Hi,
I've been playing around a bit with propler arena online part and was wondering if anyone else tried to hack into this?
Maybe we could share some info and why not emulate a SNAP server which will let us play propler arena online :D
For the moment i managed get some usefull info about the server and the connection process. I couldn't go really far due to lack of time. I got stick where propler ask the server for a gameID after checking the VMU for an existing one.
Anyway maybe someone will have some informations about it. Feel free to share informations ;)
I thought that the online part wasn't done.

It was done, the game was complete but never released.
Anyway it is impossible to know without trying to get it work

The game uses the same server model as Outtrigger. At least that is what people posted on various places after the game got 'leaked'. So its probally a good start to look for a Outtrigger gameID.

Wombat is correct. If you view the 1stread.bin file, you can find references to Outtrigger code they used directly.
Frozon, did the information you have come from what you've learned by logging packets / viewing game files, or from a reliable third party?

It come from sniffing around packets.
I manage to see that the game is trying to conect to some auth am2 server.
So i setuped a DNS on this domain name. I got propler connected on my fake server.
After connecting to the server propler ask for a gameID. If it can not detect one on the VMU, it ask the server for a new one but i didn't pass this state due tu lack of time hacking it

Sorry wombat, i did not correctly read your message about the gameID ;)
I'll give it a try this week but i think it won't be easy to find one

After seeing a list of online game of dreamcast, i think it would be possible to get some info with NBA, NFL, outtrigger, WSB, NCAA, alien front or ooga booga which was host by SNAP server.
So if some one has played those game online before and have some backup of the game save please let me know

I have played Alien Front Online, online :). So my save is probally still in-tact. However the save is copy protected. So I need an application to dump it from the memcard.
Also try onlineconsoles. there are some folks that you might want to talk to.

Thx wombat for your intrest so far, if you manage to dump it from the VMU let me know ;)
I'll give it a try on onlineconsoles, but I have already looked the forum and did not found any intresting topic. There isn't any reverse/hack/dev topic about it.
Maybe I should ask the guy who manage to get a PSO private server running for dreamcast.
I'm going to reproduce what I have done so far with propler and post the result and some infos on how to do it here if you are intrested

Wombat, google for "VMU Tool speud" And also you need a serial cable.
You just burn the program to a cdr, and plug the serial cable to the computer and it will dump any save, even copy protected ones.

or try one of those tools: http://bswirl.kitsunet.org/outil/dc/
and upload it to blueswirl.

Is there also a BBA version? I don't have a serial cable.

you can use the BBA for the dream exlporer to upload/download files wombat ;)
By the way now mentioning the SNAP servers I'd like someone with a dial up account since I can't make my PC-DC server to log up dial up connections stuff, planet ring uses thtakind of server as well, could anyone take a look into that one?

Ok here are some news so far (not really much...)
For propeller arena, it try to connect to am2auth.sega-am2.co.jp on port 20200, once it is connected, the game ask for a game ID since no one has played this game online before the game ask the server to create/send one by sending a 105bit long string (don't know what this string meen for the moment). After beeing stuck on this part, i decided to test bomberman online.
After setting up the BBA I try to connect the game to a server. But here is the problem, the only packet send on the network by the game are ARP packet and nothing else... wired
I gave a try to outtrigger too, but i can't access to the BBA ISP setting in the option menu (don't know why if someone has some tips about it)
I did not found something relevent, but i thought i should let you know

If only people would have taken logs from everything....
Anyone has a clue about who was responsible about those sega snap servers?
Maybe we could buy the software or something

the SEGA Snap server-software has been sold to Nokia. So you can forget about getting any technical documentation. :(

You can, SEGA did sell the SNAP server to NOKIA, but nokia is using it as SNAP mobile, you can download a server emulator, some demo and docs form the official nokia's forum

I'm sorry my bad, but hopefully the server emulator is usefull for ressurecting some of the Dreamcast servers!
Propeller Arena, BBA online would be great!

also, innomedia still hosts some dreamcast servers...
dcserver1.innomedia.com for example....

which games are running over it? IIRC propeller arena would have been playable online actually since the outtrigger server was already "ready" for propeller arena too, but it's a shame it got leaked too late..

actually we would have to check, as far as I know dreamcall still works through that server, planet ring might too, but it would have to be accessed through a DNS server or something since the "shipgate" or proxy is down

as i recall dreamcall is already completely offline, as is planet ring.
the funny story about planet ring is that it was offline first in 2002 and then sometime during 2002 online again. wow that's 6 years ago already..i've grown old :(

er no, dreamcall is still working, tested it not so long ago.
Using that innomedia server, dcserver1.innomedia.com

Sadly, the dreamcall does not work anymore:
http://innosphere.net/
Direct quote:
"We regret to inform you, we will be discontinuing the InnoSphere service, as well as Device-to-Device calling service with effect from 31st October 2010."
Too bad it worked until recently, and I checked the servers that were still online for dc dreamcall and they're gone.
dcserver1.innomedia.com
dcserver.innomedia.com
dcproxy.innomedia.com
Those worked a few months ago...
But not anymore... any news on anything regarding propeller or... ?
