View Full Version : I'm torn between these two monitors

Which of these is better?

Is a 2ms response time Samsung worth the price, or should I save my money and get the Acer?

With the Samsung am I paying more for the Brand name or just the quicker response time, or a little of both?

Will I be able to see a difference in a 5ms or 2ms response time, or is it one of those things that the human eye cant differentiate? I have a 5ms monitor at the moment, and I have heard that higher response times means that games will look better, color-wise because of that, during high movement. My current monitor is also 16.2 million colors, but both of these monitors are 16.7 million, according to the specs.

Which one would be better if I wanted a mini HDTV for watching movies and playing games on?

I can afford the Acer right now, but I'll have to wait a little bit to save up just a little extra for the Samsung.

I would personally probably go with the Samsung. It might be a little bit more expensive but it looks and sounds like a better monitor overall. i've got a 22 inch Samsung monitor i got last summer and i've been very pleased with it. everything looks amazing, for sure.

The Acer. If your going to use 360 on it your going to have to wait for the update to actually use that resolution though, and hopefully your video card can handle that res. Personally I'd go for a 200$ and less moniter but that's me. My moniter was 180$ and it's awesome.

I would spend the extra change and get the Samsung... not because it's brand name but quite simply because they have some of the best looking (display) monitors on the market that I've seen.

I'd rather have a sharper, cripser, brighter image for years to come instead of $50 in the pocket... but I'm picky like that. Just for fun you could check out the monitors 3btech has to offer... recertified but good stuff:

Well, I've had a lots of troubles with Samsung stuff (let's see: 4 CD-ROM drives, 2 burners and a home CD player, all dead after only a year of use, some even less) so even when they seem to have improved their products quality I'd go with the Acer. I don't know, I don't trust Samsung enough after all of that. Oh, and by the way, my new Samsung DVD burner (came with my mew computer) is already starting to have reading troubles...

Samsung can be a bit hit and miss, they make fantastic products but there QC can be a bit suspect. I've had to use 6 Samsung monitor, one decided to go bang and catch fire. :D

How much is a true 16:9 moniter? Maybe go for that if you want the full monty.

I've had a Samsung monitor (a 152v) for 5 years now - beautiful monitor and I'd definitely buy another one. They really know how to build a monitor - albeit the odd faulty one. (their other stuff, however, is debatable). Ignore the reviews on newegg - people who have bad experiences tend to be the most vocal.

Acer is a terrible, terrible brand - avoid all their stuff like the plague (I know from both experience and the experience of knowing guys who did tech support for their stuff). They wouldn't know how to build a monitor, so they simply rebadge cheap ones.

Oops, I forgot who Acer was. Yeah, fuck them. My friend got a moniter from them and after a year it has a big white streak going down the middle.

Personally I'd go with a monitor not made in Korea or China/Taiwan.

I have a Samsung 225mw (monitor and hdtv in one), and have never regretted buying it, compared to my sons 19" Acer monitor, the samsung blows it away, fantastic colour depth, crystal clear image, as well as supporting 1080p resolution, plus more inputs than you can shake a stick at

Do you think ordering a monitor through Newegg is safe?

I've read their dead pixel policy and it makes me feel uneasy. A monitor, according to them, needs at least EIGHT dead pixels before they consider it "defective".

Thats a load of bullshit right there.

If I can, I might want to try buying it in a store, and ask to test it there just to see.

Pffft, everyone knows somebody who knows somebody who might have talked to somebody who worked in tech support for a large electronics company before. Seriously, Acer isn't that bad. I've used several Acer products over the years, and none of them have failed me yet. In fact, I'm writing this post on a five year old Acer laptop. The thing is tough as nails, it's been through quite a lot and still runs like a champ.

Are you off your rocker? You are shitting in the wind by comparing a $500 22" monitor to a (probably) $180 19" monitor. There is no comparison, no matter what brands they are.

I still love my 19" wide Sceptre. It was 180$ too. I just can't spend that much on a moniter.

I bet dark areas in movies and games looks really shitty, too. I'm speaking from experience, because I have nearly the same thing you do. And its got a big ol' dead pixel to the right of the middle. And its Red.

I'm still unsure about ordering from Newegg or not, thats a lot like playing roulette for me. If I cant find it at a store this Saturday, I'll order it, but I'll be nervous as hell.

Just get a Mitsubishi Diamodcrysta monitor. Sure they cost a bit more but the image speaks for it's self

1920x1080 and 1280x720 (1080p and 720p) are HD resolutions, so they fit the 16:9 aspect ratio.

Than you got quite a deal, because the retail price on that Samsung is around $500.
