. The first page lists the required hardware and software tools (including a picture of the official service hardware), the second one provides a brief overview of the software tools. The software tools themselves are not included :katamari:.
"Serial Label Operating Standard for PS2" provides information on how console serial numbers are handled.
Last but not least, I uploaded some scans of the DTL-T10000 instruction manual (english part only).

Best regards,
SilverBull

I have a hardcopy of the DTL-P11007 (SPU2 Overview) manual version 3, but unfortunately its in japanese :banghead:. However, parts of the technical reference information (register names, parameter value encodings etc.) are in english, so one could possibly get some information out of it. Could make some hi-res scans if there is any interest, but that would have to wait a few weeks until I can get back to where it is located.

Ah, that's a shame. I was after a more general overview of the chip's capabilities, rather than low-level stuff. It's probably not worth your hassle scanning it in, but if you were going to scan it anyway, I'd still be interested in taking a look.

There is an error in the first post, but I'm sure that SilverBull just didn't update it:[...]Thanks for spotting :cool-new:. You are right, I really didn't update this post for a long time. I don't remember why I thought the PHY was not accessible; I have actually been using the PHY access register in Kermit from the start, to perform bus resets when DBGCORE gets loaded.

By the way, I think your list contains an error as well: 0x54 UBUF Receive Level is indeed accessible, at least from the EE and on the systems Kermit runs on. I use it to check for inbound data...

You're right. Well, I did just copy that list of registers from an old post at the forums ps2dev.org, after removing the registers from the list that were present (But obviously, I did miss the UBUF Receive level). D:

I've been documenting the IOP module API's and the DMAC's registers (Including our findings on DMAC #3), so do you think that would it be a good idea to add a link to my page once it's complete?

Thanks, but they all seem to require an account (albeit free, but still... ). I would really like to avoid that, for the same reason as I want to avoid torrents.

Mediafire doesn't require an account to download files. (At least, it didn't require me to log in when I last downloaded files from it's servers)

SilverBull was talking about uploading files; and he's right, these all require an account for that. No account needed for download though, just like you mention.

I'll see if I can find one that does not require account for uploading; else I'll try to setup and FTP.

This is much appreciated. I'd offer more in thanks, but checksums are the best I have to offer. Cheers.

Heads up all those links are now unusable.

Hi,

as such a thread didn't exist yet, I though it was time to create one :110:.

Best regards,
SilverBull

It seems like some of the files have been terminated again. :(

What does the "Serial Label Operating Standard" document contain exactly? Does it document something related to customer service like the procedure on how the consoles' serial numbers are to be handled when a console is received, or does it document something technical how the serial numbers are verified/generated?

I'm personally interested in knowing how the serial numbers are generated, as I'll love see what the serial number of a console can tell us about the unit itself...

Thanks for the upload!

Well, the document talked about how serial numbers are handled by SCEE... but nothing about how they are generated/verified. Oh well.
