View Full Version : Weird problem with PAL SNES lockout??

Hi all,

I'm having a really strange problem with my PAL SNES.

I've not modded it yet (though I think I will now) and I have a PAL copy of Super Mario All Stars.

When I put the game in, it comes up telling me the game was not intended for use with my SNES... WTF?

It's 100% a PAL SNES (I replaced the yellow case with that of a dead Jap Famicom.. does the region lock out go that far?? :lol: ) and the game is deffo PAL.

Maybe the lockout chip is dead or something? Really stupid question but, did SMAS carts suicide?

Also, I can't seem to find any links to mod a SNES anymore and I also read that a while back there was a way to make sure ALL region lockout was bypassed, does anyone know of a good link for this or tutorial to follow?

Anyway, any help is warmly welcomed and sorry for the long winded post :)

You maybe shorted something. Check all connections, I can play SMAS JAP withouth any problems in a moded SFC.

I just got my US SNES working so afterall, I don't want to mod anything really now.

I think my cart is screwed though. All other games work but this one.

BTW, I have not modded my PAL SNES so it's not a short or anything.

A short doesn't have to be the result of a modification attempt. It's easy enough for something to fall into the cart slot, or for a jumper or a bad capacitor to shake loose and get stuck somewhere. If there is a short, most likely it's the result of a bent or displaced contact in the slot.

May be the slot is dirty, you can clean it and try again.

SNES "linker" exist by the way and you can patch the roms with older utilities.
